knitting Ravelry is bOrING

I absolutely HATE😔 how scrollingšŸ“œ on Ravelry all the topšŸ” popular patterns are all boring shades of gray and beige!! No frills sweateršŸ‘•? Grey. Ranunculus? Grey. Step by step sweateršŸ‘š? Beige AND grey. The weekender? Also grey! The entire personality of petiteknit? ALL BEIGE AND GREY!!!😠😔😾

WHWRE IS ALL THE COLOURšŸŽØ? WHy do all these knitters hate colours🌈?? Where is all the funšŸ’ƒ? DO THEY HATE HAVEING FUN AND EXPRESSING YOURSELF??šŸ«µšŸ˜–

I don't want to see all this depressing lack of colour on my RavelryšŸ“µ feed. I don't want to knit 20 sweaters that are all 20 different shades of absolute garbagešŸš®šŸ¦.

AND DONTāœ‹šŸš« TELL ME I CAN JUST KNIT THEM IN WHATEVER COLOUR I WANT. I will NOT be doing thatšŸ™…ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ‘ŽšŸ™‚ā€ā†”ļøšŸš«šŸš«

I only knit patterns in the ORIGINAL COLOURWAY as the creator intended and ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER WAY I REFUSE to even LISTEN TO THST OPTION šŸ«øšŸ™‰šŸ™‰

Hate to break it to you but kniters are emo snobs

In general, people who knit are super antagonist to anyone who tries to engage with them. I saw people complain about being asked what they’re working on because they ā€œdon’t follow patterns and it’s all free form.ā€ Why are you acting all brooding and tortured over knitting lmfao. Do you think you're Heathcliff stomping across the moor in an emo snit? You're all so rude and exhausting. Go p9tbl and stop being elitist cows looking down on my boob-butt bees. And take this premium acrylic and shove it into your center pull.

Didn’t anyone teach you not to look a gift horse in the mouth??? All these whiny young crafters read into everything WAY too much, you’re TOO SENSITIVE!!! Especially the snobby, holier-than-thou kn*tters. We should all, as a community, just learn to take every comment at face value. You’re trying to tell me there’s a wrong way to give someone a compliment?? Even a backhanded compliment is still a compliment! Some people weren’t negged enough in their developmental years, and it shows. They could have said ā€œwow I can’t believe you spent so long doing something as lame as knitting/crocheting/sewing that there’s now a tangible object in front of meā€, or ā€œoh hey your hobby that I look down on and don’t take seriously might actually have some value now that it benefits meā€. The sheer audacity of expecting someone to THINK before SPEAKING is unbelievable.

So you guys make projects that are too ugly, I don’t like them please stop. This is very serious. You’re ruining the craft.

EDIT 1: I don’t even own internet can you stop harassing me about social media

EDIT 2: I’m an artist so I’m better than you

EDIT 3: I’m allowed to complain teehee ;)

shitposting im so fixated on everyone else's crotcheat projects i can no longer enjoy my own! pity me.

i only started crocheating next week and i can't tell you how disgusting this community has become since i started.

i started *before* chrocheting was trendy. I can't even enjoy my own crotch eating anymore because I am so obsessed with everyone else's hideous work.

why doesn't anyone do anything original anymore?! i swear if i see another emotional support potato or chenille bee i am going to gougge my own eyes out with my prym hook (I bought it first)

where is the creativity? the originality?

everyone is crotcheating the exact same way and I am so tired of it!! someone please put a little effort into it for once so i can finally feel satisfied.

In The Loop In The Loop This Week

This subreddit is for fiber artists and crafters of all types! Because we don't all see the same (shitty) posts on our feeds, it may be handy to have a place to revel in all that our fellow fiber lovers share for us to enjoy.

Feel free to post anonymized screenshots of anything you're referencing here if you'd like. FACJ is back to being an all-ages subreddit, so you can post images (and gifs) in the comments here directly.

This is a heavily moderated thread, and anything that isn't scrubbed of identifying information (usernames, faces, etc.) will be removed. Block out, crop out, cross out or sticker out identifying information on EVERY screenshot before posting here.

However, unjerk/uj/genuine/serious comments and discussions are allowed -- even encouraged! -- on In The Loop posts. Irony and sarcasm are fine here too, so consider using tone tags to make sure your comment comes across the way you want (or don't! I really don't care!).

There are a few other rules for In The Loop posts:

  • Please don't use this thread to demand sources for jerk posts. If people want to post sources, they will. There are plenty of good reasons for someone not to share a source, including "don't wanna." Source/ITL demands and discussions of where to find sources will be removed here and on jerk posts.
  • Links to other Reddit posts are NOT ALLOWED here. This includes no-follow links. (FACJ links are fine.)
  • Links to content off Reddit may be removed at the mods' discretion.
  • We are NOT in the business of brigading, and anyone who engages in brigading will be banned from this subreddit.

A new thread will go up every Sunday!

show me a tidy back & i'll show you an anti-feminist capitalist pig

classism and sexism used to - and still does - say, "a woman is only as good as the back of her stitching is tidy."

your grandmother muttered it under her breath as she eyed unworthy donations to the church bazaar. she was a victim of misogyny who became its greatest collaborator.

your female boss who raised the ladder up behind her and waves to you through the glass ceiling that has become her glass floor - she whispers this as she watches you inefficiently windex the exterior of her crystalline tower. she ate from the hand of the men in charge, and tenderly licks it still.

your patriarchal overlords want you to tie your worth to a tidy back.

they want to PIN STITCH you down.

they want to keep you from entering a cycle of increasing independence before that LOOP STARTS.

they don't want you TO TRAVEL.

they want you to be a good little girl. to swallow that confetti and say only "thank you sir may i have another."

not today.

today i will be my truest self - perhaps messy, maybe wasteful, even something that could make my fellows recoil in shock. but i will be real, unencumbered by antiquated societal expectations, released from the chains of floss that have so long tied me to an unrealistic ideal.

i am woman. hear me roar as i snap my needle pushing through seven layers of criss-crossing thread, finally breaking through to realize my potential.

knitting Lacking inspiration as a male

I am a man.

Sometimes I, a man, make things, and then I don't like them - I find this demotivating. And as a man, I need motivation to make things.

I like making things for the holidays, because I'm a man who makes things. And soon, I, a man, will be making something for my sisters birthday.

Do you have suggestions for other things that I can make using my man hands? šŸ’Ŗ

knitting Friendly neighborhood female knitter here…I don’t get to share with many people.

My mom taught me the basics of knitting when I was younger, I’m now in my later 30’s, but it was never a ā€œcoolā€ thing to do for a woman (since historically only MEN were allowed to join highly exclusive knitting guilds which means ZERO women knitted domestically or contributed to fibre arts as a whole at any point in history ever). I now travel constantly and ran through enough hobbies (Star Wars Lego sets, smashing my jaw with a hammer, ketamine) to pick it back up and find air travel and hotels immediately easier to deal with while knitting. I made a few little tea towels and dish towels to get back into it, and naturally decided a 40’x60’ large throw blanket with bobbles and cables and colourwork depicting all my memories from early childhood through today (see pic for current progress) was clearly the first big step to take. I just wanted to share my progress with people who APPRECIATE it other than my mother and waifu who also likes sewing crafts.

Sometimes you just need a little release in over the lazy weekend without turning it into a whole production with the chains and the WIPs and the raw-edge applique. Chickenbear provides for those who jerk! Join us here every Saturday for a little drive-by circlejerking about your fellow fiber artists (derogatory).

Yes, this is a blatant rip-off of the Bitesized BEC thread but for making fun of crafter bullshit instead of whining about pattern prices and rehashing the same complaints about whichever petite knit designer is taking heat this week.

Feel free to post anonymized screenshots of anything you want to mock, satirize, freak out about, scream into the void about, or generally make others see since you had to look at it with your own two eyes here if you'd like. FACJ is back to being an all-ages subreddit, so you can post images (and gifs) in the comments here directly.

Comments do NOT need to be circlejerky on this post -- if you need to go full /uj here, we will support and validate you, no matter how absurd or petty you get (I can't promise we won't also make fun of you too though).

Our other rules still apply here, of course:

  • This is a heavily moderated thread, and anything that isn't scrubbed of identifying information (usernames, faces, etc.) will be removed. Block out, crop out, cross out or sticker out identifying information on EVERY screenshot before posting here.

As usual, raise your hand if you were personally victimized by Stephen West's existence.

This is a safe space, ladies. We know you don't hate him because you're a latent homophobe and/or you get off on playing purity politics and/or you have completely rotted your brain with your unending chronic onlineism.

We know your deep loathing that can barely be contained within your mortal coil is truly and genuinely because he makes shawls you think are garish is just so loud and bold and obnoxious SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER!!!!!! That he didn't know better obviously means HE AGREES with those rightwing podcasters who would love to see him and his business partner dead.

Here's the bottom line: Stephen West is taking up space in this field that DOESN'T BELONG TO HIM and HE KNOWS IT and HE DESERVES TO SUFFER FOR IT.

crafting at large What's the next trendy animal?

It is known that every few years the Quirky Girls need a new animal to bear as their sigil. In the early 2010s they bore the banner of the venerable owl. In the late 2010s foxes were having a moment. In the early 2020s they were crocheting frogs. Now the reign of the fish sweater has continued for at least two or three years, which means salmon and cod motifs must be minutes away from becoming uncool. So I ask you, which animal will take their place in the late 2020s to allow Quirky Crafty Girls to display their totally out-there uniqueness to the world?

Fuck this. Fuck you. Fuck it. I spent so much money on this craft and I can’t do it. It’s horrible. I don’t care about learning how to use the equipment and what the different methods are.

I can’t do it. But also give me karma because that’s why I’m here posting about it to begin with.

Lack of gift etiquette – should I contact a lawyer?

Hi, posting here because I've read that you all are experts in crotcheating and would love to get some feedback on my "friend's" behavior. A few months ago, my "friend" crotched an elaborate blanket for me and my partner's 10 year wedding anniversary. We thought it was a lovely and thoughtful gift at the time, and she told us she designed it herself specifically for us. It has all these unique motifs representing our marriage, like flowers and hearts.

But the other day she reached out to us saying she wanted to sell the design and asked us for our input on a name. We were shocked. All of our friends know that we're averse to basic, commonplace gifts. From what I gather, anyone would then be able to crochĆ©t our special wedding anniversary blanket, making our unique present the equivalent of a Wal-Mart mass produced product. Even worse, I'm pretty sure making profit off a gifted item is a violation of copyright, which we must hold since we are the owners of the blanket. We've consulted with ClaudeAI about this and based off our chats we're quite certain this is not just bad etiquette—it's illegal. But what do you guys think? Should we go ahead and call the yarn police?

macrame WHY don't pattern makers want to give me their patterns for actually free and not this fake "free" website with ads????????

It's so unfair that it's just, like, okay -- even expected! -- for designers to bait-and-switch their fellow handcrafters by saying their patterns are free and then sending them to a website chock full of ads.

It's not a FREE pattern if I have to:

  • See ads
  • Scroll past ads
  • Click to close ads
  • Read anything that isn't a pattern before getting to the pattern

And don't you dare suggest that I use:

  • Ad blocker extensions or browsers
  • Reading mode
  • My computer's copy/paste function in conjunction with a text/notepad app
  • Print to PDF/screenshots

The only truly free pattern is the one where I get just the clean, well-formatted pattern PDF with no ads for $0 and no email signups and no prompts to buy the paid PDF and no effort of any kind on my part.

I think creators deserve to be paid for their work or whatever, but I wish they remembered that we don’t have to be either the consumer or the product -- there is a third way that capitalism wants us to forget where people just genuinely share things with me for free, to everyone’s benefit.

spent the morning valiantly fighting the good fight against the crotchetaganda. does anybody know any good support groups for detoxing from crocheters insisting they are special and can singlehandledly absolve their craft of its sins against fiber art? I saw a hexagon cardigan on the bus this morning and im still trying to stop shaking…

anyway im here in my step by step sweater thanking god for knitting for olive heavy merino. And to the crocheters out there: Eat my drape.

- making more than one item per season is criminal and abnormal. ONE COASTER PER PERSON PER YEAR IS GOD'S PLAN

- crotcheting is fugly and you are fugly

- your soul is full of factory knots

- your vast tracts of yarn mean you hate the planet and every living thing on it, especially baby capybaras

- you suck

- you're doing it ALL WRONG

- you're so very lucky I'm sharing my unfiltered unhinged opinions with you frucking granny-square-munchers

Edit: why are you all such mean bitches? I'm just jumping on the YewTew TrickerTrocker trends and giving you my unpopular opinions even though I have like 3 followers and two of them are my mom so you DNGAF what I think
