Ask the Community Criminal misdemeanor impact on fintech job?

I will most likely be convicted of a reckless driving charge for speeding with possibility of small jail time and I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this while working for a big company. My lawyer mentioned not to bring it up but I’m curious what’ll happen if background checks are done in the background constantly and eventually HR will see that I have a criminal misdemeanor. While my position at the company doesn’t require driving, it is at will employment so I’m scared as they have grounds to terminate me for this.

1.) any insight into the background check process as current employees for a fintech company? I hear they’ll happen even for promotions and for financial company’s background checks I can imagine happen routinely
2.) should I disclose if convicted with a misdemeanor or just shut my mouth. I couldn’t find anything in my employment contract regarding disclosure. I’m also not working with the government / have a security clearance.

I’ll call my company’s ethics line tomorrow and ask some of questions as hypotheticals but in the meantime, I would appreciate any insight here from those who have faced a similar experience

And yes, I was ignorant and I deserve this punishment / lesson learned.

Discussion Boss wants me to implement KYC/AML without the right resources

For context, I have about 4.5 YOE as an swe and work at a finance B2B company, and my boss wants me to implement KYC and AML functionality that we can offer to our clients(some of which who are outside the US).

Based on my limited research, it involves requirements like collecting the necessary documents, sanctions list screening, doing proper background checks, cross-referencing corporate registries to verify ownership, etc.

We don’t have anyone at the company who specializes in compliance. The current plan is to have our employees in India handle all the KYC/AML work once all the engineering work is done. Additionally, the task of coming up with requirements falls to me(which is weird since my boss told me to count on him as the “compliance expert”).

I don’t want this to blow up in my face and have it result in legal trouble. I have collected email documentation of me bringing up my concerns, but I don’t know if that’s enough.

How would y’all proceed if you were in my shoes?

Discussion Looking for a reliable API for cross-border payments

I’m working on a setup that needs to handle international payments and I’m comparing a few providers that offer payment APIs.

The main things I’m looking at are integration, fees, settlement time and how easy it is to manage payments at scale.

For those who have actually integrated one, which providers have worked well for you? Anything I should watch out for before choosing?

Ask the Community How often do you actually re-check a fintech provider after onboarding?

A lot of vendor due diligence seems to happen at the beginning.

You check the licences, the banking partner, data handling, and the contracts. You might also speak to a few customers before approving the provider and moving on.

But six or twelve months later, the product may appear the same while something underlying has changed.

Perhaps they have changed their banking partner. Or maybe part of the service has been transferred to another entity or subcontractor. Perhaps the licence or agreement you originally relied on no longer covers the same thing.

How do teams catch this in practice?

Scheduled re-checks? Vendor notifications? Registry monitoring? Or contract renewals? Or does most of it only get revisited when something goes wrong?

Here, I’m less interested in uptime/security monitoring and more interested in whether the reasons you trusted the provider during onboarding are still valid.

Ask the Community global contractor payout platform comparison 2026…. what do people miss when comparing them?

been looking through different contractor payout platforms and most comparisons seem to focus on the same stuff, countries supported, fees, currencies and integrations
but one thing i barely see mentioned is how easy it is to repeat the same contractor batch month after mnth
had a situation where a bunch of contractor details had to be entered again manually and it made me realise how much that part matters once the team gets bigger
i”ve been looking at a few options since, Easystaff, Solar staff and Salaryhub have all come up while comparing different cross border payout setups, but its hard to tell from feature pages how smooth the recurring workflow is
for anyone managing recurring contractor payments, how much carries over from the previous cycle on the platform u use?
do u mostly duplicate the last batch and make changes or are u still rebuilding parts of it each month?

Discussion Updated my European payment alternatives list

Updated the European payment alternatives list from 150 to 200+ after comment suggestions, broad-European, stricter ownership rules, 46 categories. Biggest growth was payments/fintech, Unlimit made it for local payment methods under one stack instead of stitching regional processors. Alphabetical by category, if I missed something, drop it for v3.

Ask the Community Eton Solutions Implementation Manager Role

Hi All - I have an offer from Eton Solutions, HQ'd in the Raleigh-Durham area for an implementation manager role. Curious as to what the actual day-to-day looks like there and how the ERP system is viewed by vendors and users. Any help is much appreciated!

Discussion Voice AI during a service outage

I wonder if one of the hardest times to use voice AI is also when you need it most. Say online banking goes down and thousands of people start calling within an hour. The information is changing quickly, customers are already annoyed and some people just want confirmation that their account is safe while others have completely unrelated issues.

That looks very different from normal contact center traffic. Has anyone designed AI call handling specifically for outages or sudden volume spikes?

Ask the Community Anyone here using personal phones for customer calls?

Was talking about this with someone and it got me curious.

For smaller fintech teams, is it normal for people to call/text customers from their own phones? Or is that something compliance usually shuts down pretty quickly?

I can see how it works when the team is small, but once you have more customers and employees it sounds like it could get messy.

Would using a separate business line through iPlum or RingCentral be a better way to handle this, or do most fintech companies prefer completely separate work phones?

How does your company handle it?

Ask the Community Does anyone use a crypto processor with a real API for bulk payouts?

Building out a payroll/payout flow for a marketplace and most of the crypto payment tools I find online are checkout-first (accept payments on a store), not built for sending money out to hundreds of people. Anyone dealt with this on the API side?

Discussion Should fintech teams benchmark financial AI on traceability before raw answer accuracy?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Ling-3.0-flash-Fin has launched as a finance-focused 124B-total, 5.1B-active MoE, and the most relevant part for fintech may be how the demos define success.

In the financial-search example, the model used 23 tool calls to reconstruct four disclosures, prioritized primary sources, reconciled definitions and dates, and calculated interval changes with a traceable evidence chain. A second research example used 55 tool calls across filings and earnings materials while preserving the boundary between historical facts and forecasts.

That suggests a practical evaluation order for operational use:

Can every material statement be traced to a source?

Are definitions and reporting periods consistent?

Are calculations independently reproducible?

Can a reviewer see and change assumptions?

Does the workflow stop before an investment conclusion is issued?

The official thread says the OpenRouter API is free for one month, which is enough for a bounded pilot. The model's own launch also states that expert review remains essential.

Would traceability be a harder deployment gate than raw benchmark accuracy for your team?

Discussion For P2P/payment gateway is there any compliance wall?

For anyone building this stuff at the moment, what's the compliance wall you're hitting? Are partners and licence applications asking for PCI DSS or SOC 2 now? Or something else?

Trying to plan the budget and compliance seems absolutely nontrivial.

Discussion 9 years in crypto before I touched a USP

I came to the crypto sphere in 2017, attracted by the promise of decentralization; the ICO bubble burst, and most of the promises turned out to be empty. Meanwhile, the boring business of stablecoins is booming — I saw it on Circle, Messari, Coinbase, Crossmint and Stable.com — conversion from Tether to USD Coin and back with almost zero fees is now one of the main activities in the crypto space. The same goes for the USP — the idea failed, but the infrastructure won, and those who use it know why and are proud of it.

Discussion For picking a fintech for stablecoin payments, what did diligence actually check?

Ran diligence on three stablecoin payment fintechs last quarter for our AP flows. All three cleared the basic filters, money transmitter licenses in our target states, published custody structure, one-pager on their bank partner.

Where they separated was on the questions the sales team didn't lead with. Custody structure at settlement, whether client funds sit in a proper FBO account or commingled with operating funds. Reserve attestation cadence for the stablecoin they route through. What happens if the issuer freezes an address mid-payment? Termination liabilities in the MSA. Reference calls with two customers running similar volumes.

Two of the three had material gaps on at least one of those. The one that didn't was not the cheapest headline provider.

For teams that ran a similar process, what was the actually decisive item beyond the pitch?

Discussion How can banks integrate stablecoin payments without losing the reserve and audit story their regulator expects?

Our bank has been getting corporate customer requests for stablecoin-denominated payments for about a year. We looked at three integration paths and each one hit a different wall with our regulator.

The custody path (bank holds USDC) triggered new capital requirements because our regulator does not have a settled framework for how stablecoin holdings roll into our capital adequacy calculation.

The agent path (bank routes to a licensed stablecoin provider) got us past the capital question but our compliance team was uncomfortable with the visibility we would have into the underlying flow.

We are now looking at a middle model where we settle in fiat with a licensed counterparty who does the stablecoin leg on their end.

Anyone at a bank actually shipped this yet? How can banks integrate stablecoin payments without the reserve story blowing up?

Discussion The control plane for financial AI should track evidence, assumptions and files not just prompts

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Recent discussions about securing financial assistants often focus on access control and data leakage. Those are necessary, but a research agent also needs an audit trail for how a number became a conclusion.

One Ling-3.0-flash-Fin demo is a useful example. The release says the model made 55 tool calls across a 10-K, earnings release and 8-K, detected that a Storage segment had moved to discontinued operations, reconstructed historical continuing-operations earnings along GAAP, adjusted and “other” paths, and arrived at $17.8 million. Crucially, the demo says that figure should not be used directly as a forecast baseline.
Whether or not the model reproduces this reliably, the workflow exposes the controls a fintech system needs:

- immutable source snapshots with publication timestamps;

- metric definitions and reclassification history;

- a distinction between disclosed facts, transformations and assumptions;

- calculation lineage down to the file or cell;

- explicit blocks on turning reconstructed history into forecasts;

- reviewer approval before valuation or investment conclusions leave the system.

This is based on release material, not hands-on testing, and it is not an investment claim. The interesting product question is whether financial AI platforms will make this provenance first-class, or leave it buried inside an agent transcript.

Ask the Community Looking for a Finance Co-founder / Partner

I’m a software developer with a strong interest in finance, investing, and portfolio management.
I have an idea for a simple SaaS product that aims to make investing easier.

Every day, I see people asking:
“I have ₹X to invest where should I put it?”

I want to build something that helps answer this through a simple, algorithm-driven approach. No unnecessary AI hype just something practical and useful.

I can handle all the technical aspects (product, development, infrastructure) until we scale.

I’m looking for someone with experience in finance, portfolio management, or investment advisory who can help validate the approach and handle the finance side with me.

If this interests you, DM me. Happy to share more details.

Would love to hear your thoughts. 🙏

Ask the Community Developing internal portfolio tooling for a solo RIA. Seeking advice?

I'm a freelance developer. For the past several months I've been building an internal portfolio management system for a solo RIA: it ingests custodian statement files, normalizes the holdings, handles FX conversion, and gives my client one consolidated view across multiple custodians. No trading, no client-facing output, no performance calculations.

This is a one-off build for my client, not something I'm turning into a product. It's substantially built and we're getting it ready to put in front of the firm's compliance consultant.

My question is for anyone who's been here. What caught you off guard? I'm interested in both sides of it: technical things that turned out to be much harder or much more consequential than you expected, and non-technical things that came out of the compliance or operational side and that you hadn't planned for.

Happy to hear from people on the compliance side too, if any of you have reviewed something like this from the other direction.

Discussion pdf2md tool : no api | no cloud | all local

Built a small community tool this afternoon to solve a problem I kept running into: PDF2MD, a free, open-source desktop app that converts PDFs to clean Markdown.

If you've ever pasted a PDF into an AI assistant, you've paid for it using tokens.PDFs are full of formatting that eats up tokens without adding any real meaning.

Every token saved today is a token you get to spend later.

About the tool.
- Runs entirely on your machine - no cloud calls, no API keys, nothing uploaded, ever.
- Build once, use forever - it's a standalone desktop app, not a hosted service you depend on.
- Optional on-device OCR for scanned PDFs that have no text layer(hard part,PDF with images are tough to convert without losing the information).
- Free and open source (MIT)

Fully vibe-coded, and no harm admitting it: Kilo did the initial build, then Claude Code took it the rest of the way.

It's a side project, built and shipped in an afternoon and not a polished product, just something genuinely useful I wanted to build for myself.

If you try it and hit a bug, please open an issue. If you want to improve something, fork it and send a PR.

P.S : Always do your own security scans before installing anything.

Ask the Community how are you catching fake bank statements where all the details are real?

Intern at a lending company here. We get a lot of bank statements for underwriting, and a chunk of them turn out to be fabricated, but built around real stolen details. Usually they have real names, real account numbers, real addresses... So when we cross-reference the fields, nothing flags.

Our head of risk already walked me through why the data matching means little here. What I'm trying to get a feel for is what teams actually do about this stuff in practice. Are you checking the file structure, the metadata, something else? Or is it still mostly a manual reviewer catching them?

Curious what's holding up for people vs what just sounds good on paper...

Discussion Fintech Banking for business that offer CBD

Hey guys! I run a pretty large Nutra business and we have been working with an "old School" Bank for a while now. Due to how convoluted our business is and the need for multiple accounts and easy transfers we have been very interested in Fintech banks like RHO, Brex, and so forth.

The issue we are running into is that our business has CBD in a few of our over the counter products. Despite those products being roughly 10% of our total sales most of those options have said no.

anyone know any fintech solutions or modern banks that would allow this?

Thanks
