SonicDNA: Find Similar Samples by Sound - Free App
SonicDNA is a free, open-source and cross-platform sample search app that finds similar audio files by analyzing how they sound—not just their filenames. In this demo, I show how you can load a kick drum, scan your local sample library, and quickly find matching sounds based on tone, attack, decay, and overall character.
r/flstudio • u/aska1743 • 10h ago
Why?
ım using this button for tempo but the sample still doesnt match the bpm. For example the kick and the sample dont hit at the same time

question
so… imagine u open piano roll and just make a mel out of notes that sound good together. what key would that be in? like most of my mel’s i use snap to scale and scale highlighting to chose like a minor. but if i didn’t do that what exactly would the key be in by just placing notes by ear? if this sounds dumb i’ll ask chat gpt

Why do some audio samples lose quality when put into the DAW?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
For example I have this folder of sound assets from a video game. Pay attention to the high end on the EQ between them and how much quality is lost on the file that's in the playlist. This happens to most of the sounds in this folder, which are all wav files of varying bitrate (256kbps, 352, 513, etc). I also tested it in audacity and can also hear the audio quality get worse when dragged into there. Also before anyone asks this is an entirely empty project file and the EQ is just there to visualize the quality difference
I don't know why these daws can't play these sound files at the quality I can hear in the browser but it's been driving me crazy since this did not used to happen when I used to use FL studio 20. If anyone knows anything I can try to fix this let me know thx

For those looking for a chord generating midi/synth instrument for composing and live performance
I've been a professional working bassist for 15 years. I have bachelor of music yet still feel limited composing. I suck at fluent chord changes on a keyboard other than basic first inversion block chords. Half a life time of instinct in one instrument and none of its technique transfers, so there's this gap between what I can hear and think up, and what my hands can actually do on keys fluently.
What I wanted was simple to describe...play chords, without fighting a lack of technical technique in one particular instrument. Not just diatonic triads, whatever I was hearing.
I picked up an MPC Live 3, which is a brilliant tool, but the built in chord selection is thin. But I thought what I wanted surely already exists.
Then I found the 'Orchid', and it was alllmost exactly what I wanted (if you haven't seen it and are resonating with thus post, check it out, the way it handles chords is very clever). Buut it's around $900 AUD, and I wasn't ready to commit that before knowing whether this way of playing would stick, plus I have a horrible habit of buying stuff, using it for a month then never again. The only other things I could find were browser based chord tools, which are fine on a pc but felt very average on my phone/tablet and no one wants to play music with a mouse.
Nothing I found seemed to sit in the middle.. So being apparently incapable of leaving things alone, I spent months refining a phone/tablet app:
The layout I ended up with: pick a key and mode, and you get a grid where every row is a scale degree and every column is a chord type, from triads out through extensions, sus and add chords, slash voicings, and a bank of secondary dominants, tritone subs and modal interchange for when you want to leave the key.
There's a second mode (that I'll admit takes inspiration from how the Orchid approaches playing): hold a chord quality and tap the root. It made sense to me as someone having a good grasp on theory, and I wanted that feel on a device I always carry around.
Then there's a fader on the side that walks the held chord through its inversions one inversion at a time, which is my favourite feature, because voice leading is exactly the thing I could never do with my slow hands.
It has a small synth voice built in, so it makes sound on its own with nothing attached if you're not around a synth or DAW, and it sends MIDI over USB when you want it driving hardware or a DAW. It also supports velocity changes (and aftertouch if your connected synth supports it)
It's on Android now ("ChordGrid: MIDI Instrument" on the Play Store) and iPhone version is in testing and should be up in the next few days.
The core diatonic chords are free so you can see if it feels right for you and the extended palette is a small one off purchase.
If you've got a workflow for this already, or there's a tool I somehow missed, or you try it and something feels unintuitive, please let me know and I'll consider adding it in if it feels like it fits. I want this to be the perfect tool for the people that feel the same way I did.
Thanks everyone, appreciate the time reading.

Is It Normal to Feel Overwhelmed and A Little Discouraged?
I made a post about an hour ago and I stumbled upon a bunch of different things( playlists of tutorials, VST trackers for some of my favorite creators, and a bunch of songs on the default FL subreddit) that made me realize I’m barely even halfway there to being a very great music producer. I’m pretty young for being into this sort of stuff so that kind of adds some wood to the fire. I started with GarageBand when I was like 8,9, or 10. I barely know FL Studio that well since for some reason, I can’t handle the 53 video tutorial playlists on FL without distracting myself with something else. Most of my songs have bad mixing because I haven’t been formally taught how to mix or master(I won’t link any of my songs since I think the subreddit doesn’t like that). I really want to know how to sample stuff but I don’t understand how. I’m just overall upset if you already couldn’t tell. It seems to come naturally to so many people everywhere and on all the FL Studio subreddits Is this a normal feeling to have as a beginner or have I just not done the right thing while introducing myself to FL?

Tips on Transferring Exported FL Audio to Mobile Device?
drive.google.comHi, I’ve been creating with FL for half a year now. I’m no expert by any means, I came from 6 years of garageband mobile.
I like to export my songs and bring it to my mobile device so I can show my friends but recently, it sounds like there’s a delay over the whole song or at least some percussion and powerful sounds. Some of the higher pitched noises are way louder than what it sounded like using ASIO on my laptop. I thought that maybe wearing headphones would fix it since I know mobile audio drivers are so close together that panning can sometimes bleed together. I don’t mix with headphones since I hear that’s bad and not reccomended. So the bass was too loud and whenever the main bass cuts out, it feels like removing the stuffing of a doll. I might have done something wrong with the mixing and my laptop’s speakers are on the bottom meaning that it could’ve possibly been muffled by the table I was working on so I couldn’t hear some of the weird echoes. I’m new to fl of course and the art of mixing so I could’ve gotten something wrong there. I’m not great with mastering. I was actually going to make a post asking for tips on those two things. I’ll even link the song here and maybe you can see the problem(I hope that’s allowed on this subreddit). I’m a beginner for FL so don’t expect it to be perfect please.

The amount of effects on the Trumpet Alone 💀
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Yup. This are the many DW Samplers, Soundfonts, and effects I used just for ONE CHANNEL and I put 2 REVERB 2'S One for Regular Use (Large Hall set to 50% Mix) and One to sound at the Shofar part at 20 Seconds in (Cathedral with Decay at 6 Seconds and 80% Mix)
Music/Scene in question: The Passion of the Christ at 35:36-38:04
DW Sampler: Varazdin Orchestral
Soundfonts: SGM (for Trumpet) and undertale (for Trumpet Vibrato)
Link to Soundfonts:
SGM: https://musical-artifacts.com/artifacts/855 (look for "Trumpet")
undertale: https://musical-artifacts.com/artifacts/914 (look for "Justice Trumpet")
Note: This Track is still WIP and if you want the .flp File(s) you have to wait (and stitch them together)
Edit: also in SGM, look for "Muted Trumpet"

Mixer Window Not Scaling Correctly
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I'm not sure how to fix this. Every time I open the browser my mixer window is pushed out of the grid I've made. When I hide the browser, it does not retract along with the other windows. Does anyone know how I can prevent this from happening? I'm trying to have all of my windows organized properly, and I use the browser frequently. It's super annoying to resize the mixer constantly. Thank you so much!!

Is it worth doing as a beginner or should I focus on basics like drum patterns, melodies, and arrangement first?

FL on Mac air 2022
Hey y'all so I've had FL for over four years now on a low budget Asus laptop not the CPU, it always lagged and clicked but recently it's been overwhelming since I worked on three albums with this laptop. I got a MacBook Air 2022 for school and I didn't want to use it for music, strictly for school stuff I was planning to get a gaming laptop for FL but I've been broke so I was thinking of moving to the Mac for my music production and recording, is FL on Mac air any good? I've heard some people say that it's not the same or should I just wait and save up for a gaming laptop like what would be worth it?

Hey! I got a question because somethings going on with using a MIDI on a chromatic scale
K, for context:
My brother and I both made our own chromatic scales and were using it on a FNF MIDI from the Game Banana site, but when using the Players MIDI, the chromatic scale is completely silent?? It’s not even the MIDI itself, another FNF MIDI with a Player and Opponent side has the same issue. Is there a reason the MIDI for the Players side (aka BF’s MIDI) is silent when using the scale? We tried using the one I did, and it’s also silent. What the hell?
