I love those tiny, leafy suture patterns!

The whale jaw is now mostly uncovered and right now it’s about 6 ft long and we’re expecting it to be between 7 and 8 feet. Just the size alone really only leaves Eobalaenoptera to be the species that this jaw belongs to. By the time we get it fully uncovered and jacketed, this thing is going to weigh a ton. Some of the other stuff I found today at the bonebed included tons of vertebrae from the whale skeleton, more vertebrae from what is looking like a dolphin skeleton, fish vertebrae from another skeleton, shark teeth, and an extremely interesting bird bone which is quite rare for this formation.

Can you identify this? My dad found this in loose rock while stabilizing a limestone cliff in the Finger Lakes area in NY state. We often find mollusks and horn coral (rugosa), but this one is larger. A few inches long and about 2 inches wide.

Also, it's in two pieces - how to best stabilize it so it doesn't get further damage?

Found this in a quarry. It's a Silurian Coral around 425 million years old.

I comb the beach and different coves in search of glass, pottery, rocks, and fossils to collect, learn about, and make jewlery with! Last time I went searching, I was lucky enough to come across this beautiful tooth! At first I thought it could possibly be from a cow, but I think its actually a horse mollar! I would love to have an expert evaluate it one day!

Hey there! Jw if anyone could confirm if these are archaic oyster shells or or just plain ol' eatin' oyster shells. Was doing a site survey at a greenfield and found them near the downstream floodplain of Leon Creek in northern San Antonio TX. Loose on the ground in wooded area mixed with some rocks for what appeared to be a natural wash channel.

I have a couple pieces of fossilized coral I have picked up while exploring a local creek, and a big chunk of crinoid soup from a local lake.

All of them have been soaked in dish soap and scrubbed with a tooth brush, and I am sort of stuck on what to do next to make them presentable.

For me personally, I enjoy what they look like in the current state, but I would like to explore options on other ways of displaying them than in their natural state.

I’m not well versed on the terminology of things, but the rock surrounding the coral is quite hard if that matters. The crinoid piece is flaky and I assume some sort of limestone.

Hello! I've collected small sea fossils since young, and have probably thousands stored away. I wanted to incorporate some of the fossils into a mosaic Im doing over my bathtub.

I was looking for guides or past examples, but Im not finding any info. Im worried there might be a technical reason no one really uses fossils in mosaic/tilework (poor adhesion to tile grout? maybe they deteriorate from bathroom cleaners?)

Im curious if you have any advice here from the fossil care perspective. Would the vinegar cleaning be the best way to clean these up prior? If sealed with waterproof sealer, would they likely hold up ok over time in a bathroom?

Super new to the hobby and entirely out of my depth, but I recently purchased this brittle star plate under the assumption it was real.
