Finally got my custom pen & ink box

At loooong last, it arrived!! I ordered this months ago and after a series of delays, it's here!!

Recently i have seen too many people here posting asking how to assemble back their TWSBI Eco because they are unable to do so after disassembling the piston just for regular cleaning...

And after a little of searching why these people are disassembling their Ecos, i found that there are so many bad advice on social media telling and demonstrating how to clean the TWSBI Eco by disassembling the piston-assembly... and some even link to those videos here while commenting on posts about TWSBI Eco minor problems that require cleaning the pen...

And these videos do not mention that this is unnecessary for regular cleaning and only suitable for super deep cleaning or only for troubleshooting the piston, hence this reminder...

PS. if you think water is not enough, you can use soapy water (a drop of dish soap or two per 1 small glass of water) or at most, pen flush (although i dont personally recommend this as some sources say ammonia is not suitable for cleaning acrylic)

It looks like my first pen (a trusty $4 found in a local equivalent of walmart, exact model unknown) is being sent on a vacation for now lol, there are capybaras on it though which makes it worth all the money :D

For some reason my new Sailor PGS <mf> writes a bit inconsistently. In certain directions it writes normally, while in others it writes very dry. I also have to put a bit of pressure on it to make it put down a decent line, it’s not a pen that I can write lightly with.

Is this normal and just how Sailor pens write? Is there something wrong with my pen?

My first pen over usual prices (I have 5 Lamy Safari)

After purchasing a Lamy Al-Star, which I am using with Lamy blue-black ink, it didn't take long for me to convince myself that I needed an all-black pen for black ink.

I picked up a Kaweco Perkeo in all-black (including the nib), since it looked to have a similar grip to the one on my Lamy, while having a practical aesthetic that I find attractive.

Aside from the plastic feel to the pen (duh, it's made of plastic), it feels great in my hand, nice balance, good grip, and a lovely nib (though I only have my Lamy for comparison).

I am very happy with this edition to my new family of pens!

Just saw this pen and fell in love. It is on my wish list and will be the first fountain pen i will purchase over $100. Now just to get the wife to okay. 😁😅🤣

Spoilered for approximate resemblance to blood. I won’t comment on accuracy as I don’t know if that rule is still in place.

Most of the ink was successfully vacuumed back up with the refillable cartridge of my Lamy Safari (coincidentally in scarlet), as in the background music video Jesus is nailed to the cross and Johnny Cash laments his poor choices.

I am adding this gorgeous brown to my ink collection today - Krówka by KWZ. Affectionately and accurately named “little cow” this ink was created to celebrate a milk toffee we used to have in Eastern Europe as kids. I am a big fan of KWZ inks and brown colour (Honey and It Smells Like Coffee are some of my favourites) so this ink will be much loved and used! Pióromaniak shop who are the collaborators and sellers of this ink even included one of the Krówka toffees with it! 😍🤎🐮

I couldn't pass up a good deal, so when I saw the smaller bottles on Taobao go for a quarter of the North American retail price, I had to get them all. Here are my impressions of each:

Hotaru-bi: Squished bug guts smeared on your windshield you oddly find satisfying.
To-ro: The colour of the dark alley lantern right before your kidneys vanish.
Yu-yake: Nuclear flash orange three seconds before the shockwave vaporizes your subdivision.
Fuyu-gaki: Cheeto fingers.
Momiji: Christmas, but nobody showed up to your Holiday party.
Hana-ikada: Sickly-sweet bubble gum.
Yama-budo: The colour of the blouse stains that your wino great aunt wears as a not-so-subtle cry for help.
Murasaki-shikibu: Grandmother poison served in a delightful, decorative glass jar.
Aji-sai: The exact shade of an unread email.
Asa-gao: Blue.
Kon-peki: The sapphire eyes of an unimpressed Russian supermodel glaring straight through your soul.
Ama-iro: Bluer blue.

EDIT: Re-organized in order of image 4 of the carousel and switched the descriptions of Asa-gao and Ama-iro in order of appearance.

In my opinion, this pen is simply stunning. I love the deep blue resin, especially the way the barrel becomes slightly translucent against the light. The integrated nib and the section matching the clip design are pure art, and the overall heft and size in hand feel nice.

This pen feels like the pinnacle of Waterman's modern era, back when they were truly pushing creative and technical boundaries (that inlaid nib is a masterpiece).

The nib is a smooth OM, currently inked with Visconti blue.

Any other Edson owners here? What are your thoughts on how modern Waterman compares to this era?

I'm very excited to share my two new Jinhao pens! The first I'll tell you about is the x169 and how it compares to the 9019 then the newer (I think?) Century 100 in a hollowed out gold finish.

Straight away, the x169 is very much another Montblanc "inspired" pen. It's big, beautiful, and very shiny. We are working with a big, fat Jinhao #8 nib. Out of the box it was smooth with some feedback, but not much at all.

Holding it in the hand, I'm impressed with the weight and balance of it unposted. It feels like the tail end of the pen has metal to help with the weight distribution. For long writing sessions, this should be a very comfortable companion.

Sadly, I do not have a Montblanc to compare with the x169. Frankly, I can't see myself ever buying one unless I scored the deal of the century. For now, I think this pen will happily be my favorite MB knockoff.

Compared to the 9019 (bottom pen in the photo), it is heavier yet thinner. The resin feels different, too. I don't know they were made using a different kind of resin, or if the finish was polished to make it feel more premium. The gold finished threads and nib feed collar (?) also makes the pen look more premium compared to the 9019, in my opinion.

Both pens come with a massive cartridge converter that on a full fill will last for many, many journaling sessions. The 9019 will still be my preferred pen when I have hand and wrist pain flair ups, though.

Now, on to the Century 100 hollowed out black and gold Jinhao. It was an immediate add to cart, no questions asked when I laid eyes on it. Black and gold pens will always be my first love and my forever favorite. This looks stunning. There is a red and gold version that is also gorgeous.

The pen is long and also on the heavier side. It can post, but doing so makes it comically long.

I am not 100% confident in saying the gold cage is metal or plastic, however it does not look cheap by any means. One Aliexpress listing claims the pen is electroplated with real gold. From personally elecroplating may years ago, I would think the cage is metal because matching the gold tone and finish with plastic would difficult.

To my eye the inside black accent is not see through. The grip and tail end are both made of metal. This gives it a little satisfying heft and also allows it to balance nicely in the hand.

I think we are working with a #6 nib. It is also smooth with some feedback out of the box. The include cartridge conveeter is a standard Jinhao converter that is easy to fill.

Overall, I'm very pleased! So far, my luck with Jinhao pens has been very good. Only one pen was a complete dud and went straight to the bin of no return. These two on the other hand, they have earned a spot on the top row of my pen case.

Someone on here recommended the Muji toothbrush holder to hold ink samples— let me say, this has been a game changer!! While I had never spilled any, I was always nervous and knew the day was coming. Now I can relax and enjoy filling my pens.

The Muji ones were out of stock except for gray so I ended up getting a similar one from Amazon.

I wish I remember who it was so I could tag them!

私は日本人で、漢字を沢山書くから日本の万年筆の細字と極細字ばかりを愛用してきた。でもパイロット、セーラー、プラチナが値上がりすぎて、とうとうついていけなくなっちゃった。

だから最近は同じ漢字圏でより安価な中国の万年筆を少しずつ集め始めてる……。

B32は手が小さい私にぴったりで、金属の軸とインクのシステムが吸入式なのも嬉しい😄グリップがプラスチックだから重心はかなり後ろよりかな。でもペンが短いからあまり振り回される感じはしない。レビューではインク漏れが指摘されてたけど、そもそもこのペンがかなりウェットで、嵌め込み式キャップが硬いから、キャップを開け閉めするときに反動でインクが飛び散ってるんだと思う。力まかせに開けたりしないで優しく扱えば気にならないよ。

I ended up taking the plunge and buying the MOONMAN (MAJOHN) B32 since it was down to 4,200 yen with sales and coins.

I did a test run with it, and it's absolutely amazing!!!

As a Japanese person who writes a lot of kanji, I’ve always loved and stuck with Fine (F) and Extra Fine (EF) nibs from Japanese brands. But Pilot, Sailor, and Platinum have raised their prices so much that I just can’t keep up anymore. So lately, I’ve started collecting cheaper fountain pens from China, which shares the same kanji culture.

absolute perfection for my small hands, and I love the metallic barrel and the piston-filling system 😄 The grip is plastic, so the center of gravity is definitely shifted toward the back. But because the pen itself is short, it doesn’t feel like it’s throwing off my balance. Some reviews mentioned ink leakage, but the pen is actually quite wet, and the snap cap is pretty tight, so I think opening and closing it with too much force causes a rebound effect that splatters the ink. As long as you don't yank it open and handle it gently, it’s not an issue at all.
