u/constanzabestest Feb 01 '26

Jokes aside i'm completely out of the loop when it comes to HSR what actually happened that it fell so low?

u/OzenSan66 Feb 01 '26

Extended version by 2 weeks irrc and 2nd half being only reruns.

23

u/VmHG0I Feb 01 '26

On top of last patch before major patch, lack of events and gameplays in general, 2 banners that ran concurrently with characters that are broderline useless if you don't have the previous banner character, 2 banners after that featuring 1 really old support that may not stay meta for a while and 1 dps that Hoyo dislike shilling.

16

u/RayIsEpic Feb 01 '26

"really old support" and he's ONE year old 😭😭💔💔

14

u/irllyshouldsleep Feb 01 '26

One year of age for a hsr character is equivalent to 4 yrs for a genshin character due to accelerated powercreep

1

u/Vaaaaaaaaaaaii Feb 01 '26

And only having like one fun event at the start of the patch that takes about an hour to do. On top of nothing for 4.0 for so long when we usually would've had a trailer in like November.

2 extended weeks on Dead patch due to Politics

21

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

New patch got delayed by like three weeks.

u/Phaaze13 GI/HSR/HI3/AK Feb 01 '26

The last new release character had their banner start in December, so there were only reruns. And unless you played break specifically there wasn't much of a reason to pull for either Lingsha or Fugue, who covered most of January.

u/Kir-chan HSR | Arknights beginner Feb 01 '26

As for the other two who just went up, Sunday got powercrept and is getting double-powercrept soon, and he has 0 vertical investment past an E1 that's now understood to be trash as well.

Aglaea isn't that popular and has had several reruns.

23

u/aaadam747 Feb 01 '26

The main patch got delayed so they had to do an extra banner

21

u/Obanai Feb 01 '26

It all rerun banners as well as a dry patch. All player are saving for 4.0. Epic comeback next month confirm.

10

u/masternieva666 Feb 01 '26

THe delay hurt them because of the new planet is base on japan so they need to extend the patch.

9

u/Loud_Evidence_7431 Feb 01 '26

Delayed patch cause the new planet is Japanese but got changed to oblivion due to politics.

Then almost all rerun chara are in a niche archatypes limiting the pool of pullers since once we arrive at the new planet there will be a new meta.

Also, even if there's a third banner of the staple brick support he is rumored to be out meta'd by an old chara, extending the draught.

Rerun characters who aren't that necessary + dry patch because they extended the patch and and the new region got delayed due to the current China-Japan political situation

7

u/lasermuffin Feb 01 '26

The big 4.0 release was delayed due to escalating tension between China and Japan (the new region and characters were HEAVILY inspired by Japan).

In conjunction, the re-runs they had to fill in the gaps were mainly dying unit archetypes who have been severely powercrept, so not a lot of incentive for people to spend.

2

u/Novel_Visual_4152 Feb 01 '26

0 content lol, only reruns (and they don't do well in this game)

Last new character was Dahila in December

  1. Dead patch

  2. 4.X is literally a few weeks away

  3. HSR has fallen off a bit due to a numerous things like powercreep, stale storytelling, and little to no events. If you look at the playstation Asia awards which is entirely based on revenue, you'll see that HSR is nowhere to be found.

1

u/MissiaichParriah HSR/Nikke/FGO/ZZZ/GFL2/Wuwa Feb 01 '26

I highly doubt number 3 is a reason considering that with all those problems, HSR became top 1 in november, it's really just 1 and 2

1

u/Cosmic_Ren P5X / NTE / HSR / Wuwa Feb 01 '26
  1. Cyrene a giga shilled character that has exclusive buffs for all the heirs

  2. A spending event with an exclusive weapon skin

  3. 9 banners running the strongest characters in the game all in one patch

  4. All the hoyo titles had nothing crazy going on to cannibalize sales

It better be number one. Context matters, 3.7 is such a massive extreme that it is incredibly disingenuous to pretend as that's a normal for HSR.

-2

u/Vyragami I quit gacha why am I here Feb 01 '26

3 is a problem, it's just one continuous issue that doesn't really show in an obvious way. Like HSR's peaks are getting lower and lower.

1

u/MissiaichParriah HSR/Nikke/FGO/ZZZ/GFL2/Wuwa Feb 01 '26

Not saying it isn't a problem, just saying I don't think it's a reason for the revenue to fall of a cliff

-4

u/Xerxes457 Feb 01 '26

I feel like this doesn’t matter too much, ZZZ is on there while Genshin/HSR is no where to be found.

3

u/Cosmic_Ren P5X / NTE / HSR / Wuwa Feb 01 '26

Genshin has been repeatedly the number 1 game revenue wise and won the grand award for 3 years straight on playstation.

Genshin isn't on there because it can't as it won it too many times which is why they made an exclusive ps5 controller in celebration instead.

HSR doesn't have that excuse as they never won the grand award and ZZZ has been on there more times than them.

1

u/MissiaichParriah HSR/Nikke/FGO/ZZZ/GFL2/Wuwa Feb 01 '26

January is all reruns because patch was extended by 2 weeks

1

u/Xerxes457 Feb 01 '26

They extended the patch by 2 weeks due to China/Japan issues. Because of this, they did this thing where there were 6 banners. All the good banners were in December so you can guess what happened here.

1

u/mlodydziad420 Feb 01 '26

The version was postponed and there were only useless rerun banners.

1

u/Kikura432 Honkai Impact 3rd | Punishing Gray Raven | Arknights: Endfield Feb 01 '26

Politics affected all media in CN in relation to Japan. HSR feared they got their heads out, so they extended the patch and go crunching time on their work desks in these extra 2 weeks just to change something into non-Japanese planet.

There isn't anything new in January. Game went drought. It wasn't planned, unlike HI3rd.

1

u/juniorjaw Input a Game Feb 01 '26

Politics. We've been having a case of low events before this, but add the political CN-JP issue on top and that low event syndrome hits like a truck.

1

u/Zealousideal-Run-786 Feb 01 '26

I also think lot of people quit after 3.7 (end of Amphoreus arc), I also think a lot of players aren't confident in 4.X since we know that because of politic matters that version might have been heavily modified. Also, players in hsr pay mainly for meta characters and rerun are never meta because of the big powercreep in this game.

1

u/CrazyFanFicFan How many gachas is too many? Feb 01 '26

4.0 was delayed due to politics. (The new region has heavy Japanese inspiration, and China isn't exactly happy with Japan right now) The delay meant that the entirety of January was just the latter half of Version 3.8, and most sales happen at the beginning of the version.

Additionally, there was only a single new character who supports a team that was already shown to be very vulnerable to powercreep.

Other than the Dahlia, every other character was a rerun, and of those, only one of them is considered meta (Sunday).

Finally, since Yaoguang and Sparxie were revealed to be characters of a new path, many people are saving up for them, since the game is almost definitely going to introduce new mechanics that basically require Elation units to beat easily.

u/matthewmspace Honkai Star Rail Feb 01 '26

The patch was delayed two weeks because of political nonsense between Japan and China. So there was NOTHING new in January to do. I opened the game a few times to do some grinding, but haven’t spent a penny in that game.

I haven’t rolled either, as Dahlia is niche for Super Break and that’ll probably get powercrept immediately with 4.0 finally coming out in two weeks.

Heck, depending on where you live, their YouTube channel might have not uploaded a single video in January at all. I honestly think the only HSR news I saw in January before the new video last night was the Fortnite news and that they fired Welt’s EN VA.

u/fat_mothra I will the Labubu Feb 01 '26

Gacha equivalent of playing Uno and they stack 17 "+4" on you

Extended patch because of political reasons, only reruns, right before a big patch, and no content afaik

1

u/Loose-Ad1386 Feb 04 '26

The CCP decided to escalate tensions in China and Japan, and with the Next planned location being Japan inspired, the devs had to rush and Create a new map, Planarcadia, this meant they needed a patch where NOTHING happens in order to buy time to finish making the world.

-1

u/higorga09 Feb 01 '26

Filler patch with a single new character that is a support for an archetype most people have already swore off

True true, I was a bit confused, the extended patch with delayed update doesn't help either

1

u/Killllerr Feb 01 '26

i heard that they had to delay the next patch so nothing new for like 4 weeks will sure kill your revenue

1

u/Kir-chan HSR | Arknights beginner Feb 01 '26

Second and up reruns don't sell in HSR

u/Dangerous_Unit3698 Feb 01 '26

Political climate tactical nuked their plans for a January release of 4.0

0

u/GetFiltered Feb 01 '26

Absolutely nothing is happening in the game, hasn't been for awhile, and people are just waiting for 4.0 in general.
