General Small drama afternoon: people are just now discovering that NTE's dating system only allows you to date women (making it probably the first Chinese yuri gacha)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It's been known in China for a while, since the last beta (in February), but just today a video by iYatoOfficial is getting viral on Twitter and lots of posts gathering over 100k likes in total have brought it to the general public's attention that in NTE you can't date men, but you can date women as female MC.

It's actually a bit of a flirty friendship, but very clearly intended to be seen as dating since the interactions are a bit too intimate. You can set up to 5 girls to date.

While it flew over my head in February (even thought I often browse xhs and bilibili) due to its neutral reception, the negative reception today is really hard to ignore bc it's everywhere if you follow any gacha fanpage, with several reposts and retweets bashing it (and a couple praising it as well).

This is making some people a bit bitter, specially because the info comes to the public attention a week after Mongil's announcement that they won't release more male characters after releasing the game with a small amount of them (https://www.reddit.com/r/gachagaming/s/Fkub1W2Yyh).

Well, at least they aren't baiting their players into playing a game that only caters to male players (and bi/lesbian women, even if by accident and it ends up being patched in the future).

Why can’t gachas who dgaf about male characters just commit to having an all female cast lol

u/kidanokun Apr 18 '26

going all female cast wouldn't attract normies into at least trying their game

how many husbando fans will even play this game now that they have made it clear that the the developers won't care about them and the dating thing is just with female characters ? I mean it's kind of insulting to both the players who like to play as male characters and those who don't have any problems with mixed rosters lol

Seriously. Maybe they'll snag someone without a social media account. But basically every husbando player is shitting on the game even before this. There are NTE accounts trying to gas up the new male revealed and they're getting shit on my people tired of the bait lmao

I really can't blame them. Why even bother trying and spending money on a game if the developers made it clear they aren't going to give a fuck about you? as for those without a social media, they'll notice the miserable treatment and leave lol

I may casually play it. But I definitely won't spend money on a game like this after seeing that statement they made.

I'll put extra into WWM or something else.

You're right.

I think a lot of companies live in the not-so-distant-past here, because this did use to work with games like WuWa, at least initially. A lot of newer fans only had Genshin for comparison, which had more women but also always released men and usually had decent spots in the story for them. However, now that the potential audience they're trying to lure in has already been burned like three+ times, they can't really expect the bait-and-switch to work anymore. It's just a waste of everybody's time now.

the new male looks pretty bad imo:( he looks like a jumbled mess, well i guess being a mess is nte's trademark.

There probably won't be any males added to the game post-launch just like Mongil Star Dive and Chaos Zero Nightmare. They're just trying to bait with launch cast. If you're primarily interested in male chars just ignore the game.

that czn situation gives me a good laugh every now and then

It's not about husbando fans. It's about how a not insignificant contingent of normies see playing a waifu collection game as inherently cringe, having males on the marketing gives it plausible deniability. Once those normies installed the game the hope is that the quality of the game itself will keep them around or they get attached to one of the waifus.

So its confirmed there won't be more male characters after launch? Not touch the game if thats the case.

u/Vane_999 Apr 19 '26

My bad, that's mongil (which will have only 4 men), I mixed them up. But still, the fact that they said only the girls will have the dating stuff with the mcs is a clear sign. I mean, even ZZZ (considered a waifu game) has platonic hangouts with the guys too. I wouldn't have high hoper for more male characters in the game tbh

Either way I am not touching the game out of principle now. I am not even a husbando enjoyer, I like a balanced cast and this basically confirms the game is gonna have a horrible ratio.

Its about time gacha devs get punished for this blatant character baiting.

I am not touching the game out of principle now

So what gachas do you play?

-1

u/RaiteiXIII Apr 20 '26

pls dont, the game is better without ppl like u

4

u/RiimeHiime Apr 19 '26

Its to bait straight men in as much as husbando enthusiasts.

1

u/Burstrampage Apr 19 '26

A lot. Most won’t even know about this until they start playing the game. Whether they’ll stick around after finding out is different though.

i was planning to because of all the starting rewards until i saw all of this. now i'm simply going to ignore it. not like i have time to play yet another gacha game when i already play four. oh well. maybe next time

u/davidpain1985 Apr 19 '26

These developers will soon learn that it won’t work anymore. They might be able to bait normies 5 to 10 years ago but now? People have wisen up….

u/Positive-Study7056 Apr 19 '26

Yeah, we damn have twitter and reddit to read trashy news bout another one bait game

Normies? You mean women? You guys are so weird

42

u/herminihildo Apr 19 '26

To be fair, a lot of normie guys like male characters, power fantasy if you think about it.

Just like girls who like to play as cute or beautiful girls (not gooner bait).

No, I think he just means normies. He's talking about those people that just sees an ad, or someone else playing, they see a male character they like and start playing. Not everyone is always online looking for news about upcoming gacha games.

u/theescape8 Apr 19 '26

Actually, a lot of women like to pull female characters, because of their feminine looks/actions, and some of them might even be attracted to the characters themselves. With that being said, the comment you replied to wasn't referring to women, but rather people or "normies" that won't play a game if it's infested with waifus only and not a single male character to balance the roster, which makes it look like a degenerate gooner game (which it is tbh, but it's trying to mask it with some male characters at launch). That's a win for waifu players (straight boys, lesbian girls, and people who like cute anime girls) and a loss for husbando players (mostly straight girls and queer people).

14

u/kidanokun Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

Well, myself is kind of a normie.. the "hates harem because it makes girls no more than paper cutter girlfriends" normie at least... the waifu having a heavy MC shipbaiting is just a downgrade to me and makes me not want the waifu

12

u/feederus Apr 19 '26

Normies because we find this level of goonership just weird. Something's just not right with you if you find it acceptable how much women are allowed to be treated as sex objects and not hypocritical to not treat men as the same.

A lot of people find justice in things being at equilibrium, and find this level of inequality as an injustice.

That, and people can sniff out what a creator's intentions and feelings on the matter when they make their works. We just cannot agree with or support people who have such simplistic view on gender and sex (not even talking about gay here, just on women).

And that's coming from a guy who doesn't even like "husbandos", and a massive gooner aside.

u/nOtbatemann Apr 20 '26

. Something's just not right with you if you find it acceptable how much women are allowed to be treated as sex objects and not hypocritical to not treat men as the same.

That's having preferences, not hypocrisy. Otherwise LADS would be massively hypocritical. Women(barely) exist in that world yet only men are sex objects.

I have no idea why people think having male characters prevents gacha from being goonslop.

A lot of people find justice in things being at equilibrium, and find this level of inequality as an injustice.

Injustice? Over the right to goon to pixels?
