(Global) News Goddess of Victory: Nikke to reduce scale of collaborations

https://x.com/NIKKE_en/status/2093224964459728943

"Plan B will exclude mini-games and 3D fields, feature fewer characters, and include a simplified story similar to an April Fools' Day event."

(They say they'll mostly do just plan B for collabs now)

Looks like even Nikke isn't completely unscathed by the Persona curse.

Dunno that I would attribute it to the persona curse, I don't think the community has ever taken particularly well to the collabs the game has gotten the entire time.

This collab just broke the camel's back with lower skin sales than ever if I had to guess.

u/S0wrodMaster 4d ago

The best collab they have was with dev the diver which was just a mini game

29

u/Kyubey210 4d ago

Minigame that also shock waves out to other minigame insanity in later events but yea

Makes me wish I come back for the mini-Metroid event they did for Old Tales

8

u/S0wrodMaster 4d ago

And after that we get the Dogshit collab like ChainsawMan and Re:Zero

5

u/Kyubey210 4d ago

I think event release order felt like Dave the Diver got wedged between the two if I remember right

But really actions have consenquences and it shows

Dave the diver was so good

1

u/Starmark_115 3d ago

Funny enough.

Dave the Diver is not going into Mobile this year.

u/Zroshift 4d ago

100%

This isn't the result of Persona. This is the result of Shift Up just making back to back bad collab decisions.

59

u/Yomnuro 4d ago

The fact that they keep collabing with franchises not even in their genre is really baffling to me

The tweet going off about the milisecond Yukikos underwear was shown in the animation has more likes and retweets than the actual source.

Like no shit the Persona fandom made a huge stink about it, they are massive in comparison to Nikke they don't even have a third of that size. The more mainstream they are the more insufferable they will be unless it was a gooner game to begin with like Bayonetta they will get more people who would fit into the games audience than just picking the bigger franchises and not do justice to either side.

21

u/ReXiriam 3d ago

A reminder that one of the last collabs ShiftUp set with Destiny Child was Kemono Friends.  They don't care about genres.

17

u/Mitamarin 3d ago

And they used to do collabs with Street Fighter and KOF. Hardcore gooning crowds.

No idea why they go mid collabs like persona and LR.

15

u/xemnonsis 3d ago

Nintendo (I'm pretty sure they own Bayonetta now) would never do collaborations so it's a moot point, Dead or Alive on the other hand...

5

u/StardustShoot5 3d ago

IIRC Sega owns OG Bayonetta, so SU can ask them. First descendant did Bayo event with OG outfit.

4

u/Yomnuro 3d ago

Yeah it was just a example they are like a million games out there that would 100% fit the target audience of both games but here we are for some reason with almost only sfw franchises

1

u/Nearby-Swing5256 1d ago

The tweet going off about the milisecond Yukikos underwear was shown in the animation has more likes and retweets than the actual source.

Where? there is no way there is something like that

16

u/vlee89 4d ago

What was the previous one before persona that did poorly?

54

u/ExceedAccel 4d ago

Lycoris Recoil

28

u/RaikiShak Dissidia Opera Omnia 4d ago

Low-key, this one a banger

68

u/didutryit 4d ago

Mostly for the japanese players fans of the anime. Still, it was kinda meh because no fanservice allowed, we barely got a gym shorts, but their legs were so thin. Compared to Nier/Stellar Blade, it was awful.

49

u/andercia 4d ago

Yeah, but an orphan got punted by Sugar. It justified its existence for that alone.

9

u/Geige 4d ago

Well I mean, when you put it that way...

7

u/SleepingDragonZ 4d ago

Still more than what we got for Persona, which is the worst collab I've experienced in Nikke.

15

u/Terin2 4d ago

Fr easily the third best after stellar blade and nier though ranking the rest might be hard since honestly they all kinda shit.

1

u/Koanos 3d ago

I liked it.

4

u/Koanos 3d ago

Neon Genesis Evangelion, the second collab.

5

u/Klusterphuck67 1d ago

I can only recall 2 good collabs, Nier and Dave the Diver. Stellar Blade is Shift Up's IP so they're under no financial pressure to make it back.

LycoReco was abyssmal. Eva was shoehorned and was even given 2 chances in a single go, but it was all bones no meat. ReZero and CSM units have no relevance whatsoever now and the story was cookie cutter (literal for the former).

7

u/Fishman465 4d ago

They're trying to have their cake and eat it too, though I wonder how much is SU and how much their publisher.

96

u/rhydderch_hael 4d ago

The Nier collab is generally well received, but that's the exception. And really, I think that only worked because Nier Automata and Nikke are close enough thematically that they could just write a Nikke story and have it apply perfectly to the collab.

72

u/FlamingNarwhall Azur Lane 4d ago

Along with fitting well thematically and story wise it also helps that Nier is totally fine being horny on main too. None of the fans upset at the collab characters being stiff and flat like they have been with Chainsaw Man and now Persona.

39

u/paradis_chateaudif 4d ago

Nier and Stellar Blade were massively successful. The problem with other IPs is that they heavily limit how much fanservice is allowed.

18

u/Idainaru_Yokubo 3d ago

Yeah their collab choices are weird sometimes

they should have have a collab with Zenless Zero. That seems to be the most obvious to me

16

u/Baitcooks 3d ago

The rezero collab comes to mind immediately in being one of the more absurd choices

11

u/DrakeZYX 3d ago

That one was the worst collabs this game has ever had all costumes felt low effort Emily having 2 left feet in one of her outfits with one of them clipping occasionally.

5

u/kuuhaku_cr No story no game 3d ago

I don't mind a Ryza one for the fan service but the story will probably be garbage.

46

u/andercia 4d ago

Also, it wasn't the whole collab that was received positively. The 2B and 9S side was regarded as fairly mediocre. It was the side focused on A2 and a mass produced nikke that received the most praise.

12

u/rhydderch_hael 4d ago

True. That was so good. I'd love for another Nier collab event focusing on that mass produced nikke and A2.

2

u/Kyubey210 4d ago

Automata follow up is a search me? Likely as Yoko Taro writing an LN adjacent to it

4

u/BillieEilishNorn 4d ago

Oh that's true, NieR collab was before my time so I forgot about it. That's definitely the sole exception though since I never hear anything good about CSM or Re:Zero.

3

u/Adamantium17 1d ago

I think that a big part of choosing the correct IP.

NiER and Stellar Blade both have devs who want to goon the characters and have a story setting that meshes well with Nikke. So we get collab characters with fanservice designs and a story that is relevant to the world of Nikke.

Compare that to Re:Zero and Personna, where you have very tame costumes for age 8+ games. And a story setting that is too low stakes/slice of life for Nikke world.

EVA did a good job of making Nikke models of the characters and the world setting fits, but the story was very forgettable. They also dropped the ball big time by not including a Yellow dress for Asuka, focusing on the less successful REbuild movies.

1

u/Cephalopod_Joe 1d ago

I mean Stellar Blade is literally the same dev as Nikke lol

13

u/Railgunblack 4d ago

Most collabs have bombed lmao. Only Nier and Stellar Blade sold particularly well iirc.

3

u/Railander 9h ago

in the game you have your character's ass facing you most of the time.

huh i wonder why only these 2 sold well.

43

u/DMercenary 4d ago

Some of the collabs are just. Odd.

82

u/Zroshift 4d ago

The collabs would be better if they stopped trying to appeal to people who are not their core audience.

There are many anime IPs out there that do collab and allow fan service of their characters and are more than likely something their players have already consumed.

Senran Kagura, Atelier Ryza/Yumia, ZZZZ series, To Love Ru, etc.

Literally Ryza in Nikke with the nikke jiggle intact would have funded Nikke until the end of time.

18

u/xangbar Everything Hoyo (Except Tears of Themis) 4d ago

I'd love Atelier collab in Nikke. They have done multiple in Azur Lane and I got all the units and their skins. I started Azur Lane much later so they re-ran old collabs and then the new one. My wallet was hurting because I wanted all the units + skins.

9

u/Zroshift 4d ago

Yeah, if Azur was able to put their asses on display like that, i am VERY confident that Nikke could've given Ryza fans something great.

1

u/Kyubey210 4d ago edited 4d ago

... so you up for a mini-Cave style Bullet Hell minigame?

I think the Alchemy system of the recent Atelier games also can be adjusted to fit as a minigame to gain Event buffs as well

... so AR experimental Nikke anyone for Ryza?

9

u/planetarial P5X(KR)/IN/Prosekai(JP) Future: Petit Planet/Silent Whispers 4d ago

The weirdest thing is Persona does have fanservice in it. But they decided to keep it tame for… reasons. Its not going to attract people who don’t like fanservice to play the game.

9

u/Fishman465 4d ago

Ryza could work as it has enough non-gooner players to attract. I fear they'd avoid other highly fanservice series, figuring "too much overlap"

4

u/Darman99-1136 4d ago

Yeah the Edgerunners collab truly an exception to the rule

Sad that they won't improve and default to the generic

u/Charming-Type1225 4d ago edited 4d ago

Well Nikke is their cash cow.

Pretty sure their RoI is very high due to how much money they are getting for putting in the bare minimum, just look at the collabs.

Unfortunately, it's very clear that Nikke is not their priority. It has been clear ever since their first response during the cn drama that they pretty much said they couldn't be bothered to add the QoL players have been asking for. We got the initial QoL sure but we're still missing the QoL after that, character buffs, skins, and exclusive miniganes

Their priority is Stellar Blade, and they are using Nikke to fund it. And they will choose popular IP over matching IPs

4

u/Fishman465 4d ago

Wouldn't be surprising as they wouldn't be the first company to use one game to fund another, though they are the first to try pivoting away from gacha. Ironically Cygames had chances with Relink and Versus but they ain't budging

0

u/Charming-Type1225 4d ago

Unfortunately even with the nikke money, the CEO couldn't stop being a clown and released that god awful AI video and the out of touch support of AI.

8

u/Fishman465 4d ago

Koreans supporting AI isn't surprising; there's less of a taboo against such things over there. That and cosmetic surgery is said to be done to particular extent

4

u/Charming-Type1225 3d ago

What kinds of AI though? I know that half of their stock market is being held by Samsung and SK, but AI deepfakes are still a major problem to them. Despite one of the least wary about AI, they have low confidence in how companies will be able to protect their data.

In the creative fields, pretty much nobody in korea is as shameless as shift up, not even Nexon. Some of devs even had to deny of using AI in their game.

And going back to the stellar blade AI drama, i'd understand if they use it to market to CN which made up 60% of the audience (US 10%, JP 5%), but no. They couldn't even tag their video correctly (video is Jpop but they tag the video as kpop)

1

u/Mitamarin 3d ago

According to industrial experts (was attending a workshop on it), anti AI is a predominantly Western developed world sentiment.

Most Asian and developing countries have adopted it enthusiastically because they see it as the best way to catch up and produce products that are good enough to appeal to their markets. Which spends way more than Western markets.

Basically, the money speaks for itself, either way.

4

u/Charming-Type1225 3d ago

I'm not here arguing against that AI is more popular in the east than the west. Like I said Kospi (Korean stock market) is being propped up by the companies fuelling the AI boom. Their economy is driven by AI and it is more accepted in the korean market

I am pointing out the discrepancy in the creative fields where nobody else in the korean gacha space is openly blatant about their AI usage. Not nexon, not smilegate (despite having some moments being called out as using AI by koreans themselves).

It's not like china where AI stuff is front and center in creative fields (bilibili is full of them) or many job listing about Generative AI on game studios

1

u/Kyubey210 4d ago

Attracting New Blood to particular ends is not cracked up to be sadly... this doesn't get into shenanigans like Custom Experimentals (ReZero S3, and arguably the opening act of Chainsawman Part 1) or for it's sake

At least even if the stories don't contribute, the larger picture exists (minigame insanity after Dave the Diver collab in later events anyone?)

8

u/DrakeZYX 3d ago

That’s probably because they choose IPs that don’t match well with Nikke.

Almost all of them save for Nier and their own in house Stellar Blade collab end up being a wet towel worth of exciting.

Makoto had an Ass reduction for no excusable reason especially when you look in P5R where she has a defined ass when in her Combat outfit.

6

u/LunaProc 3d ago

Tbh, I've seen fans of Phantom discuss how its really hard to justify getting the skin bc of how barely used she is

10

u/FluffyFlamesOfFluff 3d ago

It's especially bad because they literally, just a week or two before the collab, gave her a treasure upgrade - that still left her as a mediocre unit that only barely makes it onto 1/5th of the solo raids in game, with months of powercreep to push her out of even that before the next water raid comes along.

No unit has ever gotten two buffs/treasures (ignoring the Centi treasure rework) and there's no other system in the game to utilise to buff her either. It's more than likely that she will never, ever get buffed to a usable level - and there is no game mode where it is worthwhile to use "bad" characters, so you're paying 60 bucks for a lobby skin.

12

u/Red_Verse_8630 SUMMONER 4d ago

I wanted to try it for the crossover but seeing how stiff the girls were stopped me.

21

u/ThatBoiUnknown ZZZ (Ananta, Astrae Oratio, AP, & Fareidolia for future) 4d ago

It's probably because the idiot developers can't recognize they're working on a fan service game and not Genshin Impact...

Worst part of Nikke truly is just how bad Shift Up is at managing the game

3

u/Irishimpulse 4d ago

The Nier Collab and the stellar blade collab where good, the others were not. They didn't draw new eyes to the product, and they just disappointed the fans of Nikke or the fans of both works. It's so reductive to the characters, the persona collab spent a third being a gun safety PSA like that one episode of Sabagebu

3

u/Assassin21BEKA 3d ago

Because outside of Nier ans Stellar blade collabs every collab was too tame in comparison with what game brings on average. So there is rarely much point to be excited.

2

u/Competitive_Scar5347 2d ago

Hey call it whatever you want, dress it up however, but facts are facts persona collab happened, then this, so logic is quite simple:

THE CURSE HAS ALREADY SHOWN ITS UGLY HEAD!!!

My Black Lagoon collab is cooked!!

1

u/michaelbooster | HI3 | GI | HSR | NIKKE | BA | ZZZ | ToF 3d ago

Either the Persona collab is just that bad or i'm just really not that interested with Persona stuff. This is the first collab in nikke that i didn't enjoy at all, even the rezero & lycoris(only watched S1 for rezero & haven't watch lycoris yet) collab where i heard a lot of ppl didn't like, i still able to enjoy it but not this persona collab...

The only thing i can enjoy are the music & the minigame, anything else like the story, character designs & their skins are just boring for me...

1

u/duchefer_93 1d ago

Thing is, the Collab characters will easily get eclipsed by the next story Nikke, they are just to get more people to play.

No no, here's the worst part:

Makoto in P5 literally has a bigger ass. Like, they want to not go overboard on the characters so much they made them less sexy than their actual game appearance which is honestly impressive.

103

u/GlazerDVD 4d ago

"However, future collaboration events will be divided into two plans: Plan A, which retains the existing large-scale event format, and Plan B, a newly introduced smaller-scale format.

Plan B will exclude mini-games and 3D fields, feature fewer characters, and include a simplified story similar to an April Fools' Day event. Since these collaboration plans will run alongside NIKKE's original events, we expect them to achieve two goals: expanding opportunities to tell NIKKE's stories and giving prospective Commanders who have not yet experienced NIKKE a good opportunity to try the game. Please note that if we determine that a collaboration theme would satisfy a large number of Commanders, we may still use the Plan A format depending on the circumstances."

Tldr: plan B will run alongside other Nikke events, plan A will be used on collabs that have "potential"

14

u/Kyubey210 4d ago

Yea this sounds like reassessing the future, which is fine, eventual but fine

8

u/Indykowski ZZZ, Nikke, Endfield, WuWa, HSR, Arknights 4d ago

Seems like they plan on larger amounts of collaborations but current collab events are too large and costly to fit together with normal nikke events

76

u/TerryWhiteHomeOwner 4d ago

People play Nikke for Nikke and collabs almost always water down what makes the game work (designs and story beats) without adding anything.

It sucks that the team puts so much effort into them (especially this P5 one) but unless you're Nier and have the perfect confluence of horny+transhumanism, they're gonna flop.

35

u/user-766 4d ago

perfect confluence of horny+transhumanism, they're gonna flop.

Evangelion had it, they had 2 chances and they still failed it. They managed to make both stories that doesn't fit either worlds.

Evangelion collab stories were so dogshit that I started nikke because of it and EVEN I a newbie could do a better story fusing both franchise story elements into one.

Even making mistakes in characterizations that goes against the series they are collaborating and writing decisions like removing their memories from previous collab.

And it wasn't lazy at all, they made the assets but instead of doing something cool with it, they made boring slop.

I still can't believe that they never made Misato and Marciana story about sending young people to die and instead just booze lol. Or ignore the fact that Asuka had military training and Rei didn't so she should picked a sniper gun in the first place. They even made Rei fucking fish when she is vegetarian.

4

u/S0wrodMaster 3d ago

Counter argument dave the diver

3

u/Present-Secretary597 1d ago

Except that collab was their base game turned into a mini game instead of full character collab. Also Dave the Diver was released as a collaborative summer events between both games where we get Marciana and Sakura's alt which was a massive success, so not much of a lost. Besides, we played as Aegis squad instead of Dave.
Sure thanks to that it made me bought the game and I enjoyed it a lot, but I wouldn't call it the same level as other collab like CSM, Nier, etc.

1

u/Cephalopod_Joe 1d ago

God, that was their best mini game. Got me into actual Dave the Diver and I loved it.

29

u/user-766 4d ago

The less nikke does collabs, the better.  they ate terrible at it even at their full force, now imagine they half assing it

16

u/Old-Helicopter1689 Replaying NIKKE rn - OHHH YEAAAH!!! 4d ago

I feel like IPs the game collabed with didn't necessarily fit the vibe of the game itself.

But I personally would have never done collabs tbh.

6

u/Subject_Offer_9621 3d ago

Also Collabs become way less exciting when they do it every other month

Seriously, nikke wasn't even doing that bad, but the collab behavior is like those dying and desperate japanese gacha game that need collab to stay alive another day

2

u/CoomLord69 3d ago

Collabs for the sake of collabs make it feel more cash grabby and immersion-breaking. Like I don't wanna see John Persona running around in a high fantasy game, it feels wrong. Obviously the end goal is to get more eyes (and wallets) on the game, but you can do it without it being completely shameless by at least grabbing other franchises that don't seem completely out of place in your world.

36

u/Gunslicer 3d ago

How about a collab that the players want, instead of this:

11

u/ENAKOH SUMMONER 3d ago

14

u/DrakeZYX 3d ago

Whats more laughable is that in P5R she may have had a small ass but at least it was really defined.

In Nikke she has the first cutting board ass.

u/ENAKOH SUMMONER 3d ago

Yea played P5R and Queen is my fave lol

2

u/TheGamerForeverGFE No Saint Quartz? 3d ago

Nah I wouldn't call that small, definitely somewhere within the average but enhanced by latex range.

56

u/GarlicKaraage 4d ago

They said they will still keep the same scale of collab event if they deem the IP worthy enough.

This change is for less important IPs. Its not reducing the scale but inviting more smaller collabs alongside bigger ones.

30

u/damesis 4d ago

they just want to sell more, with less effort

13

u/Charming-Type1225 4d ago

Its not reducing the scale but inviting more smaller collabs alongside bigger ones.

As long as it's not clearly reducing the amount of collab that the game has, i fail to see that it's a positive change, and rather it could even harm the game in the long run. Even worse if they are allowing less important IP for nikke

A problem with the Nikke collabs are they are simply one of the worst in the whole industry. The story are bad and Nikke's gameplay is too shallow to allow good faithful recreation of the source material.

Now instead of cutting down the amount of the half-assed collab, they now decide that they're pretty much going to make half of them slop and half of them maybe "acceptable", which in turn hurts player immersion even more (which is also a big issue in Nikke).

Since they're pretty much going to half-assed the story, are they also going to half-assed the character kits? Are they going to half-assed the QA for the character that will lead to yet another restart of raids?

Imagine they end up doing a Plan B collab that ends up being more well received than a Plan A collab.

I will laugh my shit off because that will truly show they don’t know what we want.

51

u/Arrosis 4d ago

It’s asinine that they didn’t do this sooner. Collabs being a whole ass month with nothingburger stories. This Persona collab still has like 10+ days left. Completely dry and sauceless patch after the discussions of Ch. 47+48 MSQ died down.

From what I gather its potentially due to Bayonetta’s Japanese VA passing away a few years ago

7

Sega owns Bayonetta, Nintendo owns the copyright to all the titles they funded (so basically everything except the first game).

SMT Dx2 had a Bayonetta collab but iirc it only references stuff from the first game.

30

u/creveruse Nikke | ZZZ | WuWa 4d ago

I'm not sure your headline is really a fair summary of what the note says. I read this note as saying "we may do even more collabs than before, but many of them will be smaller in scope, while the current major event structure will be reserved only for collabs we think players will like most."

Also, specifically:

(They say they'll mostly do just plan B for collabs now)

Where do they say this? I don't read anything they said as preferring one or the other. It may end up true that we get more "plan B" collabs but I feel like that's bound to be the case based on volume alone since the whole point is to allow them to do collaborations without committing to a major event. Lots of other gacha do this; since I play it, Wuthering Waves comes to mind as one that ran some small profile collaborations (Sonic, Persona) that just gave cosmetic rewards, and reserved their major event for the Cyberpunk collab.

Honestly, this move makes sense to me. I think the only two collabs that went over well with the playerbase were Nier and Stellar Blade, and the rest have had lukewarm reception at best. It's no coincidence that Nier/Stellar Blade are the most fanservicey IPs and also have a lot of overlap in terms of world and character lore, so they fit in well. This structure lets them focus efforts on collaborations like those that mesh with Nikke and its active playerbase, while allowing for smaller-scale collabs that don't demand as much effort or attention from either the devs or players but can still reap the benefits of casting a wider net and drawing in audiences of different IPs.

4

u/Terrible_Ad6495 4d ago

" Please note that if we determine that a collaboration theme would satisfy a large number of Commanders, we may still use the Plan A format  depending on the circumstances."

This implies Plan A will be the exception, not the norm, I believe.

14

u/creveruse Nikke | ZZZ | WuWa 4d ago

Like I said, that might well be true since the nature of the Plan B format means they can and probably will do more of them, but I'm not sure I agree with the interpretation that Plan A collabs will be sidelined (for now). There's a world where they keep the current 2 Plan A collabs per year while adding a bunch of Plan Bs to the mix, in which case they actually scaled up collabs (by adding more).

In the context of the post, that comment reads like a follow-on of the previous paragraph to assure the reader Plan A is still on the cards--I read it like "we will be introducing a new Plan B structure that is smaller in scope, but to be clear, Plan A collabs will still occur."

Regardless, I realize while typing this out that I'm probably being too semantic here. I agree Plan B collabs will probably outnumber Plan A, I'm just saying that seems like it'll be by design rather than an effort to scale down collabs as a whole.

7

u/Anfini 4d ago

I'm an active player and I would roll for the characters for hero collection purposes, but skip all the event story because I just know it's going to be boring slice of life stuff between the Nikke and collab characters. The Stellar Blade collab is probably the only really good one that the game has had, and it's because both games come from the same company.

But also has multi universe shit, they can just create a universe where all the characters are virgin and shit. Also, it’s not like the collab characters will be in the harem. Nikke’s collabs are basically “wow what is this place? Ok bye!”

There's Action Taimanin which is SFW and don't have this kind of stuff I think.

2

u/Ha-Gorri 4d ago

meh I guess some people could get offended since many of the games in the franchise have it, still many taimanin games may aswell be just female protagonist hentai game, and taimanins collab with many games where they just become part of whatever harem the game has going on, my point is that I'd rather collab with eroges and adult games than whatever sfw anime is popular with a completely different community

u/IntelligentWriting47 4d ago

There is dxd, high school of the dead and many other that i cant name, which have heavy fanservice without the ntr part. Its very clear that SU prioritize acquiring new player base over serving their already invested playerbase with these collab, which is why they often just choose whatever the most popular/hyypepd ip. But choosing the likes of taimanin serve neither, that shit is too niche and also it will drive away your own playerbase that loves the ML part of the game

1

u/Ha-Gorri 4d ago

They are reducing collabs because they are a failure so far, the problem with using characters from stablished romance (ecchi and harem) stories is that if you get this schizo about NTR being in a route of the games (literally just pick the taimanins from a vanilla story) then I can also bring up how this is disrespectful for the franchise because commander would be NTRing the protagonists of said franchises and you will get backlash from some of the fans if there was a male in the vicinity at some point. Then there won't be collabs. By the way this did in fact happen with azur lane and idolmaster collab and a bit with the date a live one, also happened between majhong soul and blue archive, which ruined the game reputation in china for a while.

1

u/IntelligentWriting47 4d ago

Are they failure? maybe, i personally dont have the data to claim that it is or not. But what i can say for certain is that i really do hate collabs, it serves nothing for me, they take over 2 event slot where it could be actually be used for nikke own story build up. And i hate it even more when people bring up nonsensical collab idea. Thats all im gonna say, im not in the mood to argue about another gacha game drama

1

u/WuWaCHAD 3d ago

commander would be NTRing the protagonists of said franchises

Its not impossible or unreasonable to work around it. You can have the original MC of those franchise also join the collab, but as NPCs only. Then when the player starts the bond story for the collab characters, have a few lines in Bond 1 to indicate the POV is from the MC from that franchise, not from the Nikke commander. Not really that hard, and I don't think anyone will interpret that as NTR, since the Nikke commander never has any real "bond" with collab characters before anyways (advice session is disabled, and the bonds for existing collab characters already lacks a heavy involvement from the commander, if at all).

u/bluedragjet 4d ago

They need to stop choosing series because they are popular and choose series that match their genre/age rating

112

u/Maleficent-Chair9663 4d ago

We need to start criminalizing the incorrect usage of memes and restore balance to the internet

21

u/Charming-Type1225 4d ago

I mean Chainsawman was the highest age rating IP that Nikke has collab with (18+ with some putting as 21) and it's arguably the worst collab the game had.

They also thought it was a good idea to cover makima with the coat.

28

u/Grayman103 4d ago

No the worst was EVA 2. The fact they made players sit through an entire month of only Eva just to turn around months later and go “Guess what guys? MORE EVA!” It was probably the first time the game ever done damage control for how negatively received it was.

5

u/Charming-Type1225 4d ago

Oh yeah the EVA collabs were pretty bad I'm with you there. It's just Nikke just have so many bad collabs it's not east to pick which one is the worst.

My personal pick is still chainsawman. The collab units are ass and simply don't make sense. Why are they not using their powers? They can do creative stuff like scarlet's sword but giving the csm chara just guns with somewhat matching decals. At the very least the eva units are usable

Even the best collab that they have (Stellar Blade) still is rife with problems due to how buggy it was. It exposed how lacking Shift Up's QA team was considering the raid had to be restarted like 3 times. It killed any drive I had to do raids. To this day the QA is still underwhelming

1

u/JakeTehNub 3d ago

Eva 2 collab at least had that minigame. CSM didn't have shit.

1

u/Kyubey210 4d ago

I mean Rebuild of Evangelion did feel like it's big enough to be split into more or less Front End (1 and 2) and Back end story wise (those that are left) but still

1

u/Adamantium17 1d ago

The world of Chainsaw man has outlawed guns (IIRC, only watched season1), so just that makes it weird. Why collab with a cover shooter booty anime game if your IP has no guns?

0

u/Fishman465 4d ago

The real issue is CSM isn't a fanservice series and fans have made a sort of imagine of Makina that the Canon self is different than. That said if AL touched on CSM, they'd try to make fanon Makina in all her thicc glory

2

u/TE-Ghoul 4d ago

I don’t think lycoris recoil is that popular tbh, so I genuinely don’t know how they come up with collabs

1

u/ShellFlare 4d ago

This made me realize their actual age rating is T for teen.

6

u/Fluffychimichanga 4d ago

Thank god, 2nd Eva collab burnt me out of Nikke until Goddess Fall

4

u/Global_Rin NIKKE 3d ago

That’s what Commanders have been telling ShiftUp since forever. They just didn’t listened.

CSM, ReZero, Evagelion, Lycoris…and now Persona.

Of all Nikke’s collabs, only three really stick and receive more positive feedback; Nier Automata, Dave the Diver, and Stellar Blade.

Nier worked because Yoko Taro is a man of culture, and IP has similar vibes to Nikke. Dave because it was a smaller collab, mostly focused on minigame, which tbh, is Nikke one strong trait. Stellar Blade is in house collab.

Hopefully, future collabs will be more on tune with the game itself, and not chasing current trending IPs.

9

u/pdmt243 3d ago

in all honesty, the Persona collab was ass (not a pun). The persona girls have nothing in the ass department, particularly Makoto. What they did to her cake was a travesty lol

19

u/Bandicutie314 4d ago

Nikke had some of the worst collab.

4

u/Responsible_Fly6276 4d ago

the thing which leaves me puzzled after that text is

Please note that if we determine that a collaboration theme would satisfy a large number of Commanders, we may still use the Plan A format depending on the circumstances.

If they have some metric to guess which collab might satisfy the masses, then why not just do these? I don't understand why one would make a weaker version of a collab just for the sake of it.

23

u/Moh_Shuvuu NIKKE - FGO - Trickcal - Umamusume 4d ago

Best NIKKE news I’ve heard all year! Collabs are an absolute bore.

Only collab I will take is NIKKE X Trickcal, lmao.

Id say its for the best as a nikke and persona fan.

5

u/vnvalentine 3d ago

Stellar blade and neir makes perfect sense in terms of collabs.

But resident evil? That's a head scratcher honestly.

Also if a gacha exists, is there some written or contractual rule that it has to collab with persona? Cuz I think they've nearly been in every gacha game at this point.

But the again when that happens ppl call it the persona curse and in some cases leads to the gacha eventually EOS.

Clarification needed: how many gachas have EOS after a collab with persona, out of curiosity?

1

u/Seth-Cypher 2d ago

Clarification needed: how many gachas have EOS after a collab with persona, out of curiosity?

A few, and its happened often enough that its become a meme amongst the gacha community. But quite honestly there's probably alot more gachas that have survived collabing with P5 than most people realize.

3

u/deadbulky 3d ago edited 3d ago

What the scale? the problem was persona collab units were not only assless, doesnt fit with nikkes themes but also plain bad units, did they think they would sell with that? lol

3

u/PerformanceLow4862 3d ago

Unironically wouldn’t mind more collabs akin to the Dave the Diver collab, least it did its own thing

3

u/Reimu1234 3d ago

good, we're all tired of these cash grab collabs

3

u/Vaomatua 3d ago edited 3d ago

They just collab with titles that bore most of the community.

I'm just here hoping for Black Lagoon, Claymore; Hellsing, or Bayonetta. Gimme badass sexy ladies.

3

u/rzrmaster FGO / Nikke 3d ago

Pfff if the devs bothered to make collabs with games the community like perhaps they would make money.

Instead we get a shitty pointless collab with a bunch of boobless assless waifus. Forget a single dollar, I wouldnt spend a single cent on any of them.

3

u/Blackandheavy 3d ago

They have themselves to blame for constantly doing collabs with franchises that wouldn’t want their characters to be involved in Nikke.

If Shift Up were smart, they would’ve chosen God Eater, Senran Kagura, or Black Lagoon for a Nikke collab.

6

u/kazuga19 Uma/GI/ZZZ/Nikke/BD2/AL/WW/PTN/R1999/BA 4d ago

Selective reading.

They said that theres still Plan A.

6

u/dendenmoooshi 4d ago

Great for current fans. Their content is already good, collabs lower it down for sure. Though that can be said about most collabs.

10

u/RayDaug 4d ago edited 4d ago

This is a good call. The collabs, narratively, are not interesting, and having them take up so much time creates pretty big dead zones.

The requirement for the characters to be The Characters from The Series really holds back anything potentially interesting from happening. The D-Wave stuff is super lame. If the characters can't be made to fit the setting, then just stick them in the simulation room!

14

u/Grouchy-Chain-7853 4d ago

I knew the Lycoreco collab story was going to be unexpectedly good when they mentioned the D-Wave in passing and immediately moved on to making an actual storyline and engaging interactions between the collab and Nikke characters.

And then they go right back to terrible, uninspired writing for Persona. Felt like half the storyline was just introducing characters to each other (including the Persona characters to each other, since they're from 3 different games).

13

u/RayDaug 4d ago

Yeah, for as much as people like to hate on it, the Lycoreco collab was probably their best one, from a story perspective. In large part because of what you mentioned, and also because Sugar punted that kid through a door holy shit.

10

u/Ariel_92 4d ago

oh god those collab are awfull the evangelion one make quit the game

2

u/Kyubey210 4d ago

Hmm, well change of scale is there

5

u/Long_Voice1339 4d ago

Ngl I just want a taimanin crossover, there's a phone game that would pair well with nikke.

23

u/hobozombie 4d ago

Good. Personally, I'm a full-on collab hater. If I wanted to engage with these characters foreign to the game I'm playing, I'd consume whatever media they're from. Usually they're complete FOMO characters, reruns are rare, and their scenarios are a tonal mismatch for whatever game they're guesting in.

15

u/VegetableMusician345 4d ago

The problem is that they didn't say there would be fewer collabs, they only mentioned reducing the resources put into them. This means Nikke will have the same number of collabs, but they're going to be even worse than before.

5

u/hobozombie 4d ago

By and large, units are the biggest resource hog for collabs, so if this means just themed skins and little time-limited missions instead of FOMO units, that's a win in my book, I already ignore almost all paid skins in games.

2

u/G0_0NIE Nikke, Epic Seven 4d ago

Depends on perspective

I would appreciate if they embrace the lack of effort and just reduce the duration of the event. From the time I've been playing, the SB Collab was the only one I could walk with happy - everything else has been buns one way or another.

2

u/Middle_Bottom 3d ago

Okay no offense, but shiftup doesn't know what they want to do with most of their collabs for nikke...

2

u/OneDabMan 3d ago

I think the issue with Nikke and collabs is that the collabs often aren’t particularly interesting to Nikke players and people who might be interested in the collabs aren’t interested or are actively disinterested Nikke. So, you kind of have a situation where the collab serves no one.

2

u/wowpepap 3d ago

never their strong suit tbh.

2

u/TheGamerForeverGFE No Saint Quartz? 3d ago

This is what happens when they make Makoto's ass literal smaller than her ass in the actual P5 game lmao.

2

u/No_maid 2d ago

It doesnt help that the collabs have underwhelming stories. The one that was actually really good was stellar blade.. which is cheating because it's also their IP.

6

u/damesis 4d ago

this is bad, really bad. not only they want to reduce the amount of work put into collabs(mini games, areas, story scenarios even if they are kinda mid), they want to keep releasing collab characters but without the effort put into selling them. lazy fcks. they promised in the newest developer notes that they would double efforts in main scenario quality and events , but who cares about something you are promising a year from now.shift up as a company has been getting on my nerves, with both stellar blade and nikke direction.

4

u/sioghoise 4d ago

good, collabs are a bane for this game especially when the IP doesn't want its characters to fit in.

havent rolled for any collab chars and will continue doing so.

4

u/TheWanderingSlime 4d ago

They collaborated with something that’s completely off brand.

4

u/WuWaCHAD 4d ago

I thought they finally understand that making big events for franchise that don't match up with the setting (and also missing lots of fan service) is not a good idea, but it seems they just wanted to push the original story instead and made that change due to workload. Well, whatever.

nah the characterization was pretty mid and i kept cringing at the dialogue, especially when they forced phainon to keep trying to relate to what gil was talking about. overall it was still embarrassingly bad and why i don't take hoyo fans serious when they call any hoyo writing "good", since I've played plenty of their games and all their stories suck, and I can't take the "honkaiverse" seriously when major parts of their lore is just copied from type-moon.

3

u/BetaBlacksmithBoy Langrisser 4d ago

Yeah, I think the choices they made were bad, even if they make sense due to the sizes of the IP's.

Persona, Re: Zero, Evangelion and Nier are all very basic crossover's. Nothing we haven't seen before in a dozen different games. Chainsaw man is a bit more rare but also did not fit at all to the point of not being able to play as the titular character.

Not everyone liked it, but I think Resident Evil was actually one of the better one's just due to it being a bit more out of the ordinary and giving anime designs of normally realistic characters.

By far the best one was Stellar Blade due to them owning the Ip and being able to make the story cannon within both games. We need more stuff like that. More obscure anime/games that fit the art style and world better.

But there is no point in having a boring 2 part story where nothing happens like what we saw with Persona and Re: Zero.

2

u/zappingbluelight 4d ago

I never enjoy any collab story in Nikke, cuz Nikke too scared to do anything to add to the character/story. It's just reference.

3

u/MrCovell GI, HSR, ZZZ, Nikke 4d ago edited 4d ago

It makes sense I think out of like all the collabs they did there were one or two that weren’t at minimum nothing burgers, some even disliked a lot. Too many story and design limitations for these collabs that clash with the rest of Nikke. Most people play Nikke for Nikke characters not insert other character from other game here.

19

u/rainzer 4d ago

Feel like Nikke players would like them more if collabs was more 2B asscheeks instead of like negative ass Aigis

12

u/MrCovell GI, HSR, ZZZ, Nikke 4d ago

People will try to deny it and act like ass isn’t a big part of the game lol

5

u/StepOnMeNangong Blue Archive | Zenless Zone Zero 4d ago

I mean yeah, what’s the point of putting a character into Jiggling Asscheeks: The Game if their asscheeks won’t be jiggling

5

u/SleepingDragonZ 4d ago

You spelled Makoto wrong, Aigis has a bigger robot ass than Makoto in the collab, who's known for her ass in Persona 5.

6

u/SpottedPenguin114 4d ago

Yeah, once you gave a second assless collab in a row I mentally checked out, like what are we doing here? Surely there are Ips out there that can do so much better.

2

u/Conscious-Hearing779 4d ago

If they reduced the price for the skins and changed/removed the exclusive skin gacha system, then maybe there would be more sales

2

u/Karisselmon87 4d ago

Would it be better if they ditched the collabs entirely and focus on parallel world stories instead? The Gatekeeper seems capable of doing that.

2

u/SleepingDragonZ 4d ago

Persona collab didn't do too well huh?

2

u/Xaern511 2d ago

When lycoris recoil colab teaser was out people was guessing it was blue archive

2

u/dby2k 1d ago

Funny enough Makoto's chibi model has a very visible cake which is entirely missing from the shooting model. If I were to hazard a guess shift up originally designed her with cake but the owners of Persona probably said "no cake".

2

u/Sure_Rough_56 1d ago

Honestly, I don’t think NIKKE is doing anything wrong by collabing with popular anime. If anything, I think these collabs are helping NIKKE become more popular and bringing new players into the game. Not every collab has to be 100% within the same genre.

1

u/Noja877 4d ago

Nikke collabs are notoriously garbage with very few exceptions. I wish they drop them completely.

1

u/Darkblazy 3d ago

This is what happens when you release two mfs and the best girl is just a SR.

1

u/Ocelot-95 4d ago

I know collabs are welcome for any game... But they need to calm down with it.

So far, the only Collab which I enjoyed was with "Stellar Blade" (obviously, SU own IP).

1

u/xiaoguy 3d ago

it's not really the persona curse. most of the collabs were just honestly pretty awful, the persona one was just especially bad because you can tell that Atlus/Sega weren't letting them do anything that you would expect for nikke. i think the only ones that really turned out well were Nier and stellar blade, and one is because yoko taro is happy to do anything, and SB is shift up.

1

u/avelineaurora AK|AL|BA|CZN|EF|EX|HBR|HSR|LC|N|NTE|PtN|R99|SS|TC|WW|ZZZ 4d ago

Thank god tbh. This game has always gone so bizarrely hard on collabs. Honestly though I'd prefer the same scale they're at now but less, rather than pared down collabs that barely matter even less than the ones we already get.

1

u/Aviendha69 4d ago

Pretty sure they also implied collabs will be more frequent and run alongside other events because of this.

1

u/alexelbdmc Nikke & HSR 4d ago

The developer notes say that aside from large collaborations, they're also going to consider doing smaller collaborations, meaning that apart from the two "big" collabs they do each year, they could add smaller event collaborations(similar to April fool's events)or depending on player reception, turn those into "big" collabs

1

u/General2924 3d ago

ty persona and fck you

1

u/chotomatte 3d ago

Sounds like corporate speech for "We are not investing as much effort/budget into collabs anymore unless they have good expected ROI"

1

u/JakeTehNub 3d ago

(They say they'll mostly do just plan B for collabs now)

They didn't say this. They said they'll do big and small collabs instead of just big collabs.

1

u/luciusetrur 2d ago

I'm in the minority for sure but I enjoyed the persona collab.

1

u/Seth-Cypher 2d ago

The problem is the narrative for most of these collabs...just don't really work that well? Like I'm often finding myself going like "Uh...thats great and all but can we just get the next main story chapter already?" At its heart, Nikke is semi-grounded in the way its world works. Involving interdimensional stuff or other worlds simply doesn't work for its kind of story telling.

On top of this, for a game that advertises T&A alot the collabs sure are lacking in this department. The only exceptions seem to be Stellar Blade and Nier.

1

u/Klutzy-Complaint-328 1d ago

collabs went to live on a farm with surface content

-1

u/SartorialSinecure 4d ago

RockwellFreedomOfSpeech.jpg.

I guess I'm the wierdo, I actually really like Nikke collabs, and look forward to them. I generally enjoy Plan A events, because I think the maps are fun to explore and full of neat little details. I like that there's a freebie SR to add to the roster, even if I'll never use her.

I don't see any issue with expanding collabs to include plan B events, too. I'm sure there's IPs that couldn't really support a full event, but would be fine for a side story and a single character.

I might be biased a little, I only started playing because of the Eva collaboration, but I think the current style of using collabs to 1) showcase another property, and 2) have an excuse to bring out existing characters again is a good combo, and I hope it keeps up.

0

u/Yakitoriyama 4d ago edited 4d ago

Last collab is Persona, censored, flat *ss. Why would player pull for them. Units are quite meta but not exceptionnal and we're close to 60 days to 4th anniversary
