You could have placed any collab and it would have been the same, most people playing nikke don't care about the random ass characters that just appear for 3 weeks and disappear forever. Shift up knows, that's why those characters are never really meta defining.
That's also why they recently said that each collab will be treated differently from now on. Which means that some of them will be shorter, with no map and no minigame. But there will also be longer ones if SU feels like Nikke has good synergy with the IP they are collaborating with, which is a good step in the right direction I think.
Asuka and Rei weren't meta defining but they were a meta combo for a bit since they fed into each other. Making units require other units to hit their peak really took off after the persona collab with how mediocre every absolute overclock is outside of Vesti unless you have the other two
