(Global) News FGO is adding a link account system to the global version (currently available only in the United States and Canada, even though the global version is also available in Europe, SEA, Latin America, Australia, etc.)

Lose my account that consist of Musashi and the Caster Artoria due to me forgetting where I place my link code. Oh what it could've been if they implement an easy google login back then.

You can ask the support service to recover the account. They are even quick.

I tried to contact support back then, but I got lazy answering so many questions from the support. We emailed back and forth 5 times I think, and I just gave up and moved to another gacha game, haha.

Seconded. I don't know how I managed to be in their good graces, but they restored my account 3 times in total (some of those account restores weren't as a result of me forgetting though.)

Bro, we're almost at 2027 and the fact that your account depends on a code, and if you lose it you're screwed, and that it only allows you to have the application installed on one device seems like an alarming lack of quality of life.

Yep, even in Masters EX you can link your account to your Nintendo account, which is handy and more useful.

Never played a game with this kind of system. What is it actually for?
From the comments here it sounds like it is for transferring save data but that is ridiculous to me ...

If you lose your phone or just get a new one, you want some way to transfer your data. Before there was a link code tied to your account that you needed to have, with this there is an account on an external service that it is tied to instead.

Was account linking not available before???

u/2doDoostream 6h ago
Before you need to get the transfer code from the game* before transfering the account to another device, and if you lost the code good luck trying to get back your account.
*The code only works for 1 transfer, so after you transfer you account to another device you need a new transfer code.

Awesome!! can we play in 2 devices simultaneously?

u/thisisthecallus 6h ago
No, this is just account linking for transfers, not for logging into the game itself.

How the fuck is gmail linking not available for a live-service game in 2026 is beyond me.

How is this game these days? Worth getting into? I have zero exposure to the Fate franchise, but the ve always been curious about it.

It can be fun if you know what you're getting into (and it's peaks are pretty much as high as gacha stories can go), but it's an old JP gacha with all it's faults

It probably has the best narrative in a gacha game but theres also 11+ years of Content and a lot of what makes it good is having knowledge of Fate and other Type-Moon stuff so its just not worth it

In terms of story, still one of the best to ever do it once you get past the early hurdles. I also want to highlight the story gameplay, because FGO does not dumb down its story fights for casual players (beyond the supply of revive items) like a lot of modern gachas do. FGO's main story required fights can genuinely reach the level of, if not exceed, actual endgame challenge fights. The game has a very powerful low-rarity roster, and it's going to force you to use it.
Said endgame challenge fights are also pretty neat, since most of the time they're more puzzles than damage races. If a turn timer shows up, it's a fight mechanic, not a fact of life.
On top of that, while there is a "meta", it is ALL farming optimization, so if you don't care about optimal farming, you can use who you like for most stuff, and a lot of hard fights have off-meta counters too. Plus, the game's powercreep is remarkably minimal; The most busted characters are older than some of the gachas you'll see talked about here. Character dupes are also minimally impactful; There's no major gameplay impact that pulling multiple copies can give you in 99% of cases.
However.
FGO is a 2015 JP gacha game. It is old, it is clunky. It is grindy, and it has no in-built autobattle. (Even if there's an external fan-made app for that) The rates aren't as bad as the internet would lead you to believe, but that does not make them GOOD; You're slightly more likely to pull a 5* in FGO than you are to get an early (pre-soft pity) 5* in a Hoyo game. And its pity is 300. It also does take a bit to get to the part where the story is generally agreed upon to get good.
Playing FGO in 2026 is a lot like playing an old MMO or older entries in a notoriously clunky series (Like Monster Hunter or Fromsoft games), although there's at least one gacha that embodies that more. There's something special there, but whether or not it's worth the effort is entirely up to how much Old Game Design you're willing to put up with. And "none" is an extremely acceptable answer.

Story aspect, it’s still the best. Once you get to ~ Camelot.
Gacha aspect, it definitely improved by a little bit as years ago there was no pity and you could get hoed, but the rate is still ass. To max a servant out you need to get 6 copies to reach NP5 although many people would just rather pull for different characters. The gacha currency given from events is okay at best, which peaks at anni.
Gameplay wise it could be fun if you love turn based however it can get repetitive if you don’t pull any new units and the farming can get very tedious.
Despite all the flaws, FGO remains my top 1 for 8 years carried by its storytelling alone, along with lifelike characters
Edit: W goons as well

So, it's for global version but not available globally? Wtf?

u/Subject_Offer_9621 6h ago
Even funnier when it had a lot of region block before
It's global, but it's blocked in country that shouldn't have any problem with the game, for instance when it becomes available in South east asia, it's still region block for some of them
It's a mess

It has never been a true global version and has never been marketed as such. It was US and Canada at first and then they expanded to other specific, individual countries in a couple different waves while rebranding it as "English."
