Im doing my part and waiting several months after gta's release to see how it is.

Not that I usually buy things on release, but I can't even do that this time, not until a year has passed and Rockstar stops pretending they won't release it to PC.

As far as I'm concerned, that game doesn't exist until there's a PC version.

Even as a PS5/PC owner, I still don't give a shit about it on console after everything that happened with 5. in 2 years there will be some modded PC servers that blow everything R* has done out of the water and console players will be begging for it like they have for 5's modded servers for the past like 7 years.

It's not coming to PC? What?

I mean, I never bothered playing GTA5, so I don't really care, but I'm just shocked.

You didn't really read what they said. They said stop pretending it isn't coming. It's obviously coming just artificially delayed so that people will buy it more than once.

u/Hijakkr 3h ago

I did read it, and am still shocked that they aren't releasing on PC at the same time as consoles. That cuts out so many potential buyers.

My tinfoil hat theory is that they know GTA6 has such a huge amount of hype that this time around they are banking on people buying it on console because its the only way to play, and then some of those same people will buy the game again on PC for the improved performance and mods when they finally release it.

That's not a tinfoil hat theory. Rockstar has already done exactly that for exactly that reason with other releases. It's widely known by this point.

Ill wait years just not to have to play another 30 fps game.

110% fuck that noise.

u/beegboo 9h ago

30 fps isnt bad as long as the game is designed around it. Good money says gta will not have the level of care needed for 30 fps to be good.

The 2000s called, they agree with you, but would like their games back.

Just design around 60, jesus. It's not that hard, we did this in the 90s for god's sake. On consoles!

A lot of people don't really care. The Steam Machine discussion was that people were okay with a lower performance machine and lower FPS to just have a small form factor in their living room.

Isn't that basically the whole discussion around consoles? They talk about how sure PC is more powerful but a big part of console stuff is the convenience. No managing drivers just put a game in and play.

1

u/Tyson367 15m ago

Managing drivers? It's literally one button click and you usually don't even have to do it. Maybe once or twice a year.

And there is a great use case for that. Great. Even the Steam Machine can run many games fine at 60 fps if people optimize.

Take a look at Ghost Recon Wildlands. You get like 100 fps on maxed out settings on a modern GPU at 4k with all settings cranked to overdrive, and it looks gorgeous. Better than some modern games.

It's a 2016 game.

Stable 30 fps, on a game designed to run at 30 fps, looks absolutely fine. I'd rather have a great game running at 30 than a mediocre game running at 60/90/200/etc.

You've clearly never tried CP2077 in 30fps, it's unplayable. PS3 versions of GTA IV and V looked smooth in comparison.

1

u/nhalliday 2h ago

Please actually read my comment before responding. If a game is "unplayable" at 30 fps then it wasn't designed to run at 30 fps, and is thus not one of the games I was talking about.

Unless of course you just equate "I know it's running at 30 fps" with unplayable, in which case the argument is pointless.

1

u/WorkFurball 1h ago

If it has a locked 30fps mode then it's "designed" to run at 30fps, and it was awful. Meanwhile Spider-Man remastered and Miles Morales with all the bells and whistles worked great at 4k30.

But how am I going to justify all this money I shovelled into photorealistic textures! What do you mean the customers like "art"!?

8

u/DMZ_Dragon 8h ago

Textures don't even take up performance lol, just VRAM. We've been doing this for ages.

Hell, you can create graphics and textures that look completely 3D:

WITHOUT Raytracing or any other tech.

That's a 2011 engine with mods!

Crimson desert also shows we can do it today. We just need to slow down and optimize again.

I can immediately tell when a game is locked at 60, and it bugs me.

If 30 is fine for you, then that's great, but a lot of folks just can't go back.

0

u/IdleSteps 7h ago

...and reason says that even in that scenario, it would be much better at 60 and higher. This has been true of every GTA game: released at 30fps on console, much better and more fun at higher frame rates.

I mean this is true of literally every 30fps game tbh.

After using high refresh rate monitors for years, I sold my switch shortly after buying it as too many games were 30 fps. Zelda totk ran like ass, no idea how it got so many 10/10.

People give a pass for gta since they are always technically impressive.

3

u/Torontogamer 8h ago

it wasn't buttery smooth, but docked totk ran decently to my eyes... (mind you Hades used to slow down regularly when there was too much going on, but hey that just kinda made it easier lol )

but I guess the brain kinda resets for a switch game vs pc... and honestly with GPU prices as they have been I've been tending down to 60ish fps unless I'm playing something like CS and trading off detail to lock in at least 144

but if you're running like 260 all the time... ya I guess I can imagine it being annoying

u/ELpEpE21 7h ago

The dips in the underworld in ToTK made me pirate it for PC so I could play it at 60 fps/1440p ultrawide. I thought it was unplayable. Any physics interaction had a small pause before.

You need a beefy rig to do this tho lol.

1

u/Torontogamer 6h ago

ah I hear you, there was some weird pauses around physics, not really sure why that didn't bug me more now that I think about it

3

u/ELpEpE21 6h ago

Am I comparing the performance of a switch to a 4090?

YOUR GODAMN RIGHT I AM

2

u/Torontogamer 6h ago

that's your right, this is frankly luxury entertainment... do it how you like...

people get weird about this shit, but let people enjoy their own way

2

u/ELpEpE21 5h ago

The people deserve more frames

Let my FPS go

I'm honestly just checked out on it. I can't see how they plan it iterate enough on the formula to draw me in for another round at premium pricing.

u/Kryptosis 7h ago

I have a feeling most people aren’t even going to be able to afford the hardware needed to play it on release. There’s gonna be a bunch of people realizing their computers can’t run it and realizing they can’t upgrade right now.
