what drive me nuts is OBVIOUSLY on massive games there are going to be some roles that a project specific... once you finish the game or that part of the game we don't need you any more... this is like 95% of the movie business...

Just in the movie business they hire people ON CONTRACT FOR THE SPECIFIC PROJECT and pay them extra to make up for the benefits/freelance/uncertain nature of it...

Instead, game devs seem to prefer to hire high skilled experts for full time positions and then lay them off in a year... it's absolutely insane... unions matter people

Game dev as a whole takes advantage of people passionate about making games for a living (Which is a somewhat romanticized concept in the first place, it's still just a job) and then abuses how that results in a large population of people willing to undercut each other for their "dream job".
