That or nepotism. There's a guy at my job that does similar stupid wasteful things and he's the son of the company founder.

Yup. my roommate is this person. Literally knows nothing about anything, but knows how to talk and be confident. Went from a grocery store clerk, to manager to a director of strategy (at a diff company) lmao
