If they get surplus weapons and other equipment on a large amount they would probably modernize their uniforms and soldier armor too.

Kevlar doesn’t stop blades it just works like padding essentially

It's a reference picture.

Also there are modern armor made to stop blades and blunt force like riot police armor.

Ahh so I guess riot armor would be used a bunch then?

Depends on the situation.

They would be trained for different scenarios tha required different weapons and tatics.

Just like how sometimes you see National guard (witch are part of the military in most countries) and other military branches and units doing police duty when local law enforcement gets overwhelmed.

I’m fairly certain that PASGT, MICH, and ACH can all stop blades. There’s a big difference between soft Kevlar and a rigid kevlar helmet

I’m aware, I own both all of the above lol, Kevlar laminate and Kevlar itself is very different

They dont even need modernized armor tbh if they were the only force to be equipped with rifles en masse then 9 times out of 10 they would be fighting rebellious vassals or sword armed bandits, so like they wouldn't necessarily need kevlar if most of their actions involve fighting melee infantry

I'd think that in order to keep modern guns out of the hands of possible radicals in the region that they would supply them with bolt action rifles and bulky pre ww1 style equipment which would still give them a significant advantage over other militaries in the region without giving them the possibility of the weapons being used successfully against the Japanese
