Hear me out, because I’ve been analyzing the subtext of this show way too much and it all clicks into place if you look at the real dynamics underneath the comedy. Having recently come out myself, I think looking back at these characters through that lens completely changes how you read their entire stories.

​Smithy: I know the official script says he's straight, but his absolute, all-consuming devotion to Gavin goes miles beyond a normal bromance. The man demands total priority, obsesses over Gavin's whereabouts, and lives in a hyper-domestic codependency that screams "main event of my life." To me, Smithy is fully gay.

​Nessa: Her chaotic history with men and her massive swagger give off major queer energy. While she's had her run with blokes, she sits right on the bisexual spectrum, but her true, unshakeable emotional anchor has always been Stacy. Her love-hate relationship with Smithy reads like two people trying to force themselves into conventional boxes while hiding who they actually are.

​Bryn: Let’s talk about Bryn. His intense, hyper-focused obsession with sitting Gavin down for the ultimate route-planning session—even after Gavin had already driven up to Wales twice—highlights a level of domestic overinvestment that goes way beyond casual family care. His eccentric lifestyle, deep sensitivity, and love for domestic projects give off serious closeted or queer-coded vibes.

​Am I completely losing the plot, or do their character arcs make way more sense through this lens?

No matter how small or big, what was an error you noticed in the show? I was rewatching the episode when Nessa goes into labour and when Gavin and Rudy find Smithy in the pub, he is there watching West Ham but on the TV is a match between Weymouth and Burton Albion.

During the scene where they are all sat in Gwen's front room eating, Doris asks Gavin to help her to her front door, and there is someone that says "Thanks, Gav."

My problem is, I literally cannot work out who said it. The way Gavin turns around at that moment makes it seem like it was Stacey, but it also didn't look like she said anything, nor did it sound like her or anyone else that was in the room for that matter. It also didn't sound like anyone with a Welsh accent.

So, seriously — who in the hell actually said it? It's really bothering me.

Thought it would have been funny to see Smithy and Rudi actually perform as a band in an episode! Weirdly also always wanted to see what Pam and Mick’s conservatory looked like and see Pam getting away from the stresses and pressures of modern life

We've been re-watching the 2004 - 2013 "Marple" series & have enjoyed seeing actors we know from elsewhere, among them:

Gavin, Gavin's mate Budgie (the actor actually lives in Billaricay), Stacy, Nessa, Pam, & Uncle Bryn!

Such fun!

(Among others are a contingent from Downton Abbey, some from James Bond movies, a few from Upstairs, Downstairs, etc.)

So I just recently watched this episode again and one thing that I hadn't noticed in that scene is that as soon as Gavin gets(rightly) annoyed, Stacey immediately turns it back to herself and "what if I can't have children" line.

During the premiere episode, Gavin orders 8 ‘aftershots’ that appear as a blue drink in some kind of short tumbler glass

Does anyone know what this drink actually is? I’ve never heard of the shot or seen it served before and I was just curious about it

Currently on probably my 10th rewatch and I’ve just realised that Rudy doesn’t attend Gavin and Stacey’s wedding? She meets Stacey for the first time in Season 2 episode 2 which meant she wasn’t at the wedding.

Is this not a bit hard to believe considering her brother and Gavin are like brothers and Pam and Mick are like a second set of parents to Smithy. Mick and Pam also seem to know Rudy pretty well, surely she would’ve gotten an invite, no ?

Ok so i love all things Gavin and Stacey but one thing has alway bugged me (ok I know its not real life).

But after the one night stand, Gavin says his farewell to Stacey in London.

How on earth did he make it back to Essex in a cab, then drive to Barry Island, all in time before Daves coach got there?

Plus, how did he know where to go?? (As in drop off point).

I just started watching Gavin and Stacey last week (I have 3 episodes left), and I'm not from the UK. Is adding 'lar' to the end of someone's name a common thing? Smithy does it for a few of the other characters as well. When he calls Gavin Gavlar, it makes me think of Kevlar 😆
