How I taught my orphaned geese to fly.

My kids and I would stand in a V formation, run as hard as we could and flap our wings. It took months of flying lessons to achieve liftoff.

One day we were driving back to our house after visiting the big pond on our farm, the kids and I stuck our arms out the windows and flapped our “wings”. The geese followed- It was the first day they officially took flight.

Every morning I stand on my back porch and loudly call “la la la lei!” I close my eyes and hear their wings flap against the breeze as they fly up to the house for morning snuggles with me and to terrorize our dogs.

Sigh......

Never posted me and my mom's honkies on here, but Goku sure looked happy with his clean house. I added a little more bedding after this pic. He, Vegeta, Bulma, and ChiChi all closely monitored me as I worked. Bonus pic of them all doing the snakeneck at me.

Man i love them so much fr they are just the bestest guys. But sometimes they are a bit Naughty they almost ate every zucchini plant that my mother had planted this year.
So you guys hide all your zucchini from them.

They’ve gotten very territorial in the last week or so (they’re around 13 weeks old now, been with me for 12 of those weeks). People in the neighbourhood got used to dropping by and if they crouched down the geese would come up to them, and for those brave enough, they’d nibble on one hand while they petted them with the other. I haven’t heard them hiss yet, but when anyone not in our family comes by, they lower their heads and charge at them making a heck of a racket!! It’s funny when some people think they are running to them because they like them, then they get their shoes attacked, which is fine - it’s just the noise that I worry might bother the neighbours, but so far everyone I’ve asked said they love a them and prefer their honks to the city sounds.

We have a few tree squirrels (all named “Alvin” by my wife) which come by for peanuts. I’m ALWAYS finding a bunch of peanuts when I re-pot my outdoor plants - I guess it’s easier for them to bury them in the loose potting soil rather than trying to break through sod/hard pack 😂. Well, the geese have decided that all the Alvins are our enemies and chase them off our property!! The have to get their peanuts by climbing up the other side of the roof, then sneaking down to the stoop outside of the view of the geese. I tell the geese to stop and that they are our friends; I even give them a splash with the hose, but they are dedicated protectors!!

Or a cream? Should I seek medical care?

this is my female sitting on top of my male, which i have never seen them do before. this is their first time in this new pool, which is slightly deeper than their old one, so i thought maybe she was using him as a sort of flotation device? i got her off of him because he was struggling, and hoping she won’t do it again while i’m not around. google says she’s asserting dominance but i’m skeptical. does anyone know what this behavior is?

2nd time seeing a goose like this but if I remember correctly it’s not an illness just color mutation

Spotted this goose today, they don’t look like they’re doing too well. Doesn’t seem to be able to control or close their beak. Tongue possibly swollen or beak injury(?)
Worried about avian flu. Just wondering if anyone has any insight or has experienced anything similar to this.

We have a multifamily gaggle that lives at a pond nearby. They come to drink water and eat fallen seed from our bird feeder almost daily.
