/r/gpu basic rules

As one member pointed out it would be nice to have some basic rules in place. I'm going to put this post up for a while if anyone has any additional feedback

Rules

  1. No buying/selling ads or requests. We'll update the sidebar to point people to r/hardwareswap and/or any other relevant community for those activities. All posts falling under this rule would simply be removed.
  2. Harassment of others is strictly forbidden.
  3. No affiliate/referral links or codes.

Is Amd driver really unreliable??

Post image

In my previous post in this community, I posted about the RTX 5070 vs. 9070 XT, and most people said that the 9070 XT is better in terms of gaming performance, and I absolutely agree with that. However, there were many people who said that AMD sucks at drivers and I’ve seen many Reddit and Twitter posts regarding this issue. Is this really a problem or is it just a myth?

Is it bad if you’re romantically attracted to your GPU?

I have an RX 7600 OC, and every time I look at its fans and heatsink, I swear I feel like I’m in love.

😭 I would gnly marry this GPU and live happily ever after.

Upgrade from 3060ti

I’m a casual oldish gamer and built a new pc except for gpu (I’m still using my 3060ti from before). Half the time I use the tv for Nightreign or Resident Evil. Any suggestions for a good basic upgrade from 3060 ti for Ray tracing? Appreciate any advice.

Anyone else hate FSR 3?

I notice on basically every game that I try to use FSR 3 that the quality just turns into a washed out smudgy mess, the ghosting and shimmering is also pretty rough. If I do quality/native mode it’s a little better though. Is FSR 4 any better? Is DLSS far superior?

$610 for a 9070xt in this market - Good buy ?

Just bought an open-box ASRock Challenger RX 9070 XT on eBay for $610. The market so cooked rn that I thought AMD prices were gonna start hitting Nvidia lvls😭

Good buy?

Good luck in these dire times. I hope this purchase ages terribly 🙏

I'm scared to update my nvidia graphic card drivers.

Hello, I'm running 566.36 driver on a 4060 card, never had any issues but now, i'm playing baldurs gate 3 and the detailed character textures takes like 2 seconds to load once I enter the dialogue, I wonder if updating the driver can fix that but i'm scared doing it and find new issues like blue/black screen and crashes, is there any stable version ahead of this one for the 40 series?

Is NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB compatible with HP Z800 Workstation (Dual Xeon X5660) for Video Editing & Motion Graphics?

Hi everyone,

I am planning to upgrade the graphics card on my HP Z800 Workstation to eliminate severe performance lags during heavy 2D/3D graphic design, Premiere Pro 4K timeline scrubbing, and After Effects rendering. I want to confirm hardware, power, and BIOS compatibility before making the purchase.

Here are my current system specifications:

  • Workstation Model: HP Z800 (Revision 2 Motherboard)
  • Processors: Dual Intel Xeon X5660 (2.80 GHz)
  • RAM: 48GB DDR3 ECC
  • Current GPU: NVIDIA Quadro K2200
  • Target GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB

My specific questions:

  1. Will the RTX 3060 12GB boot properly on the HP Z800 Legacy BIOS, or does it require strict UEFI support to pass POST?
  2. Are there any known power connection or pin adapter requirements to power an 8-pin PCIe card using the stock Z800 PSU connectors?
  3. Will the legacy BIOS setup allow CUDA acceleration and NVIDIA Studio Drivers to function properly within Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects without driver crashes?
  4. Has anyone run an RTX 3000-series card on a Z800 without encountering display issues or 6-beep POST errors?

Any feedback or real-world experience regarding this setup would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
