Hi everyone,
I am planning to upgrade the graphics card on my HP Z800 Workstation to eliminate severe performance lags during heavy 2D/3D graphic design, Premiere Pro 4K timeline scrubbing, and After Effects rendering. I want to confirm hardware, power, and BIOS compatibility before making the purchase.
Here are my current system specifications:
- Workstation Model: HP Z800 (Revision 2 Motherboard)
- Processors: Dual Intel Xeon X5660 (2.80 GHz)
- RAM: 48GB DDR3 ECC
- Current GPU: NVIDIA Quadro K2200
- Target GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB
My specific questions:
- Will the RTX 3060 12GB boot properly on the HP Z800 Legacy BIOS, or does it require strict UEFI support to pass POST?
- Are there any known power connection or pin adapter requirements to power an 8-pin PCIe card using the stock Z800 PSU connectors?
- Will the legacy BIOS setup allow CUDA acceleration and NVIDIA Studio Drivers to function properly within Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects without driver crashes?
- Has anyone run an RTX 3000-series card on a Z800 without encountering display issues or 6-beep POST errors?
Any feedback or real-world experience regarding this setup would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
