The storm came while I was at the North Rim general store-- definitely lucked out. Didn't really comprehend how bad it was while descending the rim until I saw the helipad in pieces and no bridge to cross at Manzanita.

Grand Canyon leadership did a press conference Monday night. On the question of water supply:

• South Rim currently has approximately two weeks of water storage
• The actual timeline depends on daily consumption by residents and visitors
• Leadership is conducting daily evaluations of usage rates to determine if additional conservation measures needed
• Environmental regulations prohibit transporting water in from outside sources
• The 40% of damage to the old water pipeline is equal to about 5 miles

The park is also staging temporary water tanks throughout the village as a dedicated firefighting reserve to ensure emergency response capacity remains intact.

My partner and I are heading to the South Rim in two days. We're staying outside the park at the Grand Canyon Hotel & Suites in Tusayan. Given the water restrictions at the park, we're planning on driving in with our hydration backpacks and water bottles filled up, along with leaving some additional water gallons in the car. We aren't planning on going deep into the canyon--just doing Ooh Aah Point on South Kaibab and then maybe going to the 1.5 Mile Resthouse on Bright Angel. Otherwise, we're going to walk on the Rim Trail to catch the sights.

Given all that, I think we should be good to visit, but I want to check if we should make any contingency plans or adjust our itinerary in any way.

Took these photos looking east on the rim trail between Yavapai and Mather point. cropped to get a better idea of the bird's silhouette. Is this an immature California Condor, a Turkey Vulture, Raven, or Zone-Tailed Hawk? All photos are taken from above. Taken from quite a distance, the bird was barely flapping at all, and looked very stable so I was leaning toward it being a condor. Gemini said it was a Condor but I don't trust the clankers. what do you guys think?

Hello is anyone traveling from Zion to south rim today, tomorrow or Thursday? My husband left his coat for a wedding at a hotel in Springdale and we are looking to see if someone could potentially get it and bring it with them.

With the terrible flood damage, is hiking the south rim still a possibility this coming Thursday?

Hey everyone,

I'm supposed to be coming to the Grand Canyon and staying at Yavapai Lodge toward the end of September. I know about the flooding, water restrictions, and the tragedy of people still missing but I'm not sure what to do about my accommodation.

I gather it's possible that things might be back to normal. I also see that for the moment the company behind Yavapai Lodge are accommodating people in Tusayan automatically. Is that likely to still be the case - automatically just moving people there? Or should I make my own arrangements and plan to just do day visits to the park do you think?
