Gretsch Fetch

Found a project 1965 Corvette Gretsch body sitting in Goodwill two days ago. Next to it was a bag of parts. Here is a rough layout.

These are great guitars when set up properly. Really lovely to play and what a nice find. Please save it or get it to someone who will if you can’t restore it.

Nice find! I found a 65 husk with no parts on ebay a few years ago for cheap. Went with single filtertron and bigsby. Love the thick clubby neck.

I pulled off the old masking tape on the finger board and cleaned up the sticky residue.

I am confused why they painted the body and the back of the mahogany neck. The green/gray paint or primer is rough.

Can you tell if they primered over the original finish? Might be able to remove the primer if so.

I will check that out. I tested the back of neck with a Q-Tip and it is nice bare mahogany.

So what's your plans for that paint, if it's not a good finish?

Tested using Citrus based stripper. Nice grain mahogany underneath. Plan on sanding with fine grit and using some form of Dartford's dye.

You can't always get what you want,
So long, my favorite color Cherry red.

The GRETSCH branded B5 Bigsby is really cool.
