Question Bears Will Be Bears?

Is there any in show reason why they mother is the only one able to turns into a full bear and everyone else are part animal?

The Doylist answer is that it was early in the show and they hadn't decided that wasn't how wesen worked yet

My headcanon is that they were doing a ritual thing, hence the hunt and if wesen lean too much into their animal side they risk turning fully into an animal. So her during the bearwesen ritual let her go full bear

Cause no other wesen was in the middle of their Roh-hatz at the time and thus not embracing their ancient/animal side

That was Season 1 episode 2, I think it's safe to say that they were still deciding how things would work & decided against full transformations as too much trouble after this episode.

The real answer is it was the second episode they ever made of Grimm, so they hadn’t yet agreed on how wogeing works (and the first one just had wolves and a certain undead magic lady in it)

The real answer is probably they saw how utterly RIDICULOUS that was and backtracked on Wesen actually turning fully into an animal! It would be hard enough on the body to voge. Turning into a 400 pound bear would be absolute HELL! I’m SO GLAD they decided that was a bug and not a feature lol.

It could be like in teen wolf how Derek mama was the only one who could turn into an actual wolf only certain people can do it not all just like malia could turn into a a full coyote.
