this even worse given that Cyrillic uses mostly Greek letters 😭 sigma as e strikes again but mu as и is new

Both Latin and Cyrillic used Greek as a base.

It looks a little like the cursive и. If you squint. Also looks like the cursive м so 🤷‍♂️

Well... if we remove the line on the left it's close to the cursive "и", and I can actually see "и" here based on context. But it's beyond me why they didn't use "u" instead. This line on the left looks out of place when "μ" is used as "и"..

No, in Russian cursive "и" actually looks somewhat similar to "μ".

Well, Cyrillic alphabet was derived from Greek, do it's kind of an interesting idea
