Another R35 question🚨
To those that own a CBA/DBA R35 GT-R. Is there a way to keep a stock look with the infotainment setup while adding an Apple car play upgrade for maps and music? Curious how you guys like it, not a huge fan of the big vertical screen setups. Great design, not for me.

I have the Gromaudio vl2 in my 15. Wireless CarPlay works fine for me. Keep in mind, almost nothing aftermarket is gonna be as good oem.

I went through this quest when I had my DBA car. I ended up just using the proclip phone mount that kinda sits next to the OEM screen. It's pretty clean looking, and easily accessible. I use it for maps and BT stream music.

That’s a very nice setup, you do lose the physical switches tho for R mode. I feel like that’s a big part of the R35’s personality

The Bluetooth on my 2013 is pretty turdy - I’m certain the 2015 MY info update would improve it somewhat, but it gets rid of screens A-G on the console 🚽💀 so no thanks.Â
Personally I connect Bluetooth for phone functionality but just plug it into the USB jack in the center box for music, which works silky smooth. For maps, I just listen to the voice instructions lol.Â

This is my ideal- moving the climate control down to the bottom and replacing it with a CarPlay screen for maps etc

Unfortunately not mine, but it’s what I plan to do
The Pioneer and Alpine units fit well and from what I’ve read it’s pretty easy to fab up a unit to hold the headunitThere’s also some Chinese units on Alibaba that have the climate control function inbuilt but unsure of their reliability

Appreciate the responses! I figured a phone mount might be the move. Do the older models have the cigarette lighter where you can plug the usb ports into?

How much are you ok spending? I had it done in my 2015. I ordered this (link below) and then took it to a shop and had it installed along with upgrading all of the speakers and amps and it works great…

That looks like a stock setup! You still get the original gauges and readings on the screen too?

It’s hard to say because I did the whole system and it was a little over $5k. That said, the unit in the link I sent you was roughly $900 after tax and shipping and if I had to guess, it was probably about $750 to get it installed locally (I’m in SoCal).
Yep, everything is basically stock, including all of the readings and diagnostics you’re used it but it just switches over to CarPlay and you have all of that functionality as well b

Pretty sure I saw something similar to that on YouTube. Might be that exact screen but you push a physical back button the the infotainment and it swaps back and forth from car play to the regular car computer readings

This one you press the source button 3 times quickly. It is hard to get out of CarPlay though. Maybe it’s me and I didn’t listen on that part but once I’m using it I rarely need to get out of CarPlay and when I’ve needed to I was able to figure it out but that would be the only negative I have about it. Overall, I highly recommend.

My opinion, after living with a ‘14 stock infotainment for years, is to just run Bluetooth with a phone mount and have your vehicle sensors pulled up on the center console. The readout is unique to the R35 and part of the appeal of ownership I find.
