Storage Advice
I just bought a semi automatic rifle and now I need to store it. However, I don't have the money, nor the trunk space, nor the room in my house to fit a gun safe. I don't want to use my dad's safe because it's downstairs in the basement in a small corner buried in other crap he just has lying around, and makes it inaccessible for any defense situation, since our rooms are all on the second floor. What should I do? How else can I safely store my rifle without letting someone like visiting family or my sister's friends from accessing my rifle, while still giving me quick access? I live in Wisconsin, so gun storage laws are a little less strict. I also want to keep it in my room, since I have a large dresser and a small closet that I could use.

You can get the locks used in cop cars to hold long guns. They sell as surplus for like 20 bucks on Ebay, etc. You can power it with a 12v switch,which gives you amy number of cool secret switches or remote ways to open it, or you can use the key backup. Some have a unique key, some just use a plain handcuff key.
Run wires to cool controller, bolt to studs with lag screws, done.

Honestly this is the move OP!! I do lv electric work, and it would be so easy to make a hidden switch you could put under your bed frame so you can roll off the bed lay down prone behind the bed and hit the unlock switch (I thought about this a little)

Trigger lock or similar. Yea, it's not tactical and there will be several steps you'll have to take to unlock your rifle but you want it to be safe, that is your option. Everything else is just hiding it and hoping no one finds it.

I ended up just buying a plano case and an ammo can. I'll put a lock on the case and keep the ammunition in a different place. If someone really has the intention of stealing a firearm, they will. I just need to make sure that no family member or friends of family members will access it. Also, it protects the gun a bit more than a rack. Since I don't have a dedicated armory, I'll put the case in my closet, and I'll find a place for the ammunition soon.

Under mattress, under your pillows, in the closet wrapped in a shirt. If visitors find it in any of these places you got bigger problems

Just to clarify, it's a full length rifle, so it won't fit the first two. the shirts might work, but my parents would not approve.

Well, it's not exactly a large bed for an adult, and sleeping with a big bulge in the middle of my old box spring mattress wouldn't be comfortable. I also only have one pillow, and since i sleep on my side, that would absolutely mess up my neck.

I have a pile of these because gun stores in NY are "required by law" to include one with any purchase of a firearm. I also have like, 4 safes, so you'll never catch me using one.

Hadn't really thought about it, but my last few purchases have been stripped lowers, and didn't include any. Wonder what NY would think of that...

As far as I know, NY doesn't care, you just have to fill out a 4473. That said, I've never bought a stripped lower, and even if I did NY's bullshit laws don't really apply to me since I got a job in law enforcement almost entirely to circumvent them (which is exactly as stupid as it sounds).

Put a locking door knob on the door
