Hi, all! Happy Halloween season. I’ve been a scare actor for 6 years and, I can’t believe I’m typing this, I think I’m burning out? I worked at a large amusement park attraction for 3 years in college, and after moving, now work at a smaller high-quality haunt in a more rural area. This’ll be my 3rd season here, and I’ve never really felt like I’ve connected at the same level as my previous haunt.

I LOVED the environment when I was at the park. I could roam around the streets, get creative, and do as much improv as I wanted in a huge space. We would see 30,000+ people a night. I made so many friends around the same age. I have a lot of fond and meaningful memories from my time there.

After moving (military spouse), I felt so fortunate to have a haunt 5 minutes from my new home. I thought it was gonna be the most awesome thing ever. And yeah, it’s been fine. But the cast is much smaller, the crowds are nowhere near the same PLANET that the amusement park was on, and management leaves a lot to be desired. I’m one of the older actors there and it’s very awkward to try and interact with teen actors. Makes me feel weird and doesn’t allow me to make as many friends.

I dunno. Between management sticking me in drop panels, in stationary rooms, etc., working with minors, difficult personalities to contend with, I find myself dreading this season more than celebrating it. And I don’t want to be a diva, but I won actor of the year out of the entire amusement park cast, and here I feel overlooked and disregarded, and other, weaker actors get better positions and placements simply because they’re friends/family of management.

How do I know if it’s time to hang it up and maybe find a new Fall hobby? I’m very conflicted.

I’ve loved Halloween my whole life, and with my birthday right before Halloween, it’s always been my favorite time of year. I’ve been to pretty much every haunted attraction in and around Winnipeg, so this year I’m hoping to find somewhere new to explore.
I don’t mind turning it into a mini road trip and would be willing to drive about 6–7 hours if it’s worth it. Does anyone know of any haunted houses, haunted attractions, spooky events, or Halloween destinations that are a must-see? I’d love to hear your recommendations!

This is my first year as a scare actor and I’ve been assigned to a cemetery/zombie area. I, myself, do not think I’m scary at all but I wanted to try something new and make some extra money. I know we aren’t really supposed to talk but I don’t know how to get down the moaning/groaning/screeching noises. Any help or tips with that and also be scary/creepy in general?? I’m a 5’3 woman so I can’t really use my size to be intimidating and I’m kinda clumsy so I don’t think moving super fast will be my type of thing either 😂

I want to find something to do around me (I live in Murrieta) with friends this Halloween season. We don't want to do any of the "knotts scary farm, horror nights, etc" because last year the lines were so long it just wasn't worth it. I am willing to go down as far as San Diego, I'd rather not go to LA. Any suggestions?

Recommending this great general-purpose Halloween music for when you have guests waiting in line, or a snacks/games area, or marketplace, etc. Most haunts I go to have background music but it's the same predictable “I-guess-this-is-what-people-play-for-Halloween?” stuff (which can be fine) while most of the Halloween music on these playlists goes unheard :-( . A few neighborhood haunts near me play this now for people waiting and it's been a huge hit. The main “Halloween Music For All” playlist is really what I'm talking about but the others on their profile are great for their respective theme. Support spooky artists and Happy Haunting season!

I go to as many haunts a year as I can and I have a lot of fun! One of my favorite seasonal activities by far. However, I don't really go to be scared, I go because I like the experience and I admire the craftsmanship behind them.

I‘ve heard some scare actors say that they don’t like when people come to haunts but aren’t scared. I’m not sure if they just mean they don’t like when people are stone faced or seem uninterested, or if they mean that any non-fear reaction is disappointing or disrespectful. Should I pretend to be scared at haunted houses even if I’m not? I know that scare actors work very hard, and I wanna be a fun person for them to scare and interact with.

Hey all — I produce a Halloween weekend called Project Shh, a fully immersive murder mystery experience built around real haunted historic locations and documented dark history. Think true crime documentary meets live escape room, except guests don't know they're in it.

We're in our fifth year. This October we're at the 1880 Union Hotel in Los Alamos, CA — a genuine 1880s stagecoach stop with a real serial killer in its history and actual ghost sightings on record. Story infrastructure is built. I need someone to sharpen the narrative beats, punch up character moments, and help the clue architecture land cleanly under the pressure of a live weekend.

Scope is focused — probably 10–15 hours between now and late October. Budget is modest ($500 flat), this is a passion project not a studio production. But the subject matter is genuinely interesting, the event is legitimately scary, and the long-term goal is licensing this format to historic venues globally.

hello guys, i have my scream training at tulleys on the 13th of september and i really want to get in however there is about 450 of us and they need to get rid of about 50 - 150 of us. i have passed the first round which seems more competitive i think. so basically i need any tips to get through and get offered the job so if you have any experience in this field or have done some similar or know someone who has done the audition process for tulleys please give me any tips i would really appreciate it.

I just did a county fair summer haunt thing over the weekend. I was walking around the fair in costume with a fellow actor, passing out flyers. He was dressed as Art the Clown, and I had a "butcheresc" outfit with bloody overalls and a silicon half pig / half human mask. I understand that guys are creeps towards female actors. But I did not expect to be hit on so many times as an overweight male actor. I get more people to come up to me in character than I have ever in street clothes. I was using a fake cow prod (zombie zapper, Scare Innovations), and the sheer number of people who wanted to be tased floored me. All the ladies were also hunting down Art. Had a dude bend over and twerk on me! Do any other actors have crazy stories about what their costume does to people?

So to preface this, it’ll be a while before I’m actually in college, and I probably won’t be taking an off-campus job until after Freshman year. However, I’m curious. If I wanted to act at, say, Frightfest, what would be some struggles that I’d have to work around?

Also, if an amusement park doesn’t work out (my nearest amusement park is over half an hour away from the college I want to attend the most), how hard would it be to find local haunted houses I can participate in? Though that is probably less likely to pay much, a local haunt sounds more like just a fun activity than a full job. Overall I’m not really in this to pay off stuff (I’ll need a more “normal” job for that probably, one that runs all year), I just think it sounds fun.
