Before we begin, let us remember that all is said in the spirit of discussion and born of love for this media. I do not bear any hatred for Jun Maeda or any human parties associated; I merely wish to discuss one of its most glaring issues in good fairness and faith.

Please remember the humanity of everyone here. Also, there will be spoilers. Thank you.

Now, I will be frank. I believe that the existence of the summer event “Thou Art This Summer’s Fairy, A Sight I Shall Record in My Eyes” is simply an affront to the intelligence of the readers, the characters, and to the rest of Jun Maeda’s repertoire of stories.

For those who require a quick refresher, This Summer’s Fairy takes place sometime after Chapter 3 and involves Squad 31-A and Shirakawa traveling back in time to a coastal resort that was destroyed during their opening season by the budding threat of the Cancers. After finding their bearings, they resolve to attempt to change history and save the hotel. The group go through a few various resort activities, the meme “Recording with our eyes” is established, they kill a few Cancers, Kayamori has the option to sexually harass Shirakawa (i.e., fondle her breasts under the guise of washing), and the team returns to the future where they A: learn that the reason they were able to time travel was due to experimental military technology being incorporated into swimsuits they had tried on and B: find that the hotel was successfully saved during their opening season, but was later destroyed by the growing Cancer threat. Upon learning this, Shirakawa attempts to use the experimental military swimsuit to go back in time and save Kura. Upon failing several times, she concludes that the world itself will conspire to “correct the timeline” and undo anything she tries to do, much like how the hotel was still destroyed in the end.

You will notice that I did not describe how she failed. This is because Shirakawa suffers immensely from something I will whimsically name “Writer’s Whoopsie Gravy”; that is to say, she suffers from an unforgivable degree of idiocy that is borderline required to achieve the ending Jun Maeda has written. Let us go through every single attempt shown to us.

Loop 1: She asks Kura to not attend the Flat Hand operation. It is implied that she later reneges on her agreement and thus perishes.

The problem with this approach is that Time-Traveling Shirakawa (TTS for short) is only present for one verbal promise. Past Shirakawa has no idea about TTS’s promise and it is highly plausible that it is Past Shirakawa herself that asks Kura to break the promise that “she” made and attend the operation.

Loop 2: She intercepts Tsukishiro and Kura on their way to help 31-A at Aegis Tower and predicts that “Someone is going to die.” Both Tsukishiro and Kura completely brush her off with a frankly baffling callousness. Shirawaka resolves to jump to the point at which Squad 31-A does battle with the Flat Hand to attempt to strike it down herself.

Other than a strange disregard for the most blatant death prophecy I’ve ever heard, this loop is fine.

Loop 3: Shirakawa begins at the very base of Aegis Tower and slowly, painfully, ascends to the top, chasing after Squad 31-A while killing any errant Cancers they missed. By the time she reaches the top, she has thoroughly tired herself out physically and mentally. In the fight against the Flat Hand, she is unable to deal with the space-warping power. Shirakawa is unable to continue the battle and Kura dies. At Kura’s funeral, Shirakawa concludes that “The end result cannot be changed” by time travel, and the only thing that can be done is “alter the chain of events that led to it.”

This is genuinely a chain of some of the stupidest events that could have transpired. 

Firstly, I have no idea why Shirakawa would choose to appear at the bottom of Aegis Tower when she knows where the battle took place (this is an assumption, but a VERY SAFE assumption given that she knows to climb the tower, knows the specifics of the Flat Hand’s powers, implying she read a battle report which would include location, and knows the exact events that led to Kura’s death). Earlier she was shown to have appeared in a forest path that she had previously never been to, perfectly intercepting Tsukishiro and Kura. But now she cannot teleport to the top of a tower that she has, in all likelihood, visited or seen via photograph? 

Secondly, what exactly defines “the end result” anyway? To Shirakawa, the end result is Kura’s death, and she was indeed unable to change it. But isn’t that entirely arbitrary? Let’s say I want the “end result” to now be that “there were more people present at Aegis Tower than the original eight (Squad 31-A plus Tsukishiro and Kura).” Now, just by Shirakawa appearing there, the end result was fulfilled. But let’s be realistic. What if “the end result” is just another way of saying “death”? Well, look no further than the hotel, whose inhabitant’s lives were spared for at least a couple months longer. Just because they probably died later proves nothing, because at that point, Squad 31-A and Shirakawa had already returned to their original time. 

This conclusion can be likened to the following scenario: I travel back in time to 1900 to save my grandfather’s life from tuberculosis with modern technology, but when he dies five years later in a train accident, I think “Damn, I guess I never managed to change anything at all.” Truly, this is one of the most nonsensical conclusions Shirakawa could have possibly come to.

“Oh, but people’s memories of time traveling are gradually erased!” Yes, but to what extent? If someone wears the time-travel swimsuits long-term, they seem to be able to retain their memory well enough. What if written records are made? Will they be erased? In any case, at least one valid instance of memory retention has been proven. It is only because the writing demanded it be so that humanity has not begun abusing time travel. It’s as though humanity was suffering through a famine, and the first person to discover a new miracle food source just so happened to get food poisoning the day they tried it and thus declared the new food unfit for consumption for all humanity. It is infuriating to see. 

All of this is to say that the military has mature and functioning time-travel technology that no one reported and was, at the end of This Summer’s Fairy, confiscated and essentially never brought back up. Which is to say that the military has the ability to abuse time-travel if they so wish, but this possibility was never explored and abandoned in favor of a terribly thought out conclusion to give Shirakawa some shallow form of closure with Kura. This is not Chekov’s Gun; this is Chekov’s Orbital Laser, and its mere existence causes HBR’s story to fall apart. If it isn’t used, it’s a ridiculous waste of a miraculous resource. If it is used, it ruins any sort of stakes in the plot.

MAYBE when I first started playing 1yr+ ago. But I've always had miscellaneous things cluttering my box waiting to be claimed.

Makes me feel kinda... empty.

We get 2 SSR shards from premium pass per month if you are paying.

We get 4 SSR shards from the season token which I believe is suppose to last 2 month so it a average of 2 SSR shards per month.

We have the convert shard points thing that we can get 5 SSR shards for 500 points each which isn't that easy to get all 5 every month.

I check JP most recent events and they don't give SSR shards.

As far as I can tell there is no other way to get more SSR shards and they didn't seem to add anymore way to get SSR shards in JP.

The amount of SSR shards we get is insanely slow.

I hate SSR so much getting SS shards in comparison is a joke and that wasn't a walk in a park to gather either.

I really hope there will be more way to get more in the future.
