Bad Infinity

Is bad infinity the endless oscillation between in itself and for itself without reaching in and for itself? Or is this oscillation something else? (Or not logically possible)

spirit cannot be in itself and not for itself, spirit is only in itself when it is for itself. bad infinity is the finite repeated endlessly, when being-for-itself is not manifested

First, what is meant by "in and for itself."

In-itself means that which has properties but isn't a property of something else.

For-itself means that which has properties without opposition.

This is inconceivable to us in the same way as pleasure is not pain.

In the same way, the infinite is only conceivable in terms of the finite (negation and opposition).

This knowledge brings the infinite down to earth and raises the earth into the heavens.

Hopefully, this can contain the monstrous consuming beast.

It doesn't. Incipit Zarathustra.

Precisely, for Hegel, bad infinity is the middle term between being-in-itself and being-for-itself, while oscillation is more than a Fichtean analogy.
For Hegel, infinity doesn’t mean the being moves beyond the limit, but means that the limitation define itself as limitation, and thus get rid of external limitation. However, bad infinity never defines itself, it moves beyond the limit, and then a new limit is set. Bad infinity cannot realize that it is its movement that defines limit, but holds that there is an external power setting an eternal and unreachable limit for it. If it realizes the truth and recognizes its self-definition, it becomes being-for-itself, while being-in-itself means that it doesn’t recognize its movement. So bad infinity can be seen as a middle term from the perspective of self-knowledge.

it is not the oscillation betwenn the in itself and for itself. Not sure where you're getting that from. It's the oscillation between the finite and the bad infinity.
