Welcome to the War Room. Here you will find trustworthy military advisors to guide your diplomacy, battles, and internal affairs.
This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the noble generals of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your save, then you've found the right place!
Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (strategic, diplomacy, factions, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.
Reconnaissance Report:
Below is a preliminary reconnaissance report. It is comprised of a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!
Note: this thread is very new and is therefore very barebones - please suggest some helpful links to populate the below sections
If you have any useful resources not currently in the Reconnaissance Report, please share them with me and I'll add them! You can message me or mention my username in a comment by typing /u/Kloiper
Calling all generals!
As this thread is very new, we are in dire need of guides to fill out the Reconnaissance Report, both general and specific! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, consider contributing to the Hoi4 wiki, which needs help as well. Anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.
Why after taking the showa restoration following Kodoha faction focus tree Japan changes name to "the shogunate of japan" doesn't that make absolutely zero sense? Weren't the kodoha faction all about worshiping the meji restoration why would they want to return to a shogunate or even have the option to? It seems absolutely contrary to what they actually wanted which was a powerful emperor not a shogunate.
Hello there! Welcome to the next Dev Corner, where we might present something we’re working on or gauging people’s thoughts on mechanics and other things.
Those of you who have been keeping up with our Trailers, Teasers, and Dev Corners have probably figured out that we’re working on something new, and I’m here to make you folks spill the beans on what you think of certain new additions to the game, and see what we can improve to make them more engaging.
Cutting straight to the point, I’m curious what you think about Germany’s Inner Circle and Japan’s Imperial Influence: what do you like, what do you dislike, and what do you feel is missing from either system?
And apropos noooothing in particular, what do you guys think about the American Congress System? It’s great as is, right? Oooooor would you maybe like a rework of that?
And now a sneak peek into a very much WORK IN PROGRESS thing we’re fiddling around with;

As always, this has been cross posted onto the Paradox Forum as well, and we'd highly recommend that you consider taking some time to read the comment section there as well!
I believe Air XP needs to be fixed badly. Unlikes Land and Naval XP for divisions template and ship design. Once you have unlocked the air doctrine tree and sprint. You barely need any more. Planes design requires very few XP that makes no difference. So you are swarmed with it even before the mid game.
My suggestion: make plane designs more expensive also make some air tech can be speed up by spending XP. Thought?
Did my first game as Albania, it was horrible but here it is. Never had more than 24 divs, no tanks, no airforce, and almost no ships. Only mountaineers carried.
I like the byzantine look tho
I had to go through hell to unify this shit. Credits to my Close air support Planes and the Generic Tree btw. They were TOO helpful during this run, now the hardest part is gonna be fixing this shit of a country by reorganizing
Because they sure seem to fold a lot in this game. I didn't even do a thing to convince Yugoslavia to give up land, yet they caved to both sets of demands on two runs in a row. (Kinda annoying since I wanted to carve them up with Bulgaria...)
I have around 3,000 hours in HOI4, although pretty much all of them are in single player.
I'm looking for people who just want to play casually and have fun with the game, without having to worry about someone with thousands of hours of MP experience joining just to crush everyone.
New players are welcome to join too. I can help explain what I know and show you how things work. I understand HOI4 can be pretty confusing when you're just starting out.
I'm also open to playing mods. I've played Old World Blues, The Fire Rises, Kaiserreich and a few others. If there's a mod you've been wanting to play, feel free to suggest it. I'd be down to give it a try.
If you're interested, my discord username is gerby1985
Has anyone had any experience of playing as the Soviets or Germans and having Stalin captured in his deployed HQ attached to the Army? What happens to the Soviet Union leader portrait if Stalin is sent back to Germany?
Ive always wanted to play this mod but never got around to making it work.
My setup is a Ryzen 5 4500, a GTX 1070ti and some NVME i cant remember the name of, all while running arch on a custom kernel though i doubt thats the problem as this was happening on windows as well (a really good while back). Im running the 1.17.5.2 version of the game but ive also tried 1.17.3.0 where the same thing happens.
The game crashes this way very consistently regardless of country or really anything else, i have nothing but the base mod in the playset.
Is my PC just not good enough for this mod or is there something else? It handles my main 50 mod playset at a playable 40 FPS, about 80-100 with just europe.
I ask this question because I wonder what paradox’s plan for the generic focus tree is in the long run. It doesn’t seem like they’re done milking this cash cow. I see focus trees for Bolivia, Peru, Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia, and Albania in the future. Venezuela is 50-50.
Paradox has given us two alternative generic focus trees: the Chinese warlord and Horn of Africa trees. I wonder if paradox will ever decide to ditch the OG generic focus tree and give all the middle eastern minors a regional generic focus tree, same for Central America.
