There was recently pretty bad fire in my home. I noticed this was recently installed, and it’s facing right towards my house.

Is this at all fine work for radon exhaust tubing?

Hired a company to encapsulate my crawl space. My county requires radon mitigation if you encapsulate, which seemed to be a requirement the company doesn’t usually have to deal with in the county they’re based in. This is the work they did. I can’t find a single example of the radon exhaust coming out of the foundation like this. Usually it’s inconspicuous up to the top of the house. This protrudes so far and looks terrible!

Edit: Spoke to the Ops manager. They didn't communicate to me that the work wasn't done so I assumed it was. It's not done, they need to install the fan and he said he'll hire a mason to fix up the ugly masonry work done. In his words he said his tech did a horrible job. Manager said if the inspector tomorrow wants the venting to go to the roof, then they'll go to the roof. I'm hoping the pipe can be shortened, and they can put in a S connector piece or whatever to bring the tubing near the white gutter and then the radon vent can just inconspicuously ride up alongside the gutter and look pretty normal.

Cleaning concrete

What could I use that’s animal safe to clean what I think is grease/oil & rust off the concrete. The patio is really nice at our new house but I’d like to clean up the little bit of mess that remains. Picture of George for size comparison. Ran out of bananas.

My roommates and I are confused about these holes noticed recently. One is a perfect circle others, not. No signs of mice or bugs inside by anyone and the holes do not go all the way through. Not sure if this is the right reddit page to post, but any input or a redirection is welcome!

Does anybody know why this would happen?

Toured a townhome today and noticed some roaches around. We found this vent full of detritus, worms, and roaches. Does anyone know how the worms would be getting into the vent? We did just have a big storm the night before.

Garage Floor Cracks, worth worrying about?

Thumbnail

My wife and I are considering buying a home, when looking at the house, we saw these cracks on the garage floor. Looking into it, I've already seen plenty of the "only two types of concrete" mantra. I didn't think these were cause for big concern, but don't know enough about concrete to be sure. They run the full length of the garage floor, it looks a little worse at the front (second and third picture). There's nothing else above the garage, or below it. The house is in the US Midwest for context.

Should I be worried about these? Or are they nothing?

Random fish like odor

Hi, im writing cause when I went into my room today after being out, it smelled weirdly like fish. I googled, and many people said it could be a malfunctioning outlet - but the smell is coming from underneath a tall shelf i have - which is nowhere near any outlets in my room, plus, there was nothing underneath. My cat had caught a mouse and eaten it in my room a few night ago without me realizing it, and im hoæinh it's just that? Tho when I found the head of the mouse, it wasn't near the shelf either. Im a little scared of what it could be, does anyone have any ideas?

Didn't notice spilled tequila on wooden floor for 20 mins

Post image

Hello guys,

I had just switched off the vacuum cleaner and then this happened..

I had 3 tequila bottles in a bag, bottles fell down while still being in the bag, I went to take a shower, didn't notice one of them got broken. Even though bag is a sturdy canvas, liquid leaked through the bag. I wiped up with a fibre towel and paper the floor, it's been 1 hour and you can just tell that the wood is bent, so bummed out.

May I kindly ask is there any solution for the bending? It's so annoying to even look at the floor, and it's obvious uneven when I step on it. Any help will be much appreciated 🙏

I noticed about 5-6 of these in the ground of the east side of my front yard. About 2-3 inches wide. There are no other spots that have these

99 year old home has these crystal doorknobs and one by one they are coming apart on the crystal side. The other side has a screw that insets into holes on the rod. The crystal side does not have the same thing. Seems stripped and the knob pulls right off. Any ideas How to fix
These? Very amateur homeowners
- not good at diy. Please Give it to me in simplest terms. Thanks!!

Necessary to waterproof plywood under toilet?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all,

You’ve probably seen my other posts. Currently working on adding back subfloor under a toilet due to a failed wax ring. Should I waterproof the plywood before laying it back down, if I will have a cement/backer board over it?

I can’t find good info on if I should or what to use. Thanks!

Wood Rot, coming from garden + rain outside. Can HOA be held responsible for damage?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello, First time poster.

I own a townhouse in NJ, and I see wood rot on my first floor. This baseboard + wall sits next to the entrance door, and there is grass + plants behind it. It seems to be entering the wood from the yard behind and making the wall feel moist.

I wanted to understand -

1) What would be a cost-effective way to fix this.

2) Would HOA be responsible for fixing the outside, since its (typically) responsible for exterior issues?

Thank you in advance.

Window won’t open

Maybe I’m being dumb, I’ve just moved and I can’t get this window to open, does it just not open? Has anyone seen a window like this before there’s a latch type thing on the top, if you see in the second picture it’s closed & the third it’s popped up, i assumed this was some locking mechanism but I don’t see anything to push or slide the window to open?

What’s the most expensive home problem that started as something small?

It feels like a lot of home problems start with something easy to ignore — a small leak, weird noise, slow drain, loose seal, little crack — and then suddenly it turns into a much bigger repair.

What’s something you ignored or almost ignored that ended up costing way more than expected?

Really hoping for a quick solution for my 👟shoes.

I just found out I have a job interview coming up immediately (as in, tomorrow), and I'm trying to get myself as prepared as possible in a short amount of time. I'd really appreciate any quick, practical advice on how to make my white shoes actually presentable.

I’m in a bit of a wardrobe crunch. The only shoes I have right now are a pair of white asic sneakers that definitely need some cleaning. if anyone has fast, effective tips for making white shoes look presentable for an interview, I'm all ears. Home remedies, quick fixes, whatever works.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies. I'm trying to pull this together as best I can and could really use the collective wisdom of this sub.

How did the roofer do?

Just had my roof replaced and would love some opinions from roofers or anyone experienced with roofing. Does everything look properly installed, especially the roof intersection/valley area?

The black material at the intersection caught my attention. Is it supposed to be like that?

Weird sound from bedroom wall

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m hearing a weird, rhythmic popping and buzzing sound coming from inside the wall of my second-floor bedroom.

When I put my ear close to the wall, it sounds like the noise travels straight up from the outlet toward the ceiling.

I turned off the breaker, but the sound still continues. I even checked the water meter to see if there was any unusual water usage, but I didn’t notice anything.

Sometimes I can also hear a scratching sound. The noise usually starts around 11 PM and continues until 3–4 AM.

Do you know what is this sound?

Thank you!
