But my homelab is pretty janky.

Gave it one 💩 because it is shit, but could be worse.

Installed a new fan but it was too big, so I also bought a Dremel and made a hole. It is pretty obvious it is my first time using it.

The stack of 3 laptops was my homelab, then I upgraded to this PC. I still use and have all the drives and pis, but I don't really use the laptops anymore. I do plan to build a shelf for this PC and do a little cable management.

For context I’m still living at home and my dad tends to be a tad overprotective so I don’t have access to his network so I got my own, it’s also the reason I can’t get a proper rack or mount the AP properly.

But this is my setup

Networking stuff is so I can keep my stuff separate and learn networking and such, and the optiplex is my home server as of now

The optiplex has 16gb of ram and a 256 nvme + a 2tb SATA HDD for media, I have docker with a bunch of the usual containers like:
Jellyfin
The arr suite
Audiobookshelf
Homeassistant
Nextcloud

Connected HDD Xilence 4 pin to the CPU fan wire with some soldering

Mounted Buck converter with screw to the thingies inside of the flex io module port, used the flex io module hole at back for sata power output

Switch is a 5 port Gigabit UGREEN unmanaged for 8.99€

3 mixed HDDS in a zfs RAIDZ1 pool for 1tb of storage with redundancy

512gb Patriot Burst ssd as boot drive

Under the HDD bay there is a gap which a hole through which the hdd fan also gives additional air to CPU fan

Runs my Websites, Internet Radios, gameservers, and also acts as a Sunshine/Moonlight gaming server (I Luv amd apus)

Almost silent, ive learned to ignore the buck converter whine within the first day of having it running and the Xilence fan is only a silent hum when im next to it. CPU fan barely ramps up, only sometimes while im gaming which I usually dont notice as the server is on the other side of my room (I usually game in bed on my laptop via moonlight)

Ran ethernet from server straight to my bed for the laptop, no noticeable latency thru Moonlight and full gigabit throughput (obviously bottlenecked by things like disk speed, so I rarely get anywhere close to a gigabit practically)

Everything between top Cover and PC itself is with connectors, so Cover can be cleanly removed.

**Dell PowerEdge R730xd - Memory slot B3 not working after power outage**

Hi everyone,

I have a Dell PowerEdge R730xd with 8x 32GB Samsung DDR4 2133MHz LRDIMM ECC (M386A4G40DM0-CPB) for a total of 256GB RAM running Proxmox.

Yesterday I had a sudden power outage (no UPS, I know...) and after reboot I got these errors at POST:

- UEFI0108: One or more memory errors have occurred on memory slot B3

- UEFI005B: Uncorrectable Memory Error, DIMM is not functioning

Here is what I have tried so far:

1. Reseated the DIMM in B3 — same error
2. Swapped the DIMM from B3 into A1 — it worked perfectly, showing 32GB
3. Put a known good DIMM into B3 — still showing the error on B3
4. Cleared the iDRAC SEL logs and rebooted — B3 still disabled by BIOS
5. dmidecode confirms B3 has no Size while all other populated slots show 32GB

Conclusion so far: the DIMM itself is fine, the slot B3 seems dead. Currently running with 7 slots = 224GB.

Before giving up, I found a Reddit post suggesting that debris or bent pins in the CPU2 socket can cause exactly this issue. I haven't checked the CPU2 socket yet.

My questions:

1. Is it worth checking the CPU2 socket for debris/bent pins, I never touched the hardware before the errors?
2. Is there anything else I can try via iDRAC or BIOS to re-enable B3?
3. Any other suggestions before I accept the 32GB loss?

The Raspberry Pi 4 in the black case has a USB SSD connected over the 3.1 port, and the power supply is connected to cannot quite supply enough juice to run the Pi and the SSD and the cooling fan on top of it at the same time... Solution, the fan goes to the Raspberry Pi 3
