Hey, I have installed SimpliSafe and have been very satisfied with it overall actually. The sensors work great and it was easy to set up. I am having one issue where I have a detached garage not far from the house, pretty much almost attached to the house. The house is 2 stories with the first floor, and garage being block, and top floor being wood. The router is on the second floor. I have some cameras out front and in the backyard as well as the outside of the garage. None of the cameras outside of the house would get decent signal, so I was recommended a mesh system. After installing this, with mesh hotspots near all the windows and doors downstairs, I now get good signal to all the cameras except the one on the other side of the garage. I have even tried placing a mesh hotspot outside the garage and inside the garage to try and get the signal there but it’s hit or miss, and inconsistent. The cameras are WiFi only, otherwise I would just try to run a cable out there and call it a day after all this frustration. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on how to get WiFi to reach this camera? Or if this is a SimpliSafe issue, however I did get the signal to reach other cameras with the use of mesh. I think the issue here is that it’s a cinder block garage.

Hi all, have been looking into getting two cameras for my property that will record 24/7. I do like the poe reolink cameras with the nvr but working out too expensive. Would Annke be a good choice? was looking into this one as reasonable enough price wise. Just looking to see if ppl would think they are a decent enough brand to buy from. Thanks 😊

The Situation

A neighbor’s dog left a "deposit" on my front lawn sometime over the last 7 days. The neighbor claims it could have been any stray and is laughing it off because nobody caught them red-handed. It is now a matter of honor.

The deposit blends well into the grass, so spotting static changes at a glance is difficult. The camera’s built-in target/motion detection missed the act (likely due to sensitivity/target size settings or distance).

The Setup & Data

• Camera: Hikvision DS-2CD2387G2P-LSU (8MP Panoramic ColorVu 180°)
• NVR: Hikvision DS-7616NI-K2
• Data: 7 full days of continuous 24/7 video - the poop is in the corner of the video (not visible)

What I’ve Tried

• NVR Smart Search in Hik Central Lite: Either not properly supported with this specific panoramic stream/K-series NVR combo or completely failing to index the event retroactively.
• Manual scrubbing: Scrubbing 168 hours of 8MP panoramic footage at normal speeds is brutal, and high-speed playback makes it easy to miss a 30-second stop by a dog.

What I'm Looking For / Ideas

I am willing to export the footage and process it locally (Docker, scripts, etc.). What is the most efficient way to isolate this event? The patch of grass is more or less isolated - if I can get a movement there (taking into account that e.g. sun is shining etc.) this would be much help!

If anyone has a workflow, script, or toolchain that can parse 7 days of video to catch an event like this, please let me know. Help me bring closure to this neighborhood dispute.

My wife and I recently moved into a house that came with an installed camera system. The cameras are gen IV cameras and I finally got the app working so I can view the cameras on my phone as long as I'm connected to the same network as the system. There are two monitors in the house for the system so we can see the cameras from inside the house but we would like the option to view them on our phones as well.

So my question is do y'all connect your system to the internet for mobile/remote viewing?
I know I've seen clips of people hacking into ring cameras and what not and talking to people or spying on them. Is that a big concern with a system like this as well?
Also do I just need to port forward my NVR system to be able to view the cameras on my phone out of the house? or is there a different way I should do it?

The app I'm using is XMV to view the cameras.

Any advice is appreciated and any other tips are welcome. I am excited for the camera system as I had looked at something similar in our old house and was waiting to install something later.

I recently moved into a house that’s got a wireless security system with mostly motion detectors and window/door sensors. The previous owner, for whatever reason, removed the keypad with a giant hole in the wall where it used to be but left the wireless receiver which is a Napco GEM-RECV 16. I know next to nothing about home security systems so is there any way I can find a compatible keypad to connect to the receiver and keep using the sensors installed around the house? If so, how would I figure out which ones will work with the receiver?

We've recently purchased a home (1900 terraced house in NY). 3 floors and a basement, a roof with a skylight/hatch, a back garden with a single door into the home.

The house hasn't had an alarm system. As part of our home insurance, we will be setting up a system but I don't want to cheap out or buy consumer-ready gear with subscriptions and poor build quality. I want the starting setup to be a first step in building out a more all-encompassing ecosystem that might take longer and more funds to put together. I plan on setting up a home networking system using Unifi products (including a G4 Doorbell Pro - if I ever comes back in stock) so I figure this might work well with home security needs.

I am very much a novice in this area so any advice is much appreciated (and please don't hesitate to simplify if you think necessary - it probably is).

I'm looking for indoor cameras that can be viewed remotely which can be setup/used easily. I don't need footage recording. Are there any options that I can trust to be private? I know vthat viewing it remotely means it has to go through someone's servers, but are there companies that are trusted to keep it secure and private?

For some context, my parents' alarm goes off sometimes when they're not in. So far it's always been a false alarm, but they still worry and will rush back home to check it. They want to have cameras they can view remotely so that they can check if it's a false alarm or not without having to go home. Needs to be easy enough for them to set up and use, and they want to know that nobody else is looking through their cameras.

Recently moved into a Rental home and am overwhelmed with the security system options.

Since it is a rental, I need something that won’t damage walls or the exterior to install. I’d also like to be able to view the history of the cameras if possible, so I think that takes Ring out.

Ideally I want to avoid paying a subscription and will self-monitor, but I do want to have the capability of getting notifications to my phone.

Hey, I have been looking at cameras for my house and have found the process to be tedious and overwhelming so I thought I'd come here and ask for your experience and recommendations.

I am looking for cameras that have

- 24/7 recording

- no subscription

- live feed accessible remotely

I'm not very tech savvy so I am actually not 100% sure if the last one is possible. Ideally I would be able to do most of the controlling and downloading from my phone, but again i'm not actually sure if this is possible.

I was originally looking at eufy but changed my mind after reading some not great feedback about their 24/7 cameras. I am currently looking at Reolink but haven't done enough research just yet to get an idea for if they are any good.

Any help or suggestions is much appreciated.

I have a jewelry safe in my parents' home in Asia.  I have kept some gold, luxury watches, valuables and family heirlooms in that safe.  The safe has a physical key and no electronic key. Only I have access to the key. I keep it with me. I noticed some valuables are missing in the safe. Every time I visit, something is missing - last time a Rolex valued $4500 was missing. I suspect someone has a duplicate key. My parents are too old to reach the safe. It has to be one of the many visitors to home: seven siblings and their families or friends.  How do I find out when someone opens the safe? I can attach a wifi device to the safe door inside that can alert me when the door is opened. Something that has 6 month battery life. Ideally, if there is a device that captures a photo when the door is opened is the best. Or even an alert on my phone will do. I can call my parents and ask them who is at home at that time. Does such a device exist? Any other option you can think of to detect when the door is opened? I don't want a fancy setup like Zigbee. No chime or sound of any kind. Changing the safe lock/key is not an option at this time.

I'm looking for a camera that can sit in a window ledge and look at my parked car across the road, i've had one hit and run (and another hit, but they came back and left details) and several theft attempts, one managed to get into the car and break the ignition.

the window is actually open, but there is a fly screen.

1. I'm looking for cord powered, preferably with a long cord but if it doesn't come with a long cord i'll just use an extension cord.

2. i'd prefer it to record continuously, as I live on a busy street and it will pick up cars and people walking by all the time anyway

3. i live in Australia, so it has to be available here with an Australian style plug

4. i want the ability to view the live feed from the camera, via my phone or computer, preferably both.

5. image quality is paramount, i want to be able to read licence plates if there's another hit and run.

i've been looking at the Reolink E1 Zoom and the Reolink Outdoor Pro, I'm not sure which is better for my needs as while it's sitting in an open window (not screwed down or anything), it's not going to be rained on. I'm mainly trying to figure out which camera has the better image quality, or if there is an alternative i'm unaware of that is better.

the distance from the window to the car is approx 20 metres / 65 feet.

About a year ago I replaced five Google Nest smoke/CO detectors with hardwired First Alert SC5s, in the same locations. The Nests very rarely if ever gave false alarms. The First Alerts frequently give false alarms, which traumatize our dog. l've replaced two of them so far. Does anyone have recommendations for hardwired smoke CO detectors that will have fewer false alarms? I'd prefer a smart alarm set up.

The one I've found that looks most promising is the Gentex SC but there are few reviews of it and it is not a smart alarm.

sorry for the long rant. i'm writing this an hour & 10 after it happened so it still has me nauseous. i have all the genres of anxiety you can imagine so i'm all ears and sat in a quiet room right now. i wish i took a picture because it was SO visible and so weird.

i usually stay up very late and i was in the kitchen/living room playing with my cats & probably gonna get a late snack; just messing around. i have windows beside my front door/porch (without blinds & curtains) so you can see the entire road through them. i saw a car (couldn't see color or type) go by about halfway then it passed through my mind how i didn't hear it fully drive by. i saw them backing up, right in view of my windows, stop, and shine the flashlight towards the windows & ground. they did this for about 5 seconds then continued driving the same direction.

i was standing in front of the windows and froze and i thought at first after it'd happened that maybe they dropped something (why would that make sense, idk). but of course my head went to burglar/murderer/trafficker/all of the above. but after settling down a bit i thought maybe they're looking for a pet? there's no suspicious complaints in my area of anyone doing this or burglaries.

i live in a semi-rural area in northeast georgia. i am around neighborhoods very close by me but i don't live in a neighborhood. what could this be? what could they have been doing? what should I do at 3:30am?

Have a 4k 8mp 30fps lorex system from like 8 years ago it works awesome except its a pain to find past alerts, tried blue iris and something is off with the cameras they keep resetting to private instead of staying in onvif mode.

Thinking of just buying some reolink cameras and nvr, tried a reolink nvr only and it would not connect to cameras at all.

Any scenario i'm missing where I could keep the cameras that still work great and get a better way to see recordings?

Do they make a detachable wire that will go through small holes like from the picture? Trying to avoid making it bigger
