We’re on a few acres, and I waste an embarrassing amount of time walking back for gloves, a bucket, fencing tools or whatever I forgot in the shed.

I don’t need to haul feed or manure with it. Most trips would be one person plus maybe 30 to 40 or maybe 50 lb of small stuff over grass and a mostly flat gravel lane.

I’ve considered a garden cart, an old golf cart and now a cargo e-bike. This ebike is the one that put the last idea in my head because of the long rear cargo area, although I have no clue how that type of bike handles repeated low-speed use on uneven ground.

What do you actually use for the little jobs that feel ridiculous in a truck but get old on foot?

Just wanted to show off my new homestead. 28 acres of peace and quiet! 3 seasonal ponds, 2 barns, and an old home. I’ve been working hard to clean it up and clear it all out. I’m already leasing some of the land to a neighbor with cows. I hope to get bees next year. What do you all think?

We live on Central America about 1250m altitude and sourced all of the clay from the oven site.

Due to damp weather this time of year, curing time for clay was long bit I built some small fires to slowly dry it out.

Pizza was first up!

My husband and I got a quote from an excavator to trench and dig for our frost free hydrant. Our frost line is 36 inches deep. He quoted to dig and trench 36 inches deep. I asked him if we should go deeper considering everything I’ve read says go past the frost line. He said 36” is plenty. Please advise on what to do, he has great reviews but I’m anxious this is not ideal.

My inlaws are on 5 acres. They are adding on to their house so that my family and my sister in laws family can move in. They are charging us utilities only, and I am building a detached shop/gym so that i can have my own space. Total sqft will be around 9kish. We have all lived on the same property before for a few years, but we all had separate homes. This combined house is going to be different for sure. I plan to start a garden, bring my chickens, and eventually raise steer. I also own my own home that I will be putting up for rent. Soo...any advise? Comments? Questions? New to this whole thing. Pasture died on me mid summer, brought it back to life but mamma and baby eating it down faster than it can grow. Releasing them on the yard short term until a neighbors pasture is ready for them.

We bought a house last year on the east coast of Canada. The house belonged to an elderly couple who had a huge garden, and came with this room in the basement that was used as a cold storage room.

There is a vent that goes outside for airflow, but the room smells bad, like a strong basement smell. The door had been closed for a long time though.

Are there steps I should take before putting my canned goods in here? Also since we have really harsh winters around here, can it affect the food I put in here?

So recently I have had some large trees go down and some trees that nees to be cut down. In the past I have taken the logs from these trees to a local guy that has a portable sawmill but unfortunately most of the trees rhatbibhave had to cut down this year are too big for his mill. His will cut up to 26in logs while I have at least 2 trees that are 34 to 36in. I have been researching getting my own mill and will probably order ine in the next few weeks. Now my wife stated that once we are done both our logs for the year what are you going to do with it until we need it again. So that got me thinking of doing what my friend does and having people pay me to mill their logs like he does. He is getting up in his age so not sure how much longer he will be doing it and don't plan to take any business from him. Sorry for the long post. So what is a fair price to charge per board foot of milled lumber.

UPDATE: Starting bid just lowered substantially- now approximately $98k. The seller-financed purchase went into default, and at this point the lender/seller would really just like to see the property sold and move on from the situation.

I’m searching to buy a property in east central MN/NW Wisconsin and it seems like it’s going to take a while. There’s not much for sale in the areas I’m looking, and the few properties I have offered on I just missed out to other buyers.

How long did it take you to find and purchase the right property? What are some ways that can safely speed up the process?

What is your favorite system that you’ve put into your Homestead that makes you feel like it’s more efficient on its own without your consistent involvement?

Most of us have homesteads that make it really has to even get a night away or two, if needed, so I’d love to pull together some ideas that you’ve applied to your homestead that make it just a smidge easier for you to manage.

I am making a seed mat (or whatever its called) for my chickens to graze on.

Im mixing barely, millet and alfalfa. Today i went to a feed store and got 30 lbs of seed, 10 of each. I mixed all 3 together and then noticed pink stuff in it. I don't know which of the 3 seeds it was in.

Friends, I have neglected the veg patch this summer because our orchard was priority and I completely forgot what I planted on this trellis. Does anyone know what I planted please? 🫣
