[ADVICE] Carb float

Does anybody know where I can get a solid OEM carburetor float? I chased my tail for about three months, trying to tune my bike, not realizing that my float had gasoline inside of it, causing all kinds of problems with improper flow height. I’ve gone through two since then and they all have had the same issue where the seals go bad and get gasoline inside of them. I’ve just been buying them off of Amazon, but I need a float that I can depend on and not wake up to my carb spewing gasoline out of event hole.

Drill a tiny hole in it to drain the float, put sealant on it that is resistant to gasoline around the hole and the seams. It will keep it airtight until a proper float can be found. Not adding any weight to it in the meantime is the name of the game

The float I replaced it with after this video is one of the older ones that I did exactly this with lol. I used JB tank weld on the seams it originally leaked through. Maybe I can find a brass float somewhere that’s compatible with my carb. I just don’t want to keep temporarily fixing such a dumb issue

Unfortunately floats will need to be plastic to keep them lightweight. eBay, partzilla and some others will have what you need. Sealant is only temporary. Where the flex seal guy when we need him?

You won't find a solid float. Float is hollow as the word says. They need to float. Modern fuel can affect plastic floats. Just replace with a new one and have a second one on hand as a spare

Don't have an answer. But wow I've never seen or even thought of gas filling the actual float

This might not be your issue, but make sure you're not cleaning the float and gaskets in you carb with carb cleaner. It will absolutely damage them. I learned that the hard way. Carb cleaner completely deformed my float.

Yeah I definitely watch out for harsh chemicals around any plastic or rubber parts. I think the issue is just cheap made parts. They probably use adhesives to put these together that are not rated to hold up against ethanol

Find a buddy who 3d prints. That is if you really need solid floats though. If you just need a replacement float partzilla is great.

It’s from TJ brutal customs, they make a lot for shadows. Unfortunately they don’t make floats lol. Check them out if you’re interested though he makes pretty good quality kits for these bikes
