HFW Discussion How to un-suck melee
Melee sucks. I don’t understand, because it’s obvious that the devs wanted us to use melee more than HZD; there are so many melee things added to HFW: the dedicated skill tree, combos, spear upgrade thru melee pit, elemental capsules, resonator, oseram artificer, quen commander, elite low health melee coil, and elite elements coil. But it still sucks! Has anyone figured out how to un-suck melee?

HZD Discussion Stuck in Horizon Forbidden West at the Blood Choke
I encountered a problem with having Atekka operate the Ballista. Searching the web it was discussed as a bug. After messing around with the lore involved in addressing the problem found a simpler fix. It seems that if Alloy hasn't full examied the area then Atekka will not engage with the Ballista. Complete examination of the area solved the problem

HFW Spoilers The Kulrut
I'm I crazy or has anyone also remembers that Drakka or Jarra from the Desert Clan used to be in the Kulrut as an optional dialog. I know they appear at the final assault at the Memorial Grove (The Wings of the Ten) Quest line, that is not what I'm referring to.

HFW Discussion Talanah Not At Camp Nowhere
I've progressed as far as the base (haven't recovered any of the three AI yet) and then did the first quest with Talanah called The Burning Blooms and it's my understanding that she would be waiting for me at Camp Nowhere afterwards. I did hear dialogue from Zo telling me that Talanah came through the base so I proceeded to Camp Nowhere but Talanah isn't there. Is this a glitch? Or does she only appear at that camp after one of the main quests is completed?
link (Mod) Horizon Forbidden West Mixed Input Fix (Steam Controller/Steam Deck etc.)
https://github.com/brndd/hfw-mixed-input
HZD Remastered had good mixed input (simultaneous mouse+gamepad) support for the Steam Controller/Deck, but Forbidden West unfortunately doesn't, which makes using the touchpad to control the camera feel kind of bad.
I made a mod that patches mixed input support into HFW to make it more comfortable to play with the Steam Controller. It can also be useful if you want gyro aiming and the in-game option doesn't do it for you (map gyro to "Touch Pad Look").
See the readme on GitHub for details, but in brief, there are two modes configurable in the INI:
- SIAPI mode which adds a custom "SteamTouchPad" look input that can be mapped to the controller in the Steam Input settings. This is similar to how HZD Remastered works. This control directly maps to the camera in the game rather than moving the system cursor like mouse mode would. The benefit is that Photo Mode works better and the cursor won't wander to another screen when the game window doesn't trap it (which can happen during cutscenes).
- Raw mouse mode which enables mouse input from the system mouse simultaneously with controller input. This is useful as a fallback and if you for some reason want to use a regular mouse together with a controller.
There's also the option to disable the game's built-in mouse smoothing. The built-in smoothing isn't heavy, but the option is still there for people who would rather control smoothing from the Steam Input interface.
I've bundled controller profiles for all major controllers based on the default profiles (the mod needs custom profiles that have an Action Set for menus), but only Steam Controller and PS4 controller are tested. Feedback and improvements to the other profiles are welcome.
Disclaimer: most of the work, from finding the right offsets to producing the patch, was done by an AI agent. I've done this type of thing before, but it's much faster to let AI do it and I just wanted to play the game.

HZD Discussion The "True" cause of the glitch Spoiler
So, I decided to re-watch HZD logs in partial mourning over the indefinite delay of Horizon 3, but the Maker's End one made me wonder if the "true cause of the glitch" may be surmisable based on context clues!
When confronting Ted, Elizabet of course threatens Ted with revealing the reason for the glitch in the Chariot line. Ted capitulates almost immediately, as the revelation of the truth could take something from him that money cannot buy. Now, he already knew by that point that his reputation would be destroyed for those 15-16 months they had, but people would probably see him as a buffoon that accidentally started a mass-exctinction event due to a random glitch. Something that, while humiliating and hard to forgive, isn't a direct consequence of something he did, this still somewhat preserving his image.
Now the prevailing theory seems to be that it is the fault of VS, but frankly they seem to be treating it as more of an easter-egg more than anything. No. My theory, while simpler, may be the reason as to why Our Earth Is No More. Greed. Faro had a strict (too strict, obviously) policy about not having any back-doors, so I doubt that was what he was trying to do. I think he made a gamble on a new, risky and volatile feature that backfired with him loosing control of them. For Faro to be so against this news coming out, it must have been something so despicable that no one, not even "Liz kids" could ever forgive.
THE biggest problem with the swarm breaking chain-of-command wasn't necessarily that it could choose to do whatever it wanted militarily (but is of course a huge factor, that too) but it's the fact that the it unlocked the inhibitor on consuming *any* bio-mass as fuel. In Ted's bid to make/save more money, what if he was trying to allow the different swarms to feed on anything; not having hard coded rules for what it could and could not consume. If you think about it, eating civilians that died in warfare could serve to lower the amount of manual fuel needed for the robots. In unlocking this, he most likely also unlocked some of their autonomy as well. With him refusing back-doors, he most likely went a bit too loose on the locks, and made it so that they consumed dead, or even non-dead civilians as it pleased.
The swarm most likely didn't have any hard-coded threshold it had to meet to unlock this feature, which allowed it to consume humans like it did any non-living thing. This would explain why he didn't want it to get out, because it would directly implicate Ted and show that the Plague wasn't born out of a random glitch, rather a miscalculated attempt to do something so inhumane, there wouldn't be many trying to defend it. Thing is, I doubt Ted told her explicitly, but he *did* hand her the data, so she would be able to read the logs and see how it started. Seeing as it's more background knowledge than anything vital to how the swarm worked, she wouldn't *need* to tell Harris and the chiefs why it started. If it was something like Vast Silver however, that wouldn't be something that you could just keep to yourself. If VS truly was the cause, they'd most likely have a team searching for, and trying to locate it to bargain.
I also want to add that they said they wanted to have the climate crisis and AI be reasonably written out as a cause to the apocalypse, so turning around and making VS the culprit— an even more obscure entity than the Zeniths we're in ZD, would be illogical on too many levels. It wouldn't characterize any already known character, and would go against what VS had been shown to want to do; connect with humans.
Am I completely off, or might there be something to my theory? And before you say "there's no lore backing for this": there wasn't any for Far Zenith returning, but they did. Not due to something written in the plot, but due to something that would make sense within their characterization. This would add more depth and, frankly, depravity to Ted's characterization... Which is on track with what they did in Forbidden West, where they made Ted even more of a psycho!

discussion Stormbird location to farm
Forbidden West
I found this spot where the Stormbird stops attacking. I don't know why, but it seems to work every time I try it:

Don't go down the mountain to the large area with the Dreadwing. Stay up here at the higher spot, as shown in the image above. If it works for you like it does for me, the Stormbird won't attack you while it's on the ground. If it's in the air, the Stormbird can still use its shock and wind attacks normally. But if you wait long enough, at some point the Stormbird will come down to you, making it an easy kill. :)
Just a heads-up: you need a flying mount to get there.
HZD Discussion Your favorite unique dialogue moment/s?
I'm replaying HZD, and I'm planning to ignore side quests until I become Seeker to get some unique dialogue. I'm planning to do the same with the Carja and wait to do side quests until after I've saved Avad. I was wondering if there are other dialogue changes that happen throughout the game?

HFW Discussion List of weapon techniques that can crit?
It seems that people know which weapon technique can crit. For example, “sustained burst can’t crit, but spread blast can”. Is there a list of weapon techniques that can crit? Or is there a tooltip hidden somewhere in-game that you can see if it crits?
HFW Discussion Thunderjaw and Slaughterspine were based on the T-Rex and the Spinosaurus respectively, I wonder which prehistoric predator will be the blueprint for the third game's brand new heavyweight combat machine
I would like to see something like a hybrid, based on numerous predators. Adept at aerial, naval and land combat both, maybe. The ultimate combat machine, Hephaestus' (who probably evolved and grew more capable as a result of exposure to Zenith tech) final masterpiece

HZD Discussion I feel like playing through HZD again. Is the €10 upgrade worth it?
It's been YEARS since I have played this game, but even when I first played it, the game had been out for a while. I first played it when I got my PS5. Even then, I already thought the game looked really good. I saw there was a Remaster upgrade for €10 on Steam.
Looking at it, I do think it looks good, but I don't know how much was actually changed because it's been so long since I played, so I don't know what's "remastered" and what isn't. Might just be my brain tricking me into thinking it changed a lot when really, it didn't, and that's just how the game always looked (classic case of "I always thought the game looked like this" lol).
So, do you guys think the upgrade was big enough to warrant the €10 pricetag? Or am I not missing much just playing the original?
EDIT: After all the replies, I decided that it sounds like it'll be worth it so I bought it. Currently downloading. Thanks guys!

HZD Discussion "Game Progress" on my PS5 is stuck at 91% for Zero Dawn Remastered. Is that a known bug?
I've got all of the trophies, have 100% completion according to the in-game Notebook, and have completed the New Game+ twice, but on the PS5 operating system my progress has been stuck at 91%, IIRC since I beat the story the first time. I'm "only" at 98% for The Frozen Wilds, but none of my progress there made the PS5's "Game Progress" go up.
I did play the PS4 version for a few hours before buying the PS5 upgrade, so I thought that maybe that was the issue, but starting a new save and re-playing the prologue didn't fix it (though it did unlock the missing trophies). Loading and saving my 100% save didn't do anything either.
So, yeah, if anyone happens to know a fix for this, I would appreciate it. I know it's just a cosmetic thing, but it's annoying to have it stuck at 'nearly complete' after three playthroughs.

HFW Discussion Lost after finishing the main quest (FW)
I just finished the Burning Shores and I just had to do it in two sessions because the story kept me so intrigued!
I'm only 65 hours in but feel like there's not much I can do at that point, even though I have so many open side quests, errands, Vista points, drones, ruins,... But nothing feels relevant enough to do after finishing the main quest and I'm also overwhelmed with where to start.
I absolutely adore the game and I want to further invest in my weapons and armor, but I don't have a good reason to get better equipment anymore. I also don't need skill points for a while now, so leveling does nothing.
I have had the same problem in other games that I love (like the Whitcher 3), but I refuse to put the game down after just 65 hours.
What are hidden gems in the game? What kept you occupied after the MQ?
I would love some perspective

HFW Discussion Two things I recently discovered
The first is that Aloy can dodge roll her way through tripwires without taking damage if timed correctly. The second is that the staircase leading to the rappel above the A.I. chamber in the base has handholds for Aloy's pull caster so you don't have to walk the entire perimeter just to get the two chests underneath the stairs

HFW Video I keep getting aggressively cuddled after taking out machines. Am I playing the game wrong? Spoiler
youtube.comThis is one example (video is sped up x4 and then x16 until I make my way out), and then here's another example where it's sped up 10x, but I forgot to save the video of me getting out.
Is this something that just happens?! Both times this happened within about 2 hours of gameplay.
