Anyone in California specifically in the 559 area get any update from Fresno's local 100? I hear there's lots of work but haven't heard when they'd be taking in apprentices.

I was accepted to my local IBEW 602 inside wireman with a score of 95 and put at #75 on the list. I’m in the Texas Panhandle and we’ve got a couple big data center projects in the area. I was curious if anyone had any similar experience and how long it took them to get a call or if I just need to sit down shut up and play the waiting game now. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I’m a 17 year old high schooler from Texas planning on moving to pursue my career as a electrician. Local 112 had my highest interest, I’ve already had a summers worth and still working during school at a company that works with the union. My question is how competitive is 112 and is it a smarter choose to apply in Washington or transfer to it later in my apprenticeship?

Im aware that aptitude testing has begun this week and the following week, im scheduled for last day of next week because i feel that i need as much studying as i can get. Ive seen that the GAN study guide is very similar to the test given, Im currently studying back and fourth on GAN and Iprep. anything to be aware of? has the testing changed in anyway? I know you’re timed, does it show you how much time you have left on a question? &good luck to everyone testing!!

I took the GAN for local 11 today, I’m not sure how good I feel about it. The math, numerical patterns and paper folding were incredibly easy, if you purchased the practice test then the actual gan has easier questions on that.

The reading comprehension was a bit annoying. In The practice questions, you could find the exact phrase which was the answer in the text. On the actual test, many answers were either summarized or interpreted from the text, and there were many “how would you summarize this text” questions that basically asked you to understand the point of the passage, but contained several answers that would technically work. I think I did okay on that but it’s hard to know.

The mechanical reasoning was most annoying. The whole section was plagued with shitty drawings that made the answer difficult for me to understand. I don’t want to get into specifics for fear of revealing test material, but there were some, like one that contained a side view of a worm gear that asked you to determine rotation, that just didn’t provide enough information for you to answer appropriately.

So if you’re studying, be ready for some outliers in those sections, the practice test questions are WAY easier than the actual test on those.

Hey yall, I applied to local 369 and in the info they sent out about the aptitude test says we'll be tested on problem solving as well as the math and reading.. the other times I took the aptitude test ( I failed like twice before, smh) I dont remember having problem solving being on it or has it just been so long I cant remember?

I have been looking into applying to join an apprenticeship with the Union out of Austin in 2027. My only snag is the timing in which I should apply.

From what I understand, and I could be completely wrong about this. But classes typically begin in January or in September. And once you start, you can have time off from a contractor if you get placed with one, but missing any classes is a no go.

I have 2 weeks in June that I absolutely have to have off (Wedding/honeymoon already booked). So my question is, should I look to start applying around March/April to try and get in for the September classes? Or am I able to apply sooner and just inform them about not being able to start anything until after June next year?

Any advise/thoughts would be appreciated.

I applied to local 617 in around June/August of 2025 and was told id get a response by this August. its basically September of 2026 and havent recieved a response. I saw either here or the other sub reddit but someone from the same local said he got accepted about a month ago via a letter in the mail, and was wondering when I would get a response, either saying i got in or not. I was also told by the folk there at the local that its sort of a waiting game, how i need to wait for a response instead of calling or reaching out to them, anyone with experience or from Local 617 please lmk.

Anyone hear back from Local 302 in Martinez after interviews yet?

I have been waiting to submit my application to the ibew 124 for a couple months. They open back up September 1st and I heard its open at midnight so I planned to stay up to get it done early. I tried submitting before they were open and it gave me a clarification email. It didnt charge me anything but said it was still open and incomplete but on the site itself it says the status is open and that it is completed. Does anyone know if i will still be able to apply or if itll be open to start it when it officially opens back up?

Great book has a lot of info mostly for the ibew but offers more info on finding the right apprenticeship programs.

hello, looking to apply as a groundman at the ibew in michigan, local 17 to get some experience on a line crew until the lineman apprenticeship applications open up. curious, what’s the pay for a line crew groundman?

The Houston chapter has a test tomorrow morning and there haven't been emails or calls about cancellations due to weather. Mostly asking because school districts and businesses are closing. If anyone knows, I'll appreciate the insight. I already called the JATC and no answer. I'll send an email hoping they answer first thing.

I am a recent college graduate looking for a solid career and a little bit of a change of pace from what I was originally considering. I have no experience in the trade but have some buddies that are IBEW apprentices in the local 26 and have heard great things. I’ve been very eager to get started ASAP and originally applied to Local 26 in February. I took the aptitude test, and unfortunately wasn’t accepted. However, I believe I did very well on my aptitude test and I want another shot. Local 26 utilizes the third party GAN HR company for their testing and member selection and doesn’t have an interview portion of the process (which is something I was looking forward to as a way to stand out).

Ive been considering the local 24 (Baltimore) recently and put an application in for the inside wireman apprenticeship as well as the CW program which seems like a decent route, albeit with lower pay, which would allow me to get experience on union jobs and strengthen my resume for the inside wireman program. I haven’t heard anything from them yet and it’s been about three weeks.

Does anyone have experience With the CW program with local 26 or anything else similar? I was told that the selection heavily depends on demand so I’m expecting at least a moderate wait time but don’t want to

I called the hall and the woman told me that they haven’t announced anything for telecom yet and that they should by the end of august… Today is the last day😭😭😭I even asked her if it’ll go into September and she doubled down and said the end of august. No choice but to wait at least until the end of the day but, idk what else to do on my end.

For those who have studied/already passed their aptitude tests will the exam include electrical math equations too or will it just be simple middle school math?? I’m using ChatGPT because someone recommended me to use to study basic algebra before practicing with iprep and these types of questions started appearing after a couple lessons..(?)

I finished the application process for local 354's teledata program a few months ago and ranked 13. I'm at 9 now and honestly it's pretty hard to be patient with the process. I'm a temp right now and I'm kind of desperate to find something that's more steady.
