Axel axis help!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
So, this was my second ever session of axel attempts! Most of my attempts looked something like this, where i’d land more or less rotated, but on the wrong foot with my legs crossed. I think it’s an issue with my axis, any tips for how to fix it?
Last time i tried axel with my coach, i fell and slammed my head on the ice 😭 Probably going to try a harness next time, but that fall was also a result of a bad axis.

The angle makes it hard to tell but I think your extension behind is pulling you into the circle and forcing you to jump along the same path vs going outside the circle.
Small exercise to test. do everything and then step into the checked position. Where are you going? is anything off balance?
If should look like you step outside the circle and are now traveling semi perpendicular to it in the checked position.
I like how you are already rotating and have your legs crossed. Just odd entrance.

Before you go into the jump, I don’t usually do the extension you’re doing, my free foot is tucked already. It seems like that extension is taking you on a heavier curve. I would ask your coach about this and get feedback from them during your lesson. Your left shoulder needs to stay infront from the entry till you transfer your weight. Your arms need to brush through. Your free leg in the entry needs to be closer to your skating leg and your free leg needs to be bent at a 90 degree. You will need your coach to demonstrate and correct you while holding that entry. Also, right before the jump, you have to do a one foot calf raise to give you some height.
