I swear those girls are popular everywhere but Mexico because I see them mentioned more by foreigners than nationals.

This is basically what their song Narcisista is about.

They're super talented but must come from a wealthy background because 10 years ago when nobody had heard of them they were always shoehorned in local festivals as an opener.

I dont think their parents were particularly rich, but from what weve seen of their house they definitely live comfortably. That said, pretty much all their gigs come through their manager who seems to be pretty good at pulling strings. They have a pretty modest core team, basically running the band like the family business.

One of?!

The only thing comparable I have ever seen is BYU's LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah

19

u/Hammeredyou Jun 16 '26

Okay but we can’t give byu props. They’d sell the mountains to the church if they could

El Paso's is awesome because it's built into the mountainside

3

u/wrongbutt_longbutt Jun 16 '26

Not on a pro or even college level, but Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington has an ampitheater built into the side of a hill, with an open end to commencement bay. Alongside the high school itself which is a conversion of a 19th century luxury hotel. It was also used as the set for the 90s rom-com Ten Things I Hate About You.

6

u/Guy_with_Numbers Jun 16 '26

What about the Dharamsala Cricket stadium, with a backdrop of the Himalayas?

4

u/Critical-Bug4077 Jun 16 '26

UTEP has a beaut as well

3

u/Wonky_bumface Jun 16 '26

Henningsvær Stadium isn't exactly on the same scale, but certainly gives it a run for its money!

I feel like these measures of beauty are way less about the stadiums themselves and more about the natural beauty that they are taking up space in front of.

2

u/Ace_Wumbologist Jun 16 '26

More reason to go to Mexico. I can't justify going to a game in the US or Canada, especially when they're denying players, teams, referees, etc. from entering their country. Like, maybe you shouldn't have hosted if you won't allow the world cup in your country lol

2

u/eamus_catuli_ Jun 16 '26

I’d be so disappointed sitting on the other side of the stadium.

Mexico has nice stadiums even the Mexico City one is huge and quite impressive.

73

u/revestocha Jun 16 '26

The ‘Mexico city stadium’ is the Azteca, one of the most famous football grounds in history, and a host of two World Cup finals. A gargantuan 100,000 seater back in the day.

35

u/Cpt_O Jun 16 '26

Both Pele and Maradona won the World Cup there. I don’t think any other stadium can ever have that kind of history.

22

u/nietzsche_niche Jun 16 '26

Thank god they gave the final to that soulless fuckhole stadium in new jersey. Azteca not getting a single quarter final or later match is awful

Oh wow. That's gorgeous.

14

u/GothikWitch Jun 16 '26

This is probably the first stadium I’ve seen where I’d also have to be glancing outside because it’s just too beautiful not too

3

u/dgfinancialz Jun 19 '26

Empower Field at Mile High (Denver Broncos) - sit upper deck on the east side to look west at the Rockies. I missed at least half that game. It was late-November, mid-afternoon, and absolutely beautiful.

45

u/Natrixster80 Jun 15 '26

anyone else see a big camouflaged octopus as the mountains?

8

u/Just_Application6137 Jun 15 '26

Lol i immediately spotted that as well

beautiful stadium. I am very disappointed the final for the World Cup wont be played in Mexico. Such a waste of good stadiums

13

u/kayrsone Jun 15 '26

Underrated isnt a strong enough word for this picture

4

u/PraetorOjoalvirus Jun 16 '26

It's also not the correct word. Check out a dictionary.

12

u/DGiff52 Jun 16 '26

Just landed back home after flying to Monterrey to see their first World Cup match, for this exact reason. Seeing a match at this stadium has been a bucket list item for a decade and it was well worth it. The local people and soccer fans were as beautiful as the stadium. An all around lifetime experience!

3

u/951frisky_dingo Jun 16 '26

How expensive was it? I’m considering going but not during World Cup. Dm me if you don’t want to answer here

3

u/DGiff52 Jun 16 '26

The Tunisia v Sweden World Cup match was pretty expensive, but that's a FIFA thing. It was about $450 USD equivalent for decent but not great seats. I don't think a normal match would be expensive.

The city itself is very affordable relative to most other North American cities. Bars and restaurants are incredibly reasonable, and the hotels are cheap. And the people of Monterrey are super cool. I'm definitely going back sooner than later.

u/Coinsworthy Jun 15 '26

Wow, and also extremely distracting.

7

u/blackredsilvergold Jun 16 '26

I wanna go there so bad. Been to Monterrey 3 times but never to the stadium.

10

u/Truhmpza_Cuhnt Jun 15 '26

Nailed it. Jesus.

5

u/Wormsworth__ Jun 16 '26

Phrasing!

3

u/Unit_79 Jun 16 '26

Nailed it, Jesus!

3

u/SenorVilla Jun 16 '26

Nailed it: Jesus.

2

u/psychonautvoyager Jun 16 '26

What’s the difference between Jesus and a picture of Jesus?
-You only need one nail to hang the picture.

4

u/EncryptDN Jun 16 '26

Monterrey is a wonderful city. Great food and lots of adventuring to be had in the mountains.

2

u/beekeeper1981 Jun 16 '26

2

Come on.... you got the Jersey swamp!!!!

2

u/Ifuqaround Jun 16 '26

This is one of the only stadiums where I wouldn't want to pay for a seat closer to the action.

Good seats.

2

u/ComprehensiveBat9219 Jun 16 '26

Packed! Have a look at my shitty USA stadiums. We are deservedly hated.

2

u/MaintenanceNo899 Jun 16 '26

Wow the beauty!!!

u/OdinsGhost31 Jun 16 '26

That is bomb as fuck

2

u/Wise_Argument_9124 Jun 16 '26

Absolutely gorgeous stadium!

2

u/KLH_21 Jun 16 '26

Wow! Stunning ❣️

2

u/finalcut Jun 16 '26

okay, thats even cooler than the stadium at University of Texas at El Paso (which, to this point, was the coolest stadium I've ever seen).

→ More replies (2)

2

u/DesperateEagle4505 Jun 16 '26

I'm sure it looks worse if you're looking at the mountains on the outside and see the stadium

2

u/DarksideDino Jun 16 '26

I’m not sure I could watch the game with a view like that. Beautiful!

2

u/AlbiteTwins Jun 16 '26

When you think of Brownsville, TX or South Padre Island you probably think mountains are impossibly far away but this is just a 3.5 hour drive (not counting customs).

It's interesting how political borders affect perception of physical geography.

2

u/No-Astronomer-6808 Jun 16 '26

breathtaking doesn't do it justice, just wow.

2

u/Entire_Business_4498 Jun 16 '26

I’m Canadian and have been to Monterrey 3 times!

2

u/jjmoney917 Jun 16 '26

2

u/FjordFjesta Jun 16 '26

2

u/TiberiumBolognese Jun 16 '26

Looks like the Quidditch world cup.

2

u/Common-Ad1509 Jun 16 '26

That ain’t basic 🔥

2

u/Any-Injury459 Jun 16 '26

Monterrey is a gorgeous city in general 🤩

2

u/Yoked_seal_3 Jun 16 '26

Daaayummm , beautiful😍

2

u/marcoskirsch Jun 16 '26

That’s mountain is iconic “Cerro de la Silla”, only closer and seen from an angle different than its most recognizable. The stadium is truly beautiful; yet I miss its much smaller predecessor Estadio Tecnológico from where you could see the same mountain only further but at the “right” angle… so many memories.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:ITESM_Estadio_Tecnologico.jpg

2

u/seniorfrito Jun 16 '26

I know everyone is really into futbol right now, but this just makes me think of a Harry Potter Quidditch stadium.

2

u/GameFuse_11 Jun 16 '26

The dream of every gully footballer 😍

2

u/MoneyPresentation610 Jun 17 '26

From that high up, looks like a Quidditch match is about to happen.

2

u/Albsoon Jun 17 '26

🔥🔥🔥

2

u/Boobs76 Jun 17 '26

It’s only just better than the view from the Trent End 😜

2

u/soyboy815 Jun 17 '26

Some Rocket League shit right there

2

u/essuxs Jun 17 '26

Could put more seats on those mountains
