The Falcon was sitting on her eggs. Probably didn't want a fight at that moment.

true that instincts were likely to protect the eggs, but to describe a falcon/pigeon encounter as a 'fight' is generous haha

I have a peregrine nest across from me, and a large local pigeon population, and man are they fun to watch hunt. also see a lot of pigeon wings laying around haha. apparently the peregrines will tear off the wings and bring the meaty parts back to the nest

Raptors are ruthless. We had a bald eagle couple living next to a lake my parents used to live by, and they would prey on Canadian geese as they flew south for the winter when they landed on the lake. One morning the lake was partially frozen, and there was blood all over part of the ice, and there was an eagle standing over the decapitated corpse of a goose. Pretty shocking to see as a 10 year old, but also fuck geese.

The thing is that peregrines kill on the wing. They usually drop from above and hit a flying pigeon at such speeds that the impact from their claws kills pretty much instantly.

I'm not sure it even knows how to go about killing a pigeon standing right next to it. It's not used to dealing with anything struggling. It seems to go straight to trying to pulling the pigeons feathers off.
