But you have to understand that snakes are afraid of humans (except maybe anacondas and a few pythons that can see us as potential food). So this snake is basically shitting himself right now. The hood of cobras and king cobras are literally a sign that tells other animals "leave me alone or I'll bite you". The snake wants safety, it wants shelter.
That's when the bag and the pipe come into play. It is a shelter. Honestly if the guy had simply put the bag down the snake might have come in even quicker than that. The idea that the bag might be a way for another animal to carry you somewhere else is a concept completely foreign to animals that are not used to humans, and even then it's still hard to comprehend.
So no it's not particularly dumb here.
But one thing to consider is that king cobras are the top of the food chain (except cats). They eat other snakes including true cobras (hence the name "king"). It it came here that means that there are other snakes in or near this house. And if those snakes came here that means that there is also probably a rodent infestation.
