The implosion of the Titan submarine (OceanGate) was so rapid that the pain wasn't even registered by the brain. They didn't feel anything at all. Utterly instantaneous.

Atleast the implosion made the death instant, I couldn't imagine if the ship just lost power and drifted on the bottom of the ocean in absolute darkness.

My co-workers bought into the line that 'They're still alive, but trapped at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean,' as if that were a better outcome than the much more likely instant death scenario.

They thought I was the pessimistic one.

It did in fact do this for about 40 minutes. They lost thrusters and even after dropping ballast (including the landing skids) they were still not buoyant.
