The implosion of the Titan submarine (OceanGate) was so rapid that the pain wasn't even registered by the brain. They didn't feel anything at all. Utterly instantaneous.

Pretty much everyone involved expected it to be a salvage mission, not a rescue mission. But there was the chance that the sub was merely disabled or stuck rather than imploded so basic sense tells you that if there’s a chance it’s a time sensitive situation then you should operate as if it definitely was.
