I have a friend that just started this today and plans to be done by the month. about 10-15 miles a day.

That math does not math. The AT is currently 2189 miles long. (It can change in official length year over year)

It has been done in 40 days, the current fastest known time, but 31 days? That would be extreme. On the ink you have to click the Southbound tab to see Tara Dower, the current holder, it defaults to Northbound.
