Training to be an astronaut at the height of your boyband fame is the most random plot twist of the 2000s.

Did he though? This has got to be a publicity stunt unless you mean to tell me NASA invested millions into tracing Lance Bass.

Iirc, he spent like $20M to go to space with the Russians. Don't remember if he actually went.

Cosmonaut. Go home karma bot.

Neither, really. He would have been a paying tourist, not a working astronaut/cosmonaut.

Cause you and I will be like a couple of cosmonauts
Except with way more gravity than when we started off

Moot distinction. He also trained with NASA at the Johnson Space Center

Back in the day, if you wanted to pay to to go space you could pay the Russians. Today you can pay Bezos.
Katy Perry is not an Astronaut, and neither is Lance Bass.

NASA used to award astronaut pins to the first commercial astronauts, then the FAA created a commercial astronaut category in 2004, then they scrapped it all in 2022, so now they're just plain old space tourists.

Lance Bass Space Camp! from the sitcom Single Parents. Here's a clip with the earworm theme song several times! - https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1956354888355352

I can't possibly think of anyone else more deserving. To imagine the amount of time and dedication they've invested in their education and scientific career is astonishing.

"Bass, who was a member of the pop group NSYNC, had spent months in training with Russia in 2002 for a mission to the International Space Station (ISS). His $20 million seat aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft was purchased through Dutch-based space tourism company MirCorp anr > bankrolled by a documentary. But th. documentary's insurance company backed out just weeks before launch, and Bass lost his seat aboard the Soyuz."

So you know full well what the actual story was, and still chose a bullshit clickbait title.

Why is Astronaut instead of cosmonaut "bullshit" or "clickbait"? I accept it's the wrong country, but it's the same training and role.

u/FluffyNerve7415 15h ago
This is the equivalent of calling yourself a pilot because you bought a ticket on spirit airlines, and listing the safety briefing to about your seat belt and oxygen mask as "training". Astronaut is a professional distinction, it is not a description of anyone who reaches a specific altitudes.

I feel the same way, but technically NASA used to award astronaut pins to the first commercial astronauts, then the FAA created a commercial astronaut category in 2004, then they scrapped it all in 2022, so now they're just plain old space tourists.

Would have been a great chance to sing Bye Bye Bye as he takes off from Earth.

Maybe that's the real message behind Bye Bye Bye, they're going bye bye bye out of this world.
