I actually love them, they’re super comfy.. but they do sort of look like the inside of someone. Plus they’re an awkward shape & size, so I haven’t had much luck with covers. I’m wondering if anyone has ideas on ways I could enhance their coolness and possibly make them look less like a GI tract?

A friend suggested making a hand chrocheted throw but it would be quite chunky I reckon, plus the awkward shape means blankets don’t have grip and immediately slide off

Did I make a mistake? Before and after. I had a bunch of places that needed patched and filled so I got rid of the accent wall and painted it to match the rest of the room.

Longtime lurker here. I stumbled across this space on twitter and immediately thought of this sub. It's a bit tongue in cheek because I realize the height ceilings and gorgeous view are what's making this so magical.

What I appreciate most is that they kept the sofa and cushions brown, when it would be so tempting (for North Americans) to keep adding more and more colour. Hopefully this inspires a few people out there like it did for me.

Context: our family of four lives in a 1200 square foot townhome. My husband has a hobby where he paints miniatures. The lower floor of our townhouse is composed of two rooms: kitchen/dining room and "living room" (tv, lounge and also my husband's work space/hobby space). A few years back I suggested to my husband that he should have a dedicated space for his hobby in the living room so he could sit down and paint whenever he wanted. Over the past year or two, he's pretty much ceased painting regularly and has just accumulated stuff in this corner of our living room space. I brought up the idea of organizing this space. Possibly putting things up into the attic and he just gaslights me and tells me I'm being unreasonable. I'm a neat and tidy, Virgo and every little corner of this desk is covered with dust and grime and he doesn't want anyone to get near it or touch anything so I can't even help clean it. There are dust piles around on the things on the ground and I've seen silverfish darting in and out and it's just driving me crazy.... It's been literally years. Should I just ignore it?

I’m moving into a home and am struggling with my guest bedroom. I was aiming to go for cool toned blue walls with dark red (brick red, burgundy, etc) accents for a moody take on traditional design. We painted our room in Farrow & Ball paint with Kittiwake on the walls and Kakelugn on the ceiling and above the picture rail. We got our bed delivered today and I immediately knew it was a miss, so now I’m trying to figure out if I should totally pivot from the red and try something different, or try to get the right shade of red.

I attached a photo of the “before” of my room, along with the current state with the bed inside of it. As you can see, the bed almost looks orange, not the deep red I was going for. Unfortunately, this is the darkest red the bed manufacturer has, so I can’t swap the color of this specific bed.

Should I look for another darker red bed and push forward? Should I consider a completely different color scheme? Should I look for a dark wood bed?

At this point, the wall color and the carpet are not changing. We are planning a larger renovation in 4-5 years time, so major changes to the room like adding paneling or changing the trim aren’t on my to-do list now, as we may have to move some walls around or rewire the house. I am really only looking for advice on what to do about furniture.

Open to anyone’s ideas on this because I think I just need a perspective from someone with fresh eyes.

Edit to add: I may not actually return the bed - I have another room that is painted green (Vert de Terre from F&B and I think it will be better suited for that room)

I used to have an 8x10 rug but the couches are exactly 8x10 so it felt too small. I decided to go up to the next standard size (9x12), but for some reason it looks off to me--is it just me, or is it too big? Or does it need to be moved a bit?

EDIT to add: for those recommending I move the couches off the wall, these photos were taken in 0.5 scale so the relative scale of everything in the room is a bit deceptive. I might have a few inches to spare for the wall by the window but the room is too small to move the loveseat off the shorter wall (we've tried). The photo scale is also why everything seems collected into one corner I think. Anyway I think I'll try moving the rug further under the couches as several suggested, any maybe moving the long couch a bit off the wall. Thanks all!

I bought the Arhaus sumner couch in Quincy flax (pic of swatch included). You can see my living room mocked up with the couch. I need to pick the rug so I can choose coffee table, accent chairs, etc.

I want to redecorate my small bedroom so it feels cozy, intentional, and less cluttered/dated.

The loft bed has to stay, including my workspace/vanity underneath it, and I’m keeping the existing layout, AC, ceiling fan, window, and flooring.

I’m thinking warm cream, muted sage, and warm wood, possibly with some wall moulding or wood slat panels. I’m also open to replacing/removing the small vanity on the other side and adding floating shelves for books, perfumes, and decor instead.

Any ideas on how you’d decorate the room without making such a small space feel even smaller?

Hi Reddit! I live by myself in my small apartment, and this room is driving me nuts. The main thing I’m trying to solve is my shoes. I have no real space for a shoe rack, so I usually hide them underneath the couch.

Second thing is this couch I hate. The apartment came furnished, so I can’t really replace it. It’s upsetting because I feel that it’s incredibly uncomfortable for guests.

Any tips on how I can improve this space?

What else can I do with my bookshelf? I'm thinking some sort of baskets in the bottom empty area, and maybe flowers where the large glass vase is?

I’m considering a dark accent wall behind a larger wall-mounted TV. The current white lowboard will be replaced; there is already too much white in the room for my taste.

I tested the green sample next to the TV (“Toskana” by Schöner Wohnen), but I am not convinced it is the right direction.

I want this south-facing room to feel warm and cozy, especially at night. I plan to add a solid wood table and chairs later.

1. Would a dark TV accent wall work here, or would it feel too heavy? What colour direction would fit?
2. What colour should the remaining walls and ceiling be?
3. What colour/material should the lowboard be: warm wood, dark wood, or something else?

As you can see my coffee table is too big so I cant put it in front. Ive put it to the side and I like how it looks but do I need to layer a second rug so the coffee table can be fully on top of a rug. Or should I just pull the rug out more?

we do not want a couch here but was thinking 4 chairs (maybe swivel)with a coffee table in the middle. all in front of the wooden fireplace.

we have a sitting room already and we have a playroom for the kids too. So really I think this will be nice for the winter time For being by the fire.

we really just use this for now for the kids parties

any suggestions and mock ups would be great we were also thinking maybe putting this table over by the cushion bench area maybe? Or no?

I have recently started painting the downstairs of my house, and loved the way that Saybrook Sage looks in my dining room (photo 1) and I decided to paint an adjacent bedroom (photo 3) in Providence Blue, and I am still deciding a greige-y lighter color (Edgecomb Gray or Grant Beige) for the living room.

Should I keep the original trim color (Pale Almond) in photo 1, or should I paint all of the trim in White Dove, which you can see in photos 2 and 3? I like how the original trim softened everything, but was searching for a creamy white that would keep that softness but work well with other walls colors.

I’m renovating a house right now and I’m thinking about using glass blocks for an interior wall/partition, but I keep changing my mind about it.

Sometimes I see photos where they look sooo good and I’m immediately like yes, I want that. They can look really beautiful and interesting, especially with the light coming through.

But then I’ll see another interior with glass blocks and suddenly they look really dated or kind of cheap 😅 And I honestly can’t figure out what makes such a big difference.

So I’m curious if anyone here actually has them in their house, especially as an interior wall or room divider.

Do you still like them? Would you do it again?

And if anyone has photos of their own space, I’d really love to see them! I’ve seen a million Pinterest photos at this point, but I’d much rather see what they look like in normal, lived-in homes.

Also, if you have any idea what makes them look good vs. bad, please tell me because I clearly can’t figure it out 😂 Maybe it’s the type of block, the grout, the size of the wall, what’s around it… I don’t know.

I really love the idea but I’m also scared I’ll put up the wall and then realize I chose the ugly version of glass blocks lol.

I posted here a few days ago about painting this staircase a berry/plum colour, but I wasn’t completely convinced. It felt a little dark and the rooms directly off the landing are also going to be quite a strong reddish/pink tone.

So I thought I’d try green instead as I already use green as an accent elsewhere in the house.
I’ve sampled two options: a lighter green I already had, and the darker olive green I picked up today. I’m currently leaning towards the darker olive - what does everyone think?

Ideally I’d paint the whole staircase/joinery rather than just the steps. I’m still undecided about whether the upstairs landing should be green too or stay the same colour as the walls.

We may carpet it eventually, but not for a while as this isn’t our main staircase.

Please help me make this area more cosy. I’ve added what it looks like now as well as a potential mock up. I would like this area to be a moody, cosy corner. I’m a bit stuck on what kind of curtains would go with my current idea. Open to any and all recommendations either building on what I have or something completely different.

I’m struggling to find a rug that would go with this couch. Does anyone have any recommendations for what rug and colour palette I should go for? I was thinking of going to a cream rug with details and a round oak coffee table

I put a photo of what I currently have and how it will be utilized. I just really don’t like how it looks like a dresser. I was thinking maybe some sort of sideboard with an extendable table , but that barely exists as it is and I really want something oak/wood. Also might put my monitor into the closet or something when I’m not working cause I hate how it looks near the TV…. Also was thinking some sort of executive/computer desk? With a foldable chair?

Here is a view of the living area as seen from the dining area. The room is going to be repainted and the ceiling fan replaced with a sputnik light fixture. It's not a large area and I'm trying to figure best how to arrange it. From the archway to the wall straight ahead is just under 10 feet. The room is 12 feet across. The ceiling fan is about 6 feet from the wall straight ahead so it is not center in the room. I have a 7 foot long tv console I planning for the archway wall. Should I go with a sofa across with a table in the back corner and maybe a chair facing the window straight ahead sort of in the transition space between living and dinning? Should I go with a sectional in that back corner? The house was built in 1952 and I'm looking for more mid century inspired.

I used (mostly) local original art I have. I think the spacing is off but I don’t think that’s it’s noticeable.
