Love to see it, guy like me looking to get himself into a project for no reason. Turns out this boy actually works and is LOADED with music and movies!

All the boy wanted was a little FireWire and a wipe down. I still have a battery and flash mod kit on order for him but it is very charming to scroll through somebody’s iPod that they THOROUGHLY loved.

I guess all of this to say take a chance on a purchase every now and then. As is or for parts does not mean they actually put any amount of effort into verifying the device. This guy was $66.50, I am paying more for a replacement battery and flash mod kit.

I recently decided to get back into using my iPods after seeing growing interest online and the plethora of mods and firmware which have sprung up.

I already had the G6.5 and G5.5 but I had been longing for a G3 which was my first iPod. Thankfully I was able to find a new in box 15GB which included all the accessories.

The first two iPods were still in great working order so there was no need to replace the battery or swap out the HDD just yet.

The battery on the G3 has aged out of being useful so I am swapping it for an 850mAh battery and putting in a 128GB SD to make it useful. I’m waiting on the iflash card to arrive so I can take out the stock 15GB drive.

I made a custom playlist of AIFF music files which I have synced to each iPod allowing me to easily compare their headphone outputs with the same music.

so happy with how these turned out. left one is a 6th gen with 7th gen firmware and 512gb and right is 256gb 5.5 gen

this model was given away by radio stations but was never sold. definitely one of the coolest ipods i’ve come across 📱

Listening to music is sometimes the only way I can grind through a set of drawings. Not sure why it makes me so much more productive. Can’t listen to music and write emails though, only drawing.
Got a “for parts/repair” used iPod 2nd gen classic a couple weeks ago, and it was not only working fine, it was loaded with thousands of jazz songs. I made those into their own playlist, and now I can just hit shuffle on that playlist and let it run while I work. Feels really comforting for some reason, and I almost never hear the same song twice.

I honestly didn’t expect this much interest when I released the first alpha of musicOS. Seeing people download it, try it on their own iPods, share feedback and suggest improvements has been incredibly motivating.
So, thank you to everyone who has tested musicOS so far — and especially to those who took the time to report issues, share ideas or simply leave a nice comment. It really means a lot!

I’ve also put together a small roadmap to give you an idea of where I’d like to take musicOS next.
Work on v0.2.0 has already started, with a big focus on improving the Quick Screen. I’m currently working on dynamic actions and labels, so the custom Quick Screen can better adapt to each user’s configuration, alongside some stability improvements and general UI refinements.
After that, I’d like to focus more on the Now Playing screen, metadata, customization, language support, Dark Mode, and broader device compatibility.
The roadmap isn’t set in stone, so things may change, move around or be added along the way — especially based on your feedback.

So to start. It’s a 7th gen, flash mod, new battery. New case. That’s all.

Now over the course of a week or 2, 4 or 5 times the sync works exactly like it should, then for whatever reason I plug it in again to add some music and the sync just spins forever and I’ve noticed when I plug it in, the “manually manage music etc” box is ticked. And the “sync music onto iPod” becomes unchecked. If I recheck the “sync music onto iPod” box I am greeted with the a pop up that says “are you sure you want to remove existing music from this iPod and sync with this library”

Then it removes everything and takes ages to add all my music all over again.

It’s almost like my computer and iPod forget that they are already using the same library. Has anyone ran into this?

Also it’s a 2012 Mac mini running Catalina and 10.15.7 and Apple Music version 1.0.6.10

Everytime I try to open iTunes with this plugged in, it immediately crashes. Whenever I try to boot it up normally, it displays the file icon and goes back to sleep.

That being said — it says it “passed” the HDRW test.

Is it safe to just say the drive is dead and get a new one?

I have this iPod that I haven't used in years, and I've been wanting to use it again.

Issue is that it is currently disabled and requires me to use iTunes to unlock it. Unfortunately, that doesnt work since iTunes needs me to put in the passcode first which I cannot do since it is disabled. I know I could restore it, though I'd like to keep any existing data on there.

Is there any way I can get onto the iPod without erasing any existing data?

Finally got my iPod Classic 6G working perfectly again.

Replaced the battery, installed Rockbox just to see what it can do, played Doom on it, experimented with themes and plugins... and eventually decided that Apple's original firmware still has a certain magic that Rockbox can't quite replicate.

And yes, I found an iPod Hi-Fi to go with it. This thing is ridiculously fun to use in 2026.

There's something strangely satisfying about using a 2000s iPod exactly as it was intended, especially with the click wheel and the physical dock.

I was able to download the iPod classic games onto my iPod but a few games don’t work. These games are Monopoly, Peggle,Tetris, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, and Trivia Pursuit. My question is do I need to redo the process from the IPod Clickwheel Games Preservation Project so I could get these games to work? If not what do I do to fix this issue?

I found a 5th gen for C$48 OBO on Facebook Marketplace, it's scratched up and dirty (though some IPA could help with that, and I could get a replacement front panel), is this a good deal to go through with, or should I try and go lower?

Hello everyone. I was wondering if you'd be able to tell me how you access the SMART menu to view how many hours my iPod has been ran for, as I've seen lots of posts on the sub-redditbbit I've never tried looking at it. Is the counter reset when a restore is done (since mine is secondhand) or does it account for its entire lifespan?

Hey, this was my first time opening up an ipod classic 6 and I wanted to play around to get familiar with the hardwares. As I go along, I notice the below.

First image and 2nd image: I connected the iPod to the HDD without the battery installed and plugged in the cable. It shows “Charging, please wait.”

When battery and HDD is connected to the iPod: The iPod starts blinking the Apple logo repeatedly but doesn’t boot up.

Just FYI, I bought this iPod in faulty condition, so I’m here seeking advice from all the iPod experts. 😅

Do you think this is a faulty HDD or a battery issue? Is there anything else I should check to identify the problem?

I'll start off this post by saying that this isn't the first time I've had this problem. You can probably search through my post history to find the first post I made about this issue a few months back.

Basically, there are certain songs in my library that will stop before the end and skip to the next song. All of the affected songs have been purchased and downloaded in iTunes. Also, each song skips in the same spot every time I try playing it. The problem is with the file itself. It happens both on my iPod, in iTunes on my PC, and it happens when I play the file in the windows music app (always gives a generic error when it reaches the problematic part of the song like "something went wrong").

To fix the issue, I just deleted the song on my computer and redownloaded it in iTunes, and the issue went away. But it's very annoying to do this every time, because every few weeks, I discover that a different song has the same exact issue. It also screws up all the playlists the song is in when I have to redownload it.

Has anyone found a different solution to this problem? Is there any program I can use to scan all the files in my library so I can be sure that none of them are screwed up? I'm getting really tired of this happening
