Mod Post - Just report the spam (not the mixed breeds or sad posts)

I am the only mod here and not very active on Reddit these days. The best way to bring something to my attention is to report it and I get a push notification. We are not the only sub dealing with bot t-shirt posts and I remove and ban them as they are reported. I am one person. With a whole adult life. The young Jack Russell I had when I started this will be FIFTEEN this year. I built this from nothing but maybe it's time to pass it on because I'm sick of the whining from the small amount of keyboard warriors here. On the whole it has been a pleasure to build this community with you

ISO Moderators!

Hey there terrier fans,

It is high time that I ask for some help in moderating. On the whole the sub runs very smoothly but I'm just not as engaged with reddit as I was 11 years ago when I created this space!

Please send a mod mail with a brief bio and any other mod experience you have. Time zone info would be great as well.

Pic of 14 year old Lyra for attention, doing what terriers do so well!

My little Jack (Cashew) was playing fetch the other day and his paw came up bloody. After cleaning and inspecting it looks like his nail (on the right) is cracked. Anyone else have this happen also and does anyone have advice to help keep him active but not hurt himself further?

Training Tips How do JRT learn tricks?

Post image

Ziggy is 3 years old and she knows how to sit only. She also understands what I mean when I say ā€œbring the ballā€ ā€œcome hereā€ ā€œlet’s goā€ and understands if she’s unleashed she is only permitted to be in an area nearby me, good girl overall. I do, however, want to teach her fun tricks like roll, give her paw, or anything that also can enrich her mentally. I’ve tried making her do the spin and she does it without a treat but then loses interest. I think that’s the ā€œissueā€, she gets distracted quickly and starts jumping when she just wants the treat. I’d appreciate any ideas, tips and tricks. Ty!

Lost my dog of 12 years not that long ago. I still think about him every single day. He had so many health issues, I know it was the right decision but I can’t help but feel guilty. I love you Oscar. Hope you’re in a better place.

Misc Familiarize a puppy with a house cat

I just welcomed Poppy, a 3 months old female JRT. She will spend (with us) extended periods of time @ my inlaws, who have an adult house cat (female). Setting is rural and the cat roams at will (while we still keep the puppy on close surveillance).

At this point, they've had scant interaction, and it's not on friendliest side: the cat looks suspiciously and swipes her paw if Poppy gets too close; the dog is curious but (tries to) growl at the cat.

Any tips on how to improve the chances they'll get along?

Misc Info about jrt racing?

Post image
108 Upvotes

This is my little guy Colby Jack! Don’t let the picture fool you, he LOVES to run. We have a big backyard that he runs around in a lot, but he never wears out (even though that’s the case with all jacks lol) I wanted to know any info about jrt racing. I’ve heard about it a decent amount through Instagram and had some questions. Is it ethical? Do they allow mix breeds? Is there an age minimum? I think it would be a great activity for him, but I don’t ever want to put him into something that isn’t good for him.

Extra info: he is 2 years old and a jrt-corgi mix.

She is eleven weeks old. She is so precious, and I am growing more fond of her every single day.

She is a happy and friendly little pup, and she would love to meet other dogs, but until she gets her shots next week we have to wait a bit before going to the dog park.

She says HI to everyone here.

Asking for Advice My JRT tore her ACL, and I’m overwhelmed by what comes next

My JRT (10 years old) just tore her ACL, and we’re deciding between surgery or non-surgical rehab. In both scenarios, the next few months sound so devastating. And once that’s done, there’s a high chance the other could tear as well.

She is not food motivated at all… I’ve tried Kong balls, snuffle mats, everything you can think of, she doesn’t want it. She only wants to chase animals and play fetch. She’s also not the dog that knows she’s in pain and therefore shouldn’t run or jump - she will try. The idea of keeping her in a crate or confined space sounds so cruel and upsetting. I feel like I’d be putting her in jail and she won’t even know why. She’s not super old for a JRT, but it seems like this recovery could be something she’s doing for a good chunk of the rest of her life?

And at the same time, and I feel so guilty saying this - I’m overwhelmed for myself too. The money, of course. I work full time and can’t always be home. When I am home, I’d have to watch her 24/7 to make sure she doesn’t try to get on the couch or go down/up the stairs. And leash walks only vs using her dog door.

But I’d do anything for her. I’m just mostly so upset I’ll have to restrict her from all of her favorite things, and I know she’s going to be depressed.

šŸ˜” I just wanted to get it off my chest and see if anyone had any words of wisdom
