Question about Resolution/Frame Rate Refresh Whitelist

I'm hoping I came to the right place for this question as there seems to be conflicting answers I'm getting in another community. I'm running Kodi 21.3 on a Nvidia Shield. In settings, Display, General my resolution is 3840x2160 and the refresh rate is 59.94Hz. If I want to watch a movie that is native 1920x1080p 23.98Hz and my TV supports it, I have to have 1920x1080p 23.98Hz checked off in the Whitelist correct? If I don't have it checked off it'll default to 3840x2160p 58.94Hz and try to upscale. Is this correct also? I'm being told to leave everything unmarked in the Whitelist and Kodi will automatically change the resolution and refresh rate.

There's the Kodi interface, best at 1080p a few skins support 4k. The player is independent and plays according to the video resolution, 1080p plays & sends out the signal at 1080p, what your TV does with it depends on that hardware. Ditto for 4K

I appreciate the response, but the link you sent is 7 years old, outdated and it doesn't answer my question. Upscaling content is the least of my worries. My concern is motion judder by not using the correct refresh rate. It's my understanding if I play a 24Hz film regardless of resolution and I don't have 24Hz enabled in the Whitelist, Kodi will default to 59.940Hz. Is this correct? Playing a 24Hz film at 59.940Hz will still play, but my TV will use the 3:2 pulldown and it will cause motion judder on slow pan scenes. My TV supports 24Hz, so I want to know if 24Hz needs to be enabled in the Whitelist for the TV to receive the native refresh rate and avoid the 3:2 pulldown issue?

Lol! No offense, but you're confusing the hell out of me. Your previous post told me that Kodi will do everything automatically and I disagreed. Now you're providing me a link that says do exactly what I thought needed to be done?

I don't think I suggested in this thread that Kodi does everything automatically. Just informing you the interface res is separate from the player. Support on the linked site is good, and if you followed the advice in that link everything should be Jake. So are you stuttering...?

My understanding is this;

Frame Rate matching = Good

Resolution matching = Unnecessary

(especially if you want upscaling from the device and/or the TV)

So, what I do is this;

Whitelist (only) 4K resolutions + Frame rates that the tv supports

(which (for me) means all Frame Rates @4K) This way, any video file played, gets matched to its native frame rate, and played and/or upscaled in 4K

Then set/enable allow frame rate matching to start/finish ,or Always (users choice) Though I do start finish so the UI is moother due to the higher RR, when it reverts

and set the wait to 2.5 second
