Prevailing market conditions for a small mill with super thin operating margins and under an extremely tight leash of new corporate management. Word going around in the industry.

Skook turned a profit last quarter, which is more than can be said for almost any other mill on the continent.

There are two separate operations with different owners along the river. A sawmill (Interfor) and a pulpmill (Mercer). If the noise that bothers you the most is not there on weekends, then the source is likely the sawmill. If it is there 24x7, then it is the pulpmill.

Yeah ive always been told its the pulpmill. They have all kinds of sawblade whirring rolling howling noises at all hours. I can hear it in every recording I make if im outside, even at 3 am.

It'll be quiet but property values in castlegar will probably take a hit. Town of that size with 300 high paying jobs lost overnight. Not to mention all the contractors and the hit to local economy...
