Thank you Kraków, an appreciation post.
Dzień dobry!
I hope I'm not in the wrong subreddit, and I apologize for any incorrect spelling. I'm still trying to learn your language.
This post is simply to show my appreciation for Kraków, and mainly for its food. It's completely subjective and only meant to show some love.
I'm a Swede with a Polish girlfriend of five years. We both live in Sweden, but her mother lives in Kraków.
On my first visit last Christmas, I honestly don't know what I did wrong, because I couldn't really handle the food. The meat was too smoked for my taste at the few places we went to. I'll easily admit that the problem was probably on my end. Either I ordered the wrong things for my personal taste, or, more likely, I was just way too nervous about meeting her mother for the first time.
I did really like the Żurek, and secondly the Barszcz she made, but the rest wasn't really my favorite.
So when we came back for a week this year, I was slightly worried. This time, however, we planned our days much better.
I am an extremely picky eater, and I genuinely don't think I've ever had seven days in a row where every single meal was as good as this.
The first day, her mother's Rosół completely put my own to shame.
The second day, we had burgers at ORZO, and they were incredible. That chleb was insane, and I absolutely loved the happy hour.
The third day, we drove to Iwonicz for reasons, and had some fantastic ribs.
On the fourth day, we went to Mazi, and honestly, every single dish blew our minds.
Then we went to the oyster bar and had a fantastic mixed grill platter.
I could go on, but I'm sure you get the gist.
Kraków was an amazing place to visit for so many reasons, but the food genuinely surprised me. As a very picky eater, I went from being slightly worried about eating in Poland to wondering why I hadn't discovered all of this sooner.
And the best part? The quality of the food compared with the prices was just incredible. So many meals that I would expect to cost significantly more in Sweden were extremely reasonably priced.
So, Kraków, dziękuję. ❤️
You've definitely won me over, and I'm already looking forward to coming back.
