Plasma desktop missing
Did a reboot, and got booted into Ubuntu instead of Kubuntu. Is there a way to restart plasma desktop and have it load automatically after reboot?

When i scroll anywhere with my touchpad, it feels like scrolling with the mouse wheel, skipping two centimeter of the page no matter how less i slide my finger on the pad.
Smooth scrolling is ig the setting name to solve this issue (?) but i could not find any related option to fix this.

Hi all, I recently made the switch to Linux not long ago, and have chosen kubuntu on my main desktop. I'm currently dealing with a complex issue that the internet can't seem to help me with. When I try to log in, I'm met with a "no signal" prompt from my monitor. After giving it about 10 minutes, nothing changes. I decided to try accessing the BIOS and GRUB menu to mess around there and have since learned that I cannot access either of those. I decided to try the terminal, hoping I could do something from there, but apparently my login details are incorrect when trying to access the terminal. This is incredibly frustrating and I am out of options. The only thing I can think of is a complete reinstall... But I can't access my BIOS! Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Hello,
I had installed Signal Desktop as a snap. But I wasn't able to send a vocal message or a camera chat. So I have just installed the flatpak version, and remove the snap, and now it work sell (sure, I had check the option to use micro and camera in Signal).
Someone know why snap didn't works?
Thanks

I'm not sure why, but this package hadn't been installed automatically when I installed LibreOffice via apt. For Kubuntu 26.04, at least, it's libreoffice-kf6. It might be libreoffice-kf5 for older versions.
I was torturing myself with the GTK3 UI, which has the world's thinnest scrollbar imaginable. Now the UI looks like it belongs in a KDE system. And thanks to Klassy, I can have my big-ass scrollbars.
Edit: The problem was of my own creation, as I apparently removed LibreOffice months ago in favor of its flatpak version (which I imported from another distro; longer story in one of my replies, if you're interested). Still, when I reinstalled LO via apt, this package didn't get installed, I had to install it specifically. So, still somewhat relevant.

After a failed mint install (resolution issue) I tried kubuntu and dear lord. Compared to Windows 11 (ive used ms products/windows the last 30 years) its like stepping into the future.
Im blown away!

I am currently using KDE 24.04, and it feels like can taste the fraying of the code. I am experiencing many small issues that will likely disappear with the big Plasma update as well as some big problems with Firefox's stability that would also likely disappear. So I am ready for the upgrade.
https://www.kubuntu.org/download/ helpfully provides guide for upgrading Kubuntu from 22.04 to 24.04 (many thanks to whom wrote that guide), but the guide for 26.04 is only mentioned as "Coming soon…". Is that correct? What is the status of the 26.04 general public release? Could one just follow the 'to 24.04' upgrade guide to upgrade to 26.04, and is that currently advised? Has there been some delay and are 'casual users' like myself advised to wait a bit longer?

Hello, I've just installed Kubuntu 26.04.1 in full AMD setup (Ryzen 7 5700G + RX 6600) but I figured out both the Boot Splash Screen and the Splash Screen arent showing, tried to setup them manually in settings but it doesn't work, checked /etc/default/grub and nothing anormal, I tried seeking help with Gemini but it just gives me commands to change to X11 but that ends screwing everything, any help would be appreciated.

Hei folks,
So I've recentlyy switch to Kubuntu 26.04 KDE Plasma and and I want to keep desktop effects .. specifically wobblywindowsEnabled & translucencyEnabled permanently off.
Now I've tried unchecking them from Desktp Effects section but each time a new plasma session is created (ex: computer restarts), the two desktop effects are back on.
I've also tried setting them off via kwriteconfig6 --file kwinrc --group Plugins --key [effect] false but this also does not seem to have any permanent effect on them.
I'm thinking next of doing a script which is run at session login which will disable them, but this seems a bit hacky for what should already be simple toggle.
Is my instance of KDE borked in some strange way or is this a general bug within KDE Plasma 6.6.6 ?

I think I will be sticking with Kubuntu for now. It seems a bit more stable than Arch. For example, coming out of hybernation, I no longer need to do a hard reboot if my Firefox tabs go over a certain length (though that might be a hardware issue). So far, so good.

Due to financial circumstances, I had to sell my beast of a machine so we could pay bills. Right now, RAM, SSDs, and GPUs are going for good prices because of the chip shortage, and I like to eat, but that's not the point here. The point is I had to fall back on an older mini PC I had in the closet, you know, the cheap little boxes people buy to run as media servers or basic internet browsers.
Well, after much deliberation, I installed Kubuntu on it because I wanted something decently modern but also low on resource usage and more likely to just work on a mini PC. I saw that Kubuntu actually sells mini PCs with their distro in it, and I figured, okay, they're familiar with mini PCs, so this should work okay.
Well, suffice to say, Kubuntu is running on this mini PC with a buttery smoothness that exceeded my expectations.
I miss my beast, but what I have now will for for the immediate and mid-term future. Let's just hope prices eventually come back down!
Anyhoo, thanks Kubuntu devs, for making such a flexible, powerful distro that just works!

Kubuntu latest 26.04 LTS version works great on 15 years old MacbookAir from 2011. Everything worked out of the box. No suspend failure. Hardware (bluetooth, wifi, keyboard backlight) and sensors (ambient light sensor) work without any issues. I am stunned with the performance. Even high resolution Youtube videos (1080p and above) play without stutter or lag. Yet I didn't change or lower any desktop animations in KDE.

Ubuntu has ARM64 desktop support on its 26.10 snapshots (images).
So the question is, is there any focus on Kubuntu team to follow Ubuntu's path and adding support for ARM64 on its images too? (please)

Okay so I just got kubuntu

And on again
I have a rx7600 (the 200hz monitor is attached to it)
An r55600g (the 60hz one is running with its integrated graphics)(and yes integrated graphics are on in bios)
16gb ddr4
Nvme ssd
Ps
I really liked kubuntu the workflow the gaming exp and how evrything just "worked"

I want to start by saying I have used some flavor of Linux off and on for a very long time but I don't have an understanding of the OS like I do Windows. I mostly fix issues by follwoing directions someone else wrote, not fully understanding what I am doing.
I have recently installed Kubuntu 26.04 on an old laptop that I am using to stream Steam to my TV. I am having issues with my XBox contollers randomly disconnecting. They will disconnect then usually reconnect again shortly. If I am playing multiplayer games, these disconnects will usually make them switch from player 1 to player 2 or the other way around.
After trying multiple things (xpadneo, disabling WiFi and some power bluetooth power settings), I ended up buying a TPLink UB500 Plus bluetooth adapter but the issue is still there. I saw multiple people saying that downgrading to an older version of the RTL8761bu drivesr fixed their issue but their directions to do so were for Fadora. My drivers are RTL: fw version 0xdfc6d922 and they suggested 0x09a98a6b. Could anyone help me downgrade to that version and keep Kubuntu from updating them back to the current version?
A second question I have, has anyone tried one of the XBox One adapters with Linux? This way I could just bypass bluetooth all together. Does it work and are there any issues with using it if it does?

In my experience, interim editions of Kubuntu perform well. I have previously installed and used Kubuntu 25.10 for 9 months. It has given me a trouble-free experience. Now installed Kubuntu 26.10 snapshot on my laptop, it is also good.
