My 13 month old unaltered female is allergic to chicken, this I know. I avoid anything with feathers. The only puppy food I could find that was chicken-free was also grain-free, which she ate from 4 mos to about 10 mos. She did okay on that but she was just so thin that I looked for more calories and ended up switching to a beef based all stages food. After about 80 lbs of it, she pooped more than I have ever seen any dog poop, and poop recently started getting green and a little slimy. I have been cooking venison and rice for a few days for a gut reset and need to transition back to kibble for nutrients' sake. What's crazy, is I thought I was going to have to get her glands expressed, but as soon as I stopped feeding her the kibble, the stink stopped. Anyhow, thoughts on LID, that includes grains (preferred over legumes) and that should be easy on her gut during transition and going forward? (I know how to phase the diet over the transition of about 10 days, so no need to go into that with me, unless you have something new to offer.)

My 10yo boy was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late June incidentally during a routine exam. It seemed to be a pretty early diagnosis and with it coming as a surprise (he didn’t have any symptoms) my initial plan was to be very aggressive with the treatment.

We started with 4 weeks of radiation treatment which is what the oncologists thought would be the best treatment. He finished it but it was rough for him at times with vomit and diarrhea and by the end of you could tell he was tired of even being in the hospital. The last week it was a struggle to even get him to go back, but since we were so close to the end I wanted him to just finish it.

Due to it being an aggressive cancer the doctors are now suggesting chemotherapy as well, but I’m at the point throughout this journey that I’m not sure it really is the best thing for either of us. He’s my first dog and my soul dog. He’s been with me through some very tough times in my life and part of me wants to keep going with the treatments, yet another part of me is saying the pros do not outweigh the cons anymore. The reasons are: 1. Financial. I already spent over 15k and exhausted his insurance with all the testing and the radiation. Now they’re quoting me 5-6k for the chemo (plus testing that he’ll need) and I just don’t know if I can do that anymore. 2. His tolerance. I know he’s going to absolutely hate having to even go into the hospital for treatment, and I’m nervous about any side effects (they tell me that the chances of side effects are low but with how badly things were with the radiation at times, I’m afraid he’ll be in the small percentage to have strong side effects). Lastly, I’ve gotten conflicting numbers on the prognosis. The radiation oncologist said that with treatment he could have up to 18 months, while the chemo oncologist says 6-9 (of which 4 of those he would be undergoing chemotherapy)

My question is - has anyone else’s lab been diagnosed with prostate cancer or undergone chemotherapy? If so, could you give me your experience?

Any advice on what to decide would also be appreciated. I’m just so afraid of regretting whatever decision I make.

We lost our lab mix Sully on June 19 and it still feels like part of me died as well. He was young, he had only turned 6 on March 16th. He'd been totally fine and then there was no saving him. They think he had a stomach mass that just burst. Sully was gentle and funny and calm and wise and silly and just so many other things. He was found with his siblings and their young, feral mom when he was around 2 days old.

My husband (boyfriend at the time) and I got him at 6 weeks old during covid lockdowns and he just completely changed our lives. I worked at a doggy daycare and used him for temperament testing with dogs because of how easy going he was. Almost any dog that couldn't play with others loved Sully. He just had that affect on them. I swear he was meant to be a therapy dog with the way he would gravitate toward people and animals who needed extra help. When I became pregnant and developed hypertension suddenly, he did everything he could to alert us before it happened, and he probably saved me and my son because of that.

He wasn't just gentle though. He loved to back talk and yell at my coworkers in order to bully them into giving him treats. He could play fetch until his legs gave out and loved a good water hose, but was terrified of swimming. He loved running in front of me just to toot and leave. He was afraid of pinwheels and bikes and cardboard boxes, and had uncontrollable bloodlust over balloons.

He had such an impact on our lives. He helped "approve" of my engagement ring before I ever knew about it. He was in our wedding. We got our first house just so he could have a nice yard. He helped with our pregnancy announcement. From the moment we brought our son home, Sully treated him like he was his baby, constantly checking on him and protecting him from raspberries or being held too high in the air. We even named our son after him. I hope Sully knew that somehow. Sully was our first son. He was our best friend. He was mine and my baby's protector. He had such wise eyes. He was so full of life and love. He was such a bright shining light in our lives and the lives of those he met, and I just wish that light could have burned longer. I wish I could have watched him grow old. I wish he could have watched his baby grow up. I wish his baby could grow up remembering him.

Benny, my 7 (almost 8!) yo lab mix had a large mass removed from his side yesterday along with a teeth cleaning and one extraction for a very fractured tooth. We were planning to do another extraction, but he was already under for over 5 hours. He’s been home for about 19 hours and has been non stop whining and unable to sleep. Would love to hear others stories & help us both cheer up ❤️

3 years today Sarge crossed the rainbow bridge. We will honor him by taking his k9 brother and sister to the lake for a swim and tennis ball retrieving.

He got to ride on a golf cart and a ferry, and run around on the beach (with a long leash). He even managed to do about 75% of the cliff walk in Newport. The only thing he didn't like is the actual ocean, but he did dip his paws in to test the waters

I was a bit frustrated, sitting stuck in traffic until I looked at the next car.

I’ve just taken a job that is going to move me from DC to SF and part of the relo package is pet relo. I just lost my old girl two weeks ago and have a fear of losing my big guy (4yo male blab). He also is in mourning and has become extra clingy.

How do you fly with a large dog not in the cargo hold? Can I buy him a ticket? I thought I remember hearing about an airlines that flies dogs but wasn’t sure if that was in the US. Other option is a 42 hour car ride which ngl sounds like a blast but hard for me to take that much time off a new job.

Any suggestions would be welcomed!
